Overview
You want to have fun in Coop? You need realism? Well this guide will help you with that!
The Introduction
“In Sandistan, there’s been a bit of conflict over the last 9 years. Not because of territory disputes, not because someone stole a bucket.[en.wikipedia.org] It’s because of terrorism. In the urban area of Precinct in South Alrishi, the insurgency group known as The People’s Militia has garrisoned itself. They don’t know, however, that members of the 75th Ranger Regiment of the United States Army, the US Marine Raider Regiment, and the US Navy SEAL Team 2 & 4 are about to do a full-scale attack on the town.”
Insurgency: Sandstorm Co-op is the main part of Sandstorm; and sometimes it gets boring. People have been calling it a dead game because of its usual 1,000-2,000 average player count. Most people don’t know some tactics that could be lifesaving. And that’s why I’m here, making this guide. To show you some tactics and how to have fun.
PART 1: FUN
P1 Section 1: The Invasion (and story)
In the introduction, you probably saw that little story I made, as well as the image. That’s one way to have fun; make a story of why you and your team is there in the first place—yes, liberating a country with oil counts—and maybe even make a briefing. (Precinct is the best place to brief your squad, as there’s a tent right next to spawn)
Map can be opened in 2 ways:
| by pressing Tab, which also shows the player count, |
| and pressing , to open up the mini-map. |
Opening the map will show you the map, obviously, and your objectives that you need to do. Useful for learning where to go.
If you brief your team, plan ahead. For more info about that, see the tactics part of this guide.
P1 Section 2: Role? Play it.
Roleplay. It’s optional, but it adds to immersion. Intimidate the enemy using proximity radio. Call out enemy contact(s) on the radio. If you see an RPG, yell “RPG” in prox. because cinematic cliche. Don’t destroy techies (see 1.7.1 changelog in August) and instead take them. Heck, even go gunner and suppress enemies with an M249 if you’re security. Also, when you hear the brrt from the A-10 after an autocannon strafe, chuckle in prox. or yell “F**K YEAH” in proximity.
P1 Section 3: Story Loadouts
When you make your story, there’s nothing better than a touch of realism. Say, for example, you’re going Breacher, but you’re part of DEVGRU in your story. Take an MP7. DEVGRU and other JSOC breachers sometimes use MP7s. Say you’re members of the SAS. Breachers take MP5SD5s (MP5A5 with suppressor). Also, if you’re a specops team or a western force, use the Specops voice in the customization feature in the main menu. If you’re the local forces, use the default voice. Stealth is an option at night. Go stealth at night if you’re a Tier 1 special forces team. Get down if you see an enemy. Drop them if they get too close. Don’t forget to take tactics from the real world.
P1 Section 4: Other Loadouts and _____ Only
Well well well, here we go to another way to have fun: loadouts and ______ only.
Wanna go marksman? Want to still go CQB? Take an M82 with a holo sight.
Want to go breacher but MP7s aren’t good enough? Shotguns with flechettes are your heroes.
Now, there’s a whole lot of other weapons to try. TRY OTHER WEAPONS AND THEIR ATTACHMENTS AND SEE WHICH ONES ARE FUN FOR YOU.
If you’re wondering about the ____ only things, here’s an idea: Insurgents Welrods only, Mosins only, or AKMs only. Security, how about cursed weapons onl-
I regret saying that immediately.

PART 2: TACTICS GALORE
As a general note, here’s something that you need to know if you’re new to this game:
P2 Section 1: Breaching, Breaching!
Alright. You’re going to the next objective. You’re alone. Nobody’s near you, and there’s a door blocking your path. Without thinking, you kick down the door and get shot from a googolplex[en.wikipedia.org] directions. And then you die.
So, what can you do to solve that? Have multiple people around you to breach- at least a battle buddy or 2. When you kick down the door, don’t sprint into it. Kick it from the side, then throw a flashbang. Start clearing the room after the bang. If you have a breacher with a shotgun with you, tell him to shoot the hinges, then throw the flash. This will be a life-saver.
If you’re the last one remaining, shoot the hinges, then throw a grenade, preferably a flash. If you have a frag, throw it right after the flash. Then clear the lucky survivors.
C4 is another way to breach, but it has backblast unlike other video games and the rocket launchers in this game. That means once you plant the C4, get away from the door. (Default planting button is RMB.) You can also breach with IEDs, but you can’t put them on objects like C4.
P2 Section 2: Running In The 90’s
Don’t be afraid to live the little gun life; it says that in the loading screen tips, mind you! Watch your weight, and if you are overweight, plan about your weight problem. If you want to be deadly but supersonic, go breacher. Take nothing but an SMG and a mask, and maybe a light carrier.
Being lighter than a feather can save your life, and also risk it.
P2 Section 3: Masks and Spacing (+PSA)
Consider the title the PSA.
Anyways, always take a gas mask with you during the day time. Night it’s optional, but don’t blind your team with a light. Grenades can be deadly or damaging up to 6 meters away, so whenever possible, stay 6 meters away from each other. This excludes breaching, capturing an objective, and going CQB.
Also on the topic of nades, you can lay on a grenade to save teammates. This will do way less damage to others, but will kill you. If you want to get the Medal of Honor, do it.
P2 Section 4: G E T D O W N O N T H E G R O U N D
Ah, yes. The comms menu. Press and hold C, boss. From here, you can intimidate enemies, call for backup, spot enemies and tell teammates when they’re dead, ask for a pickup (1.7.1), call for observer/suggest fire support (Commander/Observer only), and say yes or no, all without a mic.
We’re gonna focus on intimidating. When you intimidate, enemies nearby will respond. Sometimes they will come out of cover when you intimidate them. Useful when the objective is B L O C K E D B Y E N E M I E S or you’re losing the obj. and nobody knows where the enemies are.
Also, listen to the friendly and enemy AI. Sometimes they will call out RPGs, sometimes they will cry when suppressed, and they will cough without a mask in smoke.
P2 Section 5: Moment Of Silence, Objectives, Planning, and Night!
Using your mic is a 400 IQ game-changing move as well as a bad choice in different ways.
Enemies can hear you while you use the radio, and you can save others lives by using the radio.
That does not mean don’t use your mic. USE IT.
An objective, or obj., is an area you need to capture or defend, or a weapons cache you need to destroy.
-Capture: the point. There are enemies on the point, and you need to get there and eliminate them. This might lead to a counterattack, which means you’ll need to:
-Defend: the objective. Enemies are going to attack the objective, and you have little time to set up. Throw molotovs and inc. nades into every possible entryway. Fend off the attackers until the time period specified. Your next objective might be to:
-Destroy: a weapons cache. Bring inc. nades and/or explosives. You can try to find an enemy explosive in the cache, but I do not recommend doing that unless you have a lot of people covering you.
Plan ahead for everything you do. Don’t rush to the objective; take your time and walk (Press Alt boss) there. 360 security; watch every direction for enemies. Cover and Concealment; cars and thin walls won’t protect you as enemies will shoot through those if they know where you are, thick walls will protect you. Share your plan with your team, preferably verbally. Flank the enemy when possible.
During night, it’s harder to see, duh. If you’re a regular western force, take monocle NVGs. If you’re the locals, do flashlights. If you’re some super-special Tier 1 operators, take the quad-nods (GPNVGs). IR lasers are the most realistic looking in this game than any other game ever made, and there’s even IR flashlights that you should use on your pistols. Normal flashlights are really bright and can blind you.
Epilogue
Thanks for viewing my guide. This will change as time goes on and as the game updates. If you have any suggestions, feel free to comment your suggestion. Share this with your friends, and tell others these tactics.
