Five Nights at Freddy’s Guide

The FNAF Theory for Five Nights at Freddy's

The FNAF Theory

Overview

So, this is a collection of my theories on Five Nights at Freddy’s. I promised you guys I’d create a guide like this, but, just so you know, none of this is confirmed by Scott Cawthon. If it has been, it is purely coincidental, as I’ve never actually asked him.

So, this is how it begins…

Before you try to decode Five Nights at Freddy’s you have to realize that the games are not in chronological order. For example, FNAF 2 happens before FNAF 1. And FNAF 4 happens before FNAF 2. So, don’t rely on the number behind the game to tell you where it falls.

Now that that’s out of the way, our story begins in FNAF 4. It may seem absolutely crazy, but bear with me. People instantly assume that you see William Afton killing a child in a spring-lock suit in FNAF 4. However a few vital pieces are missing to confirm this. For example, animation did exist in these pre-night cutscenes. For example, you can see things move, such as Michael crying when he tried to go through the door. If Afton was killing the person in the Fredbear suit, they would be struggling or crying. The person was completely still in the suit as Afton put the mask on it. Most likely, that was just an employee that Afton was lending a hand. This just shows how good Afton is with animatronics. In short, it means more later than it does right then.

Anyway, the main story begins when Michael is killed by his brother and three of his friends. They shove Michael’s head into Fredbear’s mouth, and, as it was singing, it bit down, resulting in the Bite of ’83. This is confirmed by the easter egg in Sister Location where, if you get access to the private room, you can type the code 1-9-8-3 into the keypad, and it shows rooms from FNAF 4. There was a bite of ’87, but more on that later.

When William Afton saw that his son was dead, he most likely asked the nearest person what happened. Seeing as how Michael’s brother was closest, he would have been asked. Now, who can honestly say that a teenager is going to admit when he messes up, much less admit to second-degree murder? After all, Michael’s brother wasn’t trying to kill him, just bully him. So, he would have lied to William, saying something along the lines of, “It just bit down on him.”

Wouldn’t seem like much, but that one little lie started a string of murders. William Afton actually bought the story, and he never checked any cameras or anything. So, the first person Afton blames is the creator of the animatronic Fredbear. That would be his partner, Henry. His last name is never made known. So, Afton plans his revenge…

The first six murders

Afton decides that, because he thinks Henry killed his son, he should kill Henry’s daughter, Charlotte. As can be seen in a FNAF 3 minigame, Charlotte is killed by Afton as she is trying to get into Fredbear’s, which was suspiciously locked while people were inside. After Afton leaves, one of the Security Puppets (puppets with cameras, designed to keep an eye on the place) goes outside, and tries to get her to safety. Unfortunately, it was raining, and the wiring was shorting out. The puppet made it to her, but then it shorted out, while holding her. This allowed for Charlotte’s soul to enter the puppet.

Afton didn’t think that Henry’s loss of his daughter was enough, however. He also wanted to destroy the buisness that Henry and he had created. He bided his time, waited a few years, until the first Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza opened up (The FNAF 2 pizzaria). The first five victims (outside of Charlotte) were killed in the Withered animatronics of FNAF 2. The sixth victim was killed in the Golden Freddy suit, whose endoskeleton was removed, so he can’t move on his own. That’s why you don’t see him much, if any.

The events of FNAF 2 take place, and it gives Afton an idea. He sees the animatronics being controlled by the children’s spirits. He begins to wonder what would happen if he could harness this power, if it would be possible to bring his son Michael back, as a robot. He starts trying to understand the animatronics, to see what made them tick, so to speak.

Henry tries to open a second pizzaria, the FNAF 1 pizzaria, with new animatronics. Well, he THINKS they’re new…

Afton created the four animatronics in FNAF 1 using parts from the withered animatronics of FNAF 2. So, they are still possesed. By now, Afton has become highly unstable, and had already killed countless children inside the animatronics they loved so much back at the first pizzaria. The toy animatronics had facial recognition sensors, and the reason for that was, in fact, the countless murders that had occured beforehand. As can be seen, they didn’t work, because Afton wasn’t a known criminal. Not yet, anyway.

Afton wasn’t the only one who tried to bring back their child as a robot. Henry was devastated when he lost his daughter, so he tried to bring her back. He actually succeeds, and creates four versions of his daughter, representing the four stages of life she would experience, allowing her to “grow up” so to speak. The four stages were infancy, childhood, teenager, and adult.

Afton found out about this and decided to find out how it was possible. So, when Charlotte was in her young child robot, Afton stole the adult version. He found out how to create illusions using small discs designed to emit sound frequencies that tampered with human perception. So, he altered Charlotte’s adult form, to get the final piece to the puzzle that he needed to complete to return Michael to “life.”

Pandemonium

Things are already crazy by this point, but they are about to get crazier. The altered form of adult Charlotte was named “Circus Baby,” and this was Afton’s inspiration for creating yet another pizzaria. Yeah, Afton loves pizza, I guess. Anyway, this new pizzaria was called “Circus Baby’s Pizza World.” The main stars were Circus Baby, Ballora, Funtime Foxy and Funtime Freddy. And it was all a trap. Each one of the animatronics there had proximity sensors that, when certain conditions were met, would trigger a claw that pulled the nearest child into the animatronic. Three of the animatronics did exactly what Afton wanted. However, Afton failed to factor in one thing.

Afton’s daughter, Elizabeth, had a certain passion for Circus Baby. Afton told her many times not to approach Baby, as he knew what would happen. He failed to realize that children rarely do as they’re told. Elizabeth simply waited until William’s attention was diverted, then went up to Circus Baby. I think you can guess what happened. Afton didn’t make an exception for his daughter, and so, she was killed. She possesed Baby, but by that time, Afton already succeeded in re-creating Michael.

Afton was in the FNAF 1 pizzaria again, trying to dismantle the old animatronics (as he no longer needed them), when the spirits of the children he had killed there (NOT THE ANIMATRONICS, JUST THE SPIRITS) cornered him in the employee safe room that ONLY HE KNEW ABOUT. There’s a reason I capitalized this, I’ll get to it in a second. Afton was cornered, with no way out. He saw the Spring Bonnie spring-lock suit behind him, and probably thought that would save him. He entered the suit, and the spring-locks failed. The suit killed him, and he later possesed it.

The reason I capitalized the part above is because, for some stupid reason, some people think it’s Michael in that suit. IT’S NOT. IT IS LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE. Michael wouldn’t have even known the FNAF 1 pizzaria existed, and, if he did, he wouldn’t have had a reason to go in there. Besides, Michael Afton is in Sister Location, a game i’ll get to in a second. Just to reiterate, MIKETRAP DOSEN’T EXIST.

So, Afton dies, Elizabeth dies, by this time, Henry had committed suicide, Charlotte and Michael are technically dead, even if their memories are simulated and they are in robots. Lots of death already, right? Couldn’t possibly get any worse, right? WRONG.

The “Sister Location”

After Afton had died, and Elizabeth was killed as well, a new animatronic “Rental Service” started up. The four Funtime animatronics (to include Ballora and Baby) were relocated to an underground facility called “Circus Baby’s Rentals.” This rental facility was directly under Henry’s old house, and this is proven in the FNAF novel, “The Twisted Ones.” In any case, Michael (WHO IS NOT DEAD INSIDE OF SPRINGTRAP) applies for the night guard position there. This is proven by the sticker above HandUnit’s keypad. It clearly says, “Mike.” I doubt Michael knew what was going to happen, but the events of Sister Location happen, during which the Funtime animatronics used the “Scooping Room” (a room with a giant metal scooping device designed to remove an animatronic’s endoskeleton) to scoop out their insides and combine themselves in a desperate attempt to escape. They lure Michael to the Scooping Room, and scoop out his insides to use his body for escape. They didn’t know, however that he was a robot himself, so, when the combo-tronic (named Ennard) finally left Michael’s body, he wasn’t dead. Thus comes the whole, “I should be dead… But i’m not.” speech.

During Ennard’s escape, he discharges what is left of Circus Baby, and the remaining three animatronics become Molten Freddy. Circus Baby becomes Scrap Baby.

During the Sister Location storyline, FNAF 3 was happening. Springtrap (William Afton) had woken up, and eventually burned down Fazbear’s Fright (a horror attraction based on the events of the Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza from FNAF 1). He, and the other animatronics that were still active, recieved a strange transmission, leading them somewhere…

This is where your story ends…

The transmission led Molten Freddy, Scrap Baby, a scrapped out version of Springtrap (ironically referred to as Scraptrap), and a fourth animatronic known as Lefty (The animatronic trap that was created to ensnare the puppet[Charlotte].) to a new pizzaria. Yeah, I know, enough with the pizzarias already, I hear you saying.

Anyway, it wasn’t all it seemed to be. The night guard there saw an advertisement in the paper, but who created this place? Who is the night guard’s employer? Who sent the transmission that brought all of the animatronics here? No one knows, until the end of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzaria Simulator.

The animatronics are fully convinced that it’s just another pizzaria, and, to be honest, so is the night guard. In fact, the animatronics refer to it as a “gift.” Well, It was nice while it lasted, but guess what? That mysterious person? It’s Henry.

Yeah, I know, I know, he’s supposed to be dead. But so should EVERY OTHER ANIMATRONIC. But he doesn’t want to kill you, he just wants to finish the nightmare that countless night guards had experienced before. He reveals that the pizzaria is a labyrinth with no exit, a maze with no prize. He then proceeds to set the place on fire, destroying all of the animatronics and releasing their souls. He also burns you in the fire, with the reasoning that he has a “funny feeling this is where you want to be.”

The only way to access the true ending of this game is to try to salvage all the animatronics. If you don’t, you’ll get fired, and you’ll never see the true ending. Thus ends our story… or is it over?

The Ultimate Custom Night

Just when you thought the series was hitting it’s maximum weirdness, things got even stranger. The Ultimate Custom Night Game is a difficult one to explain, but I’ll start by pointing out a few logic errors. Springtrap and Scraptrap are both in this game, sometimes at the same time. Same with Circus Baby and Scrap Baby. This also holds true with L.E.F.T.E. and the Puppet. See the issues?

If you don’t, I don’t blame you. But if you do, you’ll know that a person cannot logically be in the same place at the same time. Circus Baby and Scrap Baby are both Elizabeth Afton. Springtrap and Scraptrap are both William Afton. L.E.F.T.E. and the Puppet are both Charlotte Emily, Henry’s daughter. So, how are these characters in the same place, at the same time?

The answer is actually simple, although it isn’t easy to spot from a lore standpoint. This is actually William Afton in Hell, trapped in a world of never-ending torment. The reason these characters exist is because Afton knows he killed them. Their souls are tormenting Afton, seemingly endlessly.

This means that it is possible to have two of the same character per night, as this realm isn’t bound to logical laws. I do believe this is where the next chapter comes in, Help Wanted.

Help Wanted!

Just when we thought we were done, Afton strikes again. Apparently, someone found the pieces of Scraptrap, including the circuit boards. Apparently, they contained some useful code that a VR gaming company could use to create a Five Nights at Freddy’s VR game. It also contained William Afton’s soul, which SOMEHOW stuck around. So, when the code was uploaded into the game, Glitchtrap appeared.

Afton had figured out how to seduce people’s minds from within the game. When you play the game, and you find your first audio tape, it is made by someone named Vanessa. She explains how she “got rid of” Glitchtrap by fragmenting the code inside the audio tapes themselves. She warns you not to collect all of them, as it would complete Glitchtrap. As you collect more and more tapes, the story is revealed more and more:

At this VR game company, there are playtesters of the games, two of which include Vanessa and someone named Jeremy. Jeremy was an early playtester, from which time that Glitchtrap was still complete. Glitchtrap tried to seduce Jeremy’s mind, but only partially succeeded. Jeremy was still fighting Afton’s control, so much that he distracted himself by cutting his own face off. The pain helped focus his mind on something other than Afton. But Afton didn’t stop there.

Enter Vanessa, who is the next playtester in line. she manages to fragment Glitchtrap, but not before Afton takes control of her mind as well, this time completely. This is proven when you win the strange bunny mask, and the Springtrap plushie. If you put the bunny mask on, and hold the Springtrap plushie, you will hear Vanessa talking to herself. She is obviously under Afton’s control, as she seems intent on impressing him.

Enter you, as a playtester, who is in a game that should be safe… unless you bring the tapes together. Then, you have a problem. But this reveals that Afton may have corrupted many, many people. Meaning this horror story is far from over.

This is actually not where it ends, Henry… You messed up…

Security Breach!

So, our funny bunny friend has taken partial control over Vanessa’s mind. Okay, so worst case scenario, we get a rabbit with homicidal intentions starting another pizzeria, right? Well, partially. You see, Afton used what control he had over Vanessa (Vanny) to influence the creation of the Freddy Fazbear’s Mega Pizzaplex. Yeah, go big or go home, am I right? So, Vanny (under Afton’s influence) gets a job there as a security guard.

An important thing to note here is that Afton’s control over Vanny is not complete. Vanny still tries to break his hold, albeit kind of uselessly. This can be seen in company emails back in Help Wanted, where she is contacted about google searches with keywords like “Help” and “How to induce compliance in human subjects.” The first search is Vanessa trying to find help, or a way out of her plight. The second is Afton looking for a way to complete his control over Vanny. This incomplete control results in a sort of “relunctant follower” of Afton’s.

**Due to the game’s release being delayed, the rest of this guide will be updated when the game fully comes out. Rest assured, I still keep this theory updated. Sorry to disappoint.**

That’s all for now…

So, there is more to come in this story, I’m absolutely sure of it. And I’ll add on as Scott adds on. So, if you think I overlooked something (AND DON’T FEED ME THE WHOLE MIKETRAP BOGUS), then please, comment. Let me know, and make sure you can prove the fact that you think I overlooked. Saying that “You overlooked the Bite of 3017” doesn’t actually prove anything. There isn’t a Bite of 3017.

I’d like to thank you all for your support, as well.

Anyway, that’s all for now, stay tuned for further updates. Goodbye!
