All augmentation canisters and upgrades

Overview

A guide to the locations of all augmentation canisters and upgrade canisters, whether they be obtainable or not.

Intro

This is a list of every augmentation canister and upgrade canister in the game, including ones that can’t be obtained yet. This is for when they are changed to be able to be obtained and to tell you when they are just for show.

If you haven’t gathered yet, this list will contain spoilers, so don’t read it if you haven’t at least played the original yet.

Other than that, enjoy.

Liberty Island 1

First augmentation canister to get is plain and simple, located right at the top of the command centre in the statue just like in the original, hard to miss.

Battery Park 1

Second augmentation canister is in Battery Park, under Castle Clinton, again, like in the original. This one contains aqualung and environmental resistance. The key to the safe can be gained from the terrorist patrolling the ambrosia downstairs, but is only useful if you’re going to lockpick the door. If you have explosives it’s best to use that since that destroys both the door protecting the safe, and the safe itself.

NYC Street 1

When entering Osgood and Sons (via the door), turn to the right to find a new door. Inside is an augmentation upgrade canister. The code to the door is 1492. Remember that this only appears on patch 1.0.2+.

NSF Warehouse

Same as original, located under the warehouse itself. This can be accessed from the inside or from the outside using the ramp and the code 2577. There is now a hole in the garage wall which makes it faster to get inside and to the ramp if you are going that way. It is best to use explosives to open this one. If you have none then you can push the explosive barrel outside and then shoot it from a distance to destroy the lasers, camera and safe. There are also LAMs inside the room if needed.

Airfield Helibase

Same as in vanilla Deus Ex, only this time it doesn’t appear on realistic difficulty. That’s right, sucks to be you, but that’s why you’re playing on realistic.
To get to the bookshelf you need to head left from the first barrel of ambrosia and go up the stairs, when there go forward until you can see the ambrosia again, then turn left. You will either need to pick open the lock, destroy the door, or confuse the AI into opening it for you.

The bookshelf can be activated from this button.

747

Again, same as original. This one is in the cargo hold of the 747 with the ambrosia, locked in a nano-particle safe.

A code is required to be opened which can be found from the datacube behind Lebedev’s bed. Keypad code: 9905

UNATCO 2

Same as vanilla, appears in the medical cupboard inside the med centre. The key can be found behind the potted plant near Jaime on UNATCO 1. Otherwise you’ll have to lockpick it, 50% strength.

Ton Hotel 2

Something new, this augmentation upgrade canister changes its position if you’re playing on realistic, perhaps to throw you off. If you’re playing on Easy-Hard it appears in the bookshelf as normal in Paul’s room.

Smuggler’s Lair 2

This augmentation canister is purely for show, do not bother going for it!

MJ12 Prison/Lab

This canister is found in the same place as vanilla, in the nanotech lab. You can either use a multitool to hack the keypad or use the computer to remove the forcefield.
The computer is seen here, where the MiB sits.
The code for the keypad is: 9905
The login/password for the computer is: raptor/strain33 or dmoreau/raptor or psherman/raven

UNATCO 3

Same as vanilla, next to Jaime in the med lab.

Same as vanilla, in the armoury, make sure you talk to Carter to open the door first.

Hong Kong Canal

Found in the collapsed tunnel. This can be hard to get to. You have to find the Old China Hand bar, which can be found if you go left immediately if coming from the market. Once there go into the back to the freezer section. Jump up the props and go into the vents, you’ll go across the canal and to a ladder full of water. You’ll need to go into there to find the body with the upgrade canister, but beware of the baby karkians swimming about!

Hong Kong Tong’s Base

Same as vanilla. This upgrade canister is given to you from Jaime when you finish Hong Kong (Jock lands), but only if you told Jaime to follow you in UNATCO.

Versalife Labs

These augmentation canisters are the same as in vanilla. The only difference is now that computer has moved.

You will need to use the computer or keypad inside to get the canisters.

The code for the keypad is: 43212 and 9825
The login/password for the computer is: MLUNDQUIST/DAMOCLES or MCHOW/DAMOCLES or ADONOVAN/DAMOCLES or MBATES/DAMOCLES

This augmentation upgrade is completely new, in a completely new area too. This augmentation upgrade is in a vent, the easiest way to get into the vent is via the new grate in the barracks, go forward as far as possible and choose the route up. You will see the canister at the end when you go up and go right, plus you get bonus skill points.

Versalife UC / Storage

Same as vanilla, there is a medical bot at the bottom of the ladder to install them if you have limited space. You will need to open them using the keypad.

Same as vanilla, easy upgrade.

Keypad code is: 01

Be warned that all the keypads can be destroyed if you are careless!

Tonnochi Road

A new augmentation upgrade canister. Only available on patch 1.0.3+.

Lucky Money

New upgrade canister, easy to get, just hidden from sight if you go in a straight path. It’s located under the bridge, so crouch into the water to get it.

NYC Street 3

New augmentation upgrade canister. Located in the trailer lot, in the trailer to the left, inside the medical crate.

Smuggler’s Lair 3

This upgrade canister is only possible to get if you saved Schick from MJ12 back in chapter two. He appears upstairs sat on a couch.

Like before there’s another augmentation upgrade canister in Smuggler’s armoury that isn’t possible to get.

Dockyard

Inside the safe at the commander’s office. Pre-patch 1.0.1.2 saves that are here won’t have a safe, but will have the datacube and augmentation canister on the floor.

Ship Upper Decks

Just like vanilla, use lockpicks or explosives to get it.

New augmentation upgrade canister located in a general crate at the back wall of the docks, near the front of the ship.

Ship Lower Decks

This augmentation canister is in the small armoury on the ship near the bilge pumps. You’ll either need to use the speed while standing on the bilge pumps or use the big fan and go in via the vent.

Keypad code: 9999

Graveyard

Same as vanilla’s. Use an explosive or lockpick to gain it.

Don’t bother getting these, otherwise you’ll be coaxed into a snafu!

Chateau

Both in the same place, can be unlocked using the security console nearby where the wooden planks and LAW was. Otherwise use the keypad code or hack it. Remember that the upgrade canister doesn’t appear on realistic though!

Everett’s Home

All of these can be found where Everett is. You need to use the keypads or computer console to open them.

Vandenberg Command

Both are in the same places as they are in vanilla. Nothing special to say.

Vandenberg Tunnels

Same as vanilla I think. The augmentation upgrade canister appears on the dead mechanic’s body under water. It appears in the locked room at the bottom of the stairs.

Keypad code: 2134

Ocean Lab Surface

Same as vanilla. Given when you talk to Gary Savage at the end of the level as long as you saved Tiffany, otherwise you get nothing.

Ocean Lab, Lab

This body contains an augmentation upgrade canister you also get two biocells. Swim from the sub-bay to the building with the green beacon, the room is on the top behind the side that faces the sub-bay. This augmentation only appears on patch 1.0.3+.

Ocean Lab UC

Same as vanilla, on the body of the dead MiB. You need to climb on the pipe and then light and then jump to the elevator to exit the water when you have it.

Area 51 Bunker

Same as vanilla, in this building’s locked hatch and then in a safe. The key can be found next to the dead mechanic, above Xavier in the hangar with the two commandos and MiB.

Area 51 Entrance

Both located in the same area, but in different beds. Beware of the sneaky greasel!

Area 51 Final

Same as the original, located in the safe at the top of the stairs where the MiB and mechanic talk. Either use the computer or keypad to unlock it.

Area 51 Page

Right at the start of the level, the first body you see contains it. Simple as that.
