Boring Man – Online Tactical Stickman Combat Guide

How to Rule the 'Rang for Boring Man - Online Tactical Stickman Combat

How to Rule the ‘Rang

Overview

The grenade items of Boring Man have a wide range of uses, from disabling generators to freezing foes in their tracks. The boomerang is one “grenade” that can pack a serious punch if used correctly. With this guide, you’ll rule the ‘rang in no time!

Obtain the Power

First, of course, you must unlock the boomerang. To get it, just level up until you unlock it.

Control the Power

Now that you have the destroyer of worlds in your possession, you must control it so you can DELIVER PAIN AND SUFFERING. The default button for grenades is F, but that feels really awkward and if your movement is WASD you’ll have to stop(if moving right). I set my grenades to the spacebar so I can move freely while throwing my silly pineapples. Alternatively, you can get an emulator and set your grenade button to a mouse click. This gives you the best control over the boomerang. If you set your grenade button to middle mouse(scroll button) you’ll be able to control standard fire, alternate fire, and grenades all with 1 hand. The emulator route is pretty extra, so don’t feel bad for using space.

The ‘Rang’s Two Basic Mechanics

It’s a 2 Part Story

The boomerang requires you to be aware of your trajectory. You cannot throw this thing around willy-nilly. It requires two button presses: the first one throws it, the second catches it. If you do not catch this thing, you will get hit for 20 damage. When you’re in a tight spot, getting whacked by a curvy wooden stick is not ideal. Many times this has screwed me over from a solid 50 HP to a measly 30HP. REMEMBER TO CLICK TWICE!

It’s a ghost stick

The boomerang is determined to get back to you. Determined enough to phase through walls. On the initial toss, the boomerang stops and bounces back to you upon contact with an object. But once it starts on its way back, nothing is stopping it. This means that if you forgot your second button press, you’re in for a world of hurt.

The Stats and Other Things

  • The boomerang hits like a truck. 50 damage on contact with an enemy, 20 damage on contact with your face, and 50 damage to an enemy nearby while your face gets smashed. It’s really funny to kill an enemy while the boomerang hits your face. It should be a cheevo, honestly.
  • It’s fast. A bit slower than other grenades like the Muleslapper, but still very fast.
  • Range is decent. Same amount of range as the Potato Masher.
  • Hitbox is wonky. It’s about 2x the size of the actual boomerang.
  • Can explode barrels like a grenade.
  • Cannot be used underwater.
  • Sometimes it will hit you in the face, even if you’ve pressed the button to catch it

Some Other Awesome Effects

  • The boomerang will fly about aimlessly if you die while it’s been thrown. IT STILL PHASES THROUGH WALLS IN THIS STATE!
  • Will follow you into water.

Why I Call it the Doomerang:How to Use It

How to Throw It
  • You always want a location before you throw it. The ‘rang works best when you read your opponent and are one step ahead.
  • Getting up close and personal is a must. The boomerang has pretty short range, and you want to make sure it passes your opponent so they’re caught while it returns.
  • Make use of walls. At the end of the initial toss it stops for about half a second. Anyone near it at that half second will get hit twice, netting you a kill. Throwing the boomerang at walls will make it stop prematurely, so you can plan out your double hits on people walljumping or finish off cornered foes.
  • The hitbox is much larger than it seems. You can even toss the boomerang early and the edge of its abnormally large hitbox will hurt enemies.
  • It explodes barrels. Enough said.
How to Catch It
  • Find cover. Just like any other ranged weapon, protection is ideal when in a firefight. You wanna get out, toss it, and duck back behind cover. Its ability to pass through walls comes in handy when you want to stay safe.
  • Draw the return path. Depending on how you position yourself, you can throw your ‘rang and it will tear through people above, beside, or below you with ease.

Game Modes
The doomerang is best suited for Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, and Takeover. Deathmatch=people everywhere. You’ll always hit some poor shmuck.
Capture the Flag+Takeover=Campers. People all gathered in one spot are begging to be torn to shreds by this thing.
Any other game modes either deny you access to the deathstick or you’ll simply be outclassed by people using better weapons(Team Deathmatch).

The Cons

Unfortunately, this thing has quite a few cons:

  • Requires you to be more aware than any other weapon
  • Short range
  • Can kill you
  • Not useful in many game modes
  • Tough to use with default controls
  • Sometimes hits you even if you pressed the throw button twice
  • Sometimes hits you even if you pressed the throw button twice
  • Sometimes hits you even if you pressed the throw button twice
  • Sometimes hits you even if you pressed the throw button twice
  • Not good for enclosed spaces

So overall, it’s not very viable. But it is fashionable. And seriously, you have like a 50% chance of getting hit on the return. It seems to be a bug because sometimes it will bounce off a wall as it returns. When that happens, you’re getting hit. Mainly, these bugs seem to be caused by going too far away from where you first threw it. I REALLY hope this is fixed in the future. In all honesty, it works MUCH, MUCH better as a gun than as a grenade. I doubt it will be changed at all, but one can hope, no?

The End

Welp, this is the end. This is the first guide I’ve made for a game period, and I’m glad it was for Boring Man. Constructive criticism is welcome and postitive ratings are incredibly appreciated.
