UPDATED! How to Enjoy Local Play with Custom Mutators

Overview

This guide serves as a tutorial for Local Players in playing their local matches with custom mutators.

New Update!

The amazing modding community has updated most of their mods and mutators to the latest Unreal Engine update, and you are now able to use mutators in Local Play again.

Revisions to the guide have been made to avoid confusion.

Preface

Before this guide shows you the tutorial, I would like to give my thanks to Steam user Snakeyio for showing me the method in applying custom mutators for Local Play.

Here’s a preface:
-Steps with lettering after its number are optional steps (ex. Step 1a)
-As of writing this guide, the only way to apply custom mutators is not user-friendly, so aside from the optional steps, you MUST follow the tutorial step-by-step or you will not get the intended result.

Step 1

To apply custom mutators in a local play match, you need to ensure that you have downloaded your mutators from the ‘Mods’ option in the main menu, and clicking on the ‘Subscribed’ tab.

I will be using the mutators ‘More Ammo’ and ‘Fire Support Mutators’ as an example for this guide.

Step 2

Start a Local Play match in any map, in any gamemode.

The map Crossing, and gamemode Checkpoint Security will be used as an example.

After loading in your selected map, bring up the game’s developer console by pressing the Tilde button on your keyboard (~).
(For those who don’t know where it is located, it is below the ‘Esc’ key and above the ‘Tab’ key).

Once you see the developer console at the bottom of your screen, type this command:

travel Farmhouse?Scenario=Scenario_Farmhouse_Checkpoint_Security?game=Checkpoint?mutators=MoreAmmo,InfiniteFireSupport

You must write the lines after ?mutators= as the mutator names that you have chosen to be applied to your game.

IMPORTANT: The map used to first load in the game through the developer console HAS TO BE Farmhouse, I have tried other maps and different gamemodes, and the mutators wouldn’t load.

Step 3

If you have typed the command correctly, the game should now load a Farmhouse map with the gamemode Checkpoint Security.

The mutators should show up in the “Game Message” screen, indicating that your selected mutators have loaded.
You should be able to see the effects of the mutators immediately applied upon spawning in.
Since I selected the mutators More Ammo and Infinite Fire Support, I should be able to see that my ammo count and fire support charges have been overriden.

REVISION 7/11/2020: After loading new mutators in the Farmhouse map, the mutators are now “saved” into the local game, so it is no longer necessary to load the Farmhouse map each time you come back to load the previous custom mutators in the local game.

Step 4a

(This step is optional)

Now that you have loaded in your mutators, you are now able to play your local match with custom mutators.

Keep in mind that after doing the “travel” command, the mutators that were selected for the match are now saved, and you can switch maps by doing the same “travel” command.

For example, if I want to switch to a Crossing map with the same mutators, I would type in:

travel Canyon?Scenario=Scenario_Crossing_Checkpoint_Security?game=Checkpoint?mutators=MoreAmmo,InfiniteFireSupport

Closing Notes

And that concludes this tutorial!

I hope you find this guide informative and helped you with custom mutators in Local Play, as it took me a week of googling and community forum questions in order to get this method done.

Once again, I would like to thank Steam user Snakeyio for providing me the method for this in the Forums. Without their help, this guide would not be possible.

If you have any constructive criticism and thoughts you would like to share, please put them in the comments. I will try to read your comments.
(Please go easy on the critics this is my very first guide on Steam.)

Thank you for reading this guide, and happy fragging!
