The Guild II Renaissance Guide

Draco's Starters Guide for The Guild II: Renaissance

Draco’s Starters Guide

Overview

A small guide for New Players who feel scammed because the in game tutorial is as useful as a broken hard drive.

Introduction

So I will go over game concepts, some in more extent than others. We will go over all concepts and I will make more specific guides on classes later. But for now this is a start in helping you noobs.

This guide was made with the assumption you have done the tutorial.

If you can’t access the tutorial you can get it by right clicking The Guild 2: Renisance, then click properties. Go to the betas tab and select Latest Patch. You should now be able to open the in game tutorial.

Getting Started

Now that you have pressed that play button and gotten through the black screens with sound you should see the main menu. I would assume that you want to play singleplayer so press that button, then Start Game button naturally.

You should now see a menu like this one. On the far left on the top is the map list, and below that there is a brief summary of the map.

Now for the settings. The check boxes most people would tell you to check them both, as they can reduce lag and make the game less of cluster ♥♥♥♥.

Now the first setting is “Years per Round”. A round is a 24 minute period that simulates 1 full day. At the end of the round it changes year and season. Note that when in winter and fall carts move slower than spring and summer.

The next setting is “Office Sessions. ev”(Yes I know it makes no sense). This sets how many rounds are in between elections, which we will cover later.

Next is hometown. You set your home town by pressing on the town you would like on the map. On this map called “The Hansa” there is a bandit camp between Danzig and Hamburg and another between London and Hamburg, so just be carefull of that.

Next we have gamemode. They all really play the same they just determine the game ending conditions, so just pick whatever you fancy but you dont really ever win unless you play elimination and kill of all other dynasties.

For mission most dont have any options. So just go with whatever.

Lastly we have difficulty which just determines the starting gold.

Now just pick your coat of arms and hit Start

Character Customization

You should now be presented with a menu like this. This is the creation menu. All skills cost XP and can be upgraded throught out the entire game. You start with 500 XP you can see that I have spent some of mine.

You will also notice that you can pick a zodiac sign. This will give you 1 point in a given skill, so find the skill that you want.

There are four classes in the game. The Patron is the food producing class. Patrons dont tend to make alot of money but their cost of production is low. The Craftsman is a trade goods class. They produce anything from swords to chairs to shirts. The Scholar does services, such as banking and priesthood. The Rogue is the only class who cannot produce anything. They steal, mug, murder, and serve as private military forces.

You can also see that each skill has a symbol next to it thats either a plus, zero, or a minus. Skills with a plus are importiant to your class. Skills with a zero are not importiant, but are useful. Skills with a minus have no importiance and are generally useless for your class. We will go into depth of what skills do in the next section.

Your Religion is of no real importiance, but more characters tend to convert to protestantism the longer the game plays.

I hope to make a guide on each class and their buildings at another date.

Skills

I will explain each skill and the effect they have below. For those of you who skipped the last section I will briefly explain the symbols. + = Useful, 0 = situational, – = Not useful

Constitution: Makes your character have a longer life, more durable in battle, more likely to survive an illness, and increase carry weight.

Dexterity: Movement speed, Dodgeing in combat, better pickpocketing, and better burglary

Charisma: Permenant favor(relations) bonus, and better romance

Martial Arts: Better attacks

Handicrafts: Production speed

Stealth: Concealing illegal actions

Rhetoric: Better courtship, insults, threats, political meetings, trials, taunts in duels, and bribery

Empathy: Seeing through rhetoric, seeing through stealth

Barganing: Better sale prices, cheaper loans

Arcane Knowledge: Artifact effect, Artifact cooldown

A person who is the baliff might have a high empathy skill, where as a rouge might have high dexterity, martial arts, and constitution skills

Starting the Game

We should go over some key game elements.

If you look in the upper left corner of your screen you should see your coat of arms. The background color affects what color your flags and shirts are. As you can see my coat of arms has a bright green color in its background, and so my characters shirt and the flag on the house match it.

Now you might also ask what are the buildings on the right side of the screen. Well the first one is the Town Hall of the city you live in. From that building you can run for office, see the current laws, and buy a new title. the second is the markets. If you hover your mouse over it the menu will expand and show all markets on the map. The next one is counting houses, and not every map has them and you need a ship to get to them. Next is your house, after that are buisnesses that you own. If you hver over them it shows your current employees and trade carts. You can hire empolyees at your house and they can serve as body guards or sabetours.

Now that thats all out of the way you might ask what is the first thing you should do. Well I recomend you either buy or build a buisness. Not all buisnesses are going to be availible for purchace, but look for one to buy first in the city to ensure protection form the guards, however crofts, orchardists, and other similar building should never be built in cities.

The next thing to do is marrage to ensure the continuation of your dynasty. If you played the tutorial it explains courtship but I will give you a hint to ensure you get your spouse as quickly as possible. If you tell them to follow you after doing an action they will follow for 2 mins, and if you notice the romance action cooldown is 2 mins also. Just keep doing different interactions untill it lets you marry. Now send both you and your spouse to your house to “Spend the night together” so they make babies. She will not be able to do anything while pregnant. Also marrying someone of a different class also unlocks that classes buildings for purchase and construction.

Mind you this should all hopefully be finished all in 1 day(round). Construction may not finish in the first round so dont fret.

Titles

Titles are extremely importiant in a preindustrial society. You can buy your way from a lowly commoner all the way up to nobility. To abtain these you purchase them from the clerk in the Town Meeting Hall.

Eliminating the Competition

Now you might be asking “How do I become the top family?” and there is many ways to do this.

Elimination
This is just what it sounds like. Kill everyone that stands in your way from becoming the number one dynasty. Just like Hillary Clinton

Sabotage
Bomb every buisness that competites with you, even if they are across the map.

War
Full on assault of rival buisnesses, homes, and even a mass attack against family members.

While all of these tactics are expensive and will cost alot of lives(hopefully enemy ones). Players will retaliate different then the AI, who pretty much just does jack squat and just takes it like a ♥♥♥♥♥. You can always experiment with tactics and come up with new ones, such as attacking trade and hiring mercs.

You can sabotage a building with a thug(employed from your house) and with the correct upgrades you can begin bombing buildings. This does alot of damage in a short period of time and you will want to send multiple people at it so you seize the building quckly before they can repair it, or to completely destroy it.

Trade Routes

This is a system where your carts will travel in automated paths. Now this is set up by using the unload button, then picking “set up a trade route”. Heres a simple list to get you started.

1. Pick up or drop off. At stop 1 you must always pick up.

2. Which good is to be picked up or dropped off, and naturally you pick the manufactured good you are sending away.

3. Pick a quantity, the options are based on 5, so that meaning you can take 5, 10, 15 or 20.

4. Pick a time. Often is a constant flow of goods. Sometimes is a frequent flow of goods. Rarely is self explanitory.

5. Repeat 1-4 each time you add a building. Markets and Counting houses can be added to these routes too for automatic sale of goods.
