HOW TO: getting started in lone survival for Space Engineers

HOW TO: getting started in lone survival

Overview

Some people (like myself) may love jumping into an expensive new game with no outside guides, wikis, tips, etc. However, i am sure there are many people out there, who don’t want to figure stuff out for themselves. this guide is for YOOOOOOOU!

I. The Creation

When creating a world, choose an options or features you want, though if you are reading this guide, you probobly should select survival. The difficulty settings, are the ones such as inventory size and whatnot, if you want to have a sepreme hardcore chalenge leave everything on the default, but the long time spent mining is not happy time, so you can turn them up to. 😉

Meteors are very deadly, and tend not to discriminate new players from hardened players whose only fun is shooting at meteors! If you choose to have any amount of meteor showers in your world, you will need a turret as soon as possible!!!!!

when you are loading the world, sing the My Little Pony theme….

II. The Progression

If you did not sing MLP as the world was loading, your world is cursed and should never be seen by the eye again delete it and restart.

Now that you have begun a new world, your first job is to look around, notice all the large chunks of floating rock out in the distance, and at the make up of your station.

“So when do i get to build a fleet and attack cargo ships!?!?!?!???!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!!!!!?!?!??!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?” you may ask, and I will answer “After you gain enough resources.”

***PRESS G AND RIGHT CLICK ANY TOOL OR OBJECT TO PUT IT INTO YOUR TOOLBAR***

So, remember those floaty rocks full of ore? Press “X” then fly out to one, and then hold your drill out and dig towards different ore waypoints, then press/hold “T” to pick them up. Once you are ready to refine your ore, fly back to the platform, and place the ores into the refinery (press “K”) and have fun WAITING!!!! XD XD XD LOLOLOL TROLOLOLOL

(you may have to make multiple mining trips.)

#DavidTennantinplacesheshouldn’tbe

So now that we have stared at David Tennant for 3.134 hours of our life, lets continue.
press “K” on the assembler, and then drag all the refined ores into the slots of the assembler (under inventory)…
Then, go to production and select the tab that that looks like stairs. You can only build BLUE objects, If the one you want is red, go mining again.

So, go into the assemblers production tab, and press on the tab to the left of the stair look alike one, then left click the light armor block. go back to smail (stairs) and produce a landing gear. press G, and select build new SMALL ship. then left click the landing gear whereever you choose.

then weld it together.

after the landing gear is happy, and assuming you are humming MLP, you are ready for the next step.

III. the Boring Stuff

Now, go into the “G” menu, and right click on either the light, or heavy armor blocks.

***PRESS “P” TO SELECT A FUN COLOR***

When out of the “”G” Menu” press the number which coresponds with the blocks, and left click them all over until you are happy with the ship design. (If you want a better looking ship, use some of the other block variations I.E. slanted, corner.)

All ships need 1 thruster for every direction (at least 6 thrusters), a reactor, a gyroscope, and a cockpit. Use the assembler to create these items.

once you have your ship’s skeleton created, WELD ALL THE THINGS

IV. the First Flight

***REMEMBER TO PUT URANIUM INTO THE REACTOR(S)***

To unlock your landing gear from the ground, press “P”
To lock your landing gear to the ground, press “P”

To fly around, use the WASDC[SPACE/F] controls, aswell as the mouse.

Inertia Dampeners, are like simulated friction makers, cause your ships to not fly into space for ever at maximum speed, these can be toggled on/off with the “Z” key.

***EPIC TIP: PLACE A BEACON IN YOUR SHIP TO FIGHT THE URGE TO USE IT***

V. Salvaging/Pirating

If you had the cargo ships option turned on when you started the world, then you can fly out and salvage these ships, however, most ships are armed with turrets, and booby traps. If you want to, you can blow them to pieces, or fly them home.

I will not explain any tactics here, but you can experiment by yourself.

If you did not turn these on, fear not, if you exit to the main menu, and select load world, you can select a world, and edit options.

I hope this guide has been fun, and informing, have fun engineering, and, if you learned alot, favorite and rate up.

VI. Making it Look and Handle Good/Well

Of course, flat gray rectangles with thrusters aren’t exactly appealing to the eye. To combat bordom, use colors (“P”) and the vertical “blocks”.

***IT’S THE EYE OF THE TIGER***

When I build ships, I either name it as it looks, or decide on a name/design afterwards.

Here is a picture of one of my ships, the Eagle

If you want a gothic looking ship, try making your own color, and then move the bottom slider to the left, or if you want a happy rainbow ship, make it.

End notes

Blako –
Well done telling people what key is pressed as its easy to overlook. A little more foundation would be nice as would a concise abstract summary.

Blako –
[h]Resource Cycle:[/h]
Drilling:
Drilling for resources can be done by the hand drill or ship mounted drill. Each asteroid has different colors that correspond to different resources.
Refining
Raw materials are processed by the refinery into useable ingots.
Assembling
Ingots from the refinery are made into components ranging from solar panels to bullets.
Welding (by you)
With your backpack full of parts and a welding torch in hand space is yours to master.
Grinding (by you)
The hand-held grinder and its ship mounted versions, can disassemble objects back down to it’s ingredients. The player can even take the parts to an assembler set to disassembly mode to recycle the components back down to ingots where they can be used to make different components.

Blako –
“Press G and pull the welder (top left) down your toolbar on the bottom of the screen then walk up to an object and it will tell you the name and ingredients required to make that object. Lets say that your welding torch reports that the object in front of you requires steel plates. Go to the Assembler and interact with either the yellow door, if you want to reach inside and transfer physical objects, or the blue keypad, for anything else. Find and mouse over ‘steel plates’ in the assembler. It reports iron ingots are required to make steel plates. If you want to make anything consisting of steel plates, iron must first be mined.”

Thanks for the added content Blako!
