It all started by kadokawa games.
Kadokawa released a game called “Kantai Collection” (艦隊これくしょん) or KanColle for short. In that anime, It has a lot of shipgirls, with the names taken from the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) warships.
And then, It started.
In the following show, Fubuki AKA Special Type Destroyer is the main character, while Yuudachi and Mutsuki are side characters. But this guide is FOCUSED on Yuudachi.
Origin of “Poi”
Kantai Collection was released in 2013. In the game, the character Yuudachi was noted to use the word “poi” as a vocal tic many times, probably as a reference to the uncertain fate of the World War II warship the character was based on.

Who is Yuudachi?
Yuudachi is a Shiratsuyu-class Destroyer, of the Imperial Japanese Navy, Basically, She’s the one who started POI. She tends to say POI every last word she says. She even got scolded for saying poi.
