Overview
Ever Tired of annoying stacks of sassanids that keep respawning no matter how many times u destory their stacks??? No worries the ultimate guide to rekt sassanids has finally arrived!!!!
Part 1: Defending yur borders and building yur economy
ATTENTION!!!! I know u want to conquer stuff but u cant.
1.Knowing what assets you have: You only start with 6 legions which are not even full legions and most importantly u lack cav in the beginning and mercs are expensive.
2.How to Maximize your limited Resources: ETC: Rather than building 2 full armies of 20 units i built 3 armies of 15 units each. Trust me its more than enough to defeat sassanid stacks as long u are in a fortified position.
3. ECONOMY: Do not build yur army aggresively unless u are earning 5000 or more surplus money per turn. Firstly, the West Romans will be attacked by many enemies and if western rome’s ports are seized by barbarians you can say goodbye to yur economy if u are not earning more than 5000 per turn. 2, In case yur frontier towns get sacked u are still able to sustain yur economy Make SURE u are earning money before u start building up an offensive army. 3. Make SURE know where to build yur main economic buildings. I recommend in asia, clicia and the cretan isles as these are the provinces least likely to be sacked by enemies.
4. Terrain and good intel: Knowing where to set up forts or garrision yur army will make the difference stopping enemy incursions or allowing the enemy to wreck havoc behind yur frontiers thus u have to send an army from the frontier to deal with them weakening yur already weak frontiers.
5. Knowing what to defend: If u are unable to defend everything choose to defend yur most valuable settlements .
6. Sanitation: This is the 1st thing u should address as a plague could cripple an army’s ability to replenish after a fight resulting in the DESTRUCTION of an enitre army. something u cannot afford.
P.S: I apologize for being unable to show the beginning of of campaign as my pictures of the early game got corrupted 🙁
Part 2: Time to ERADICATE those pests
OK welcome to Part 2. Congrats u have weathered the Sassanids and built up yur economy??? Good time to move on to phase 2 to eradicate those annonying C*&ts.
1. Time to build an offensive army. Build up yur armies to 20 units each with good cav. Most preferably using merc cav as early roman cav is ♥♥♥♥.
2. Know which settlement to capture so u will have a smaller border to defend. It is very crucial that u need to know which are the most annoying pests/factions so u can decide who to eradicate 1st. For example,i secured armenia and oserone then i moved on to secure media artopane.
See i only need 3 armies to guard my borders securely. I only need to place an army in Media Artopane and 2 armies in spahan to safeguard my borders in the east.
3.Do not attack a fortified enemy position unless u are sure that u will not suffer too many casulties. For example u might be able to capture a settlement. But u must resist this temptation to do so as this is a pyrrhic victory. Although u may be able to capture it easily holding onto it is the difficult task.
4.Always try to fight in a fortified postion this is why.
Can u Believe it??? 4 Stacks gone in a puff of smoke and this tactic works even if the enemy fights u with 5 stacks.
5. Ensure that your armies are able to reinforce each other so that u may seize the initative. For etc one army has defeated sassanid stacks but is unable to capture the settlement due to casulties sustained. the other fresh army will sweep in to seize the day.
6. Just keep repeating step 2-5 and your victory is secured.
And thats the end of the mighty sassanid empire u are now the masters of the east.
P.S dun trust the peace treaties of the now liberated ex-sassanid puppet states. These factions are treachrous. Peace this turn and they will raid yur provinces the next. Eradicate them too.
Part 3: Units that are cheap and good
This is just a bonus part about what units i think are good.
Legio Family tree of units is the backbone of yur ere army.
The spears family tree of units are essential to stop enemy cav
If possible do not use sagittari as yur ranged units use these instead they are cheaper and better
Those Steppe bows are just the scourge of god for the ranged unit department.
Special units
The Germanic warband is a cheap and makes short work of enemy infantry provided that u keep them out of range of enemy archers. They are better than yur hertiatra guards in terms of costs.
Roman Units are one of the best infantry in the game tier 1 units already has more armor than most other units in the entire game
