Dealing With Mutants for The Forest

Dealing With Mutants

Overview

A walkthrough guide on how to deal with your new cannibalistic foes. In this guide you’ll be learning about the attacks of the cannibals and mutants, what weapons to use and how to defend your home.

Introduction

Hello there! In this guide, I will be guiding you on how to deal with your new cannibal and mutant enemies.

They might be hard to handle at first, but once you get used to them, they’ll be easy to kill.

Skinny cannibals

If you just started a new game, these will most plausibly be the first ones you confront.

The skinny cannibals are easy enough to handle. They generally come in collections of 3-5. They carry sticks as weapons, and they’re extremely fast and can effortlessly dodge your attacks. I would recommend using the katana from the Dead Cave, or the Plane Axe from the plane to kill them.
If you’re hardcore, you might want to try the Crafted Axe, one precise blow will one-shot them.

Tribal cannibals

Tribal cannibals are often seen traveling with a distorted mutant, ordinarily the Armsy. They’re seen in groups from 4-6. The male cannibals are adorned with many things. Masks, skulls, makeshift lamps, necklaces, and many more ominous things.
The simplest way to deal with these savages is by using molotovs, the Rusty Axe or the Modern Axe.

Pale cannibals

Pale cannibals are cannibals with no gender. They wear no decorative items, have completely white eyes and usually carry no weapons, but can rarely be seen walking around with sticks.
To kill these, I’d recommend using molotovs, or the katana.

Late game cannibals

These mutants are usually troublesome to take care of because they’re one of the late game enemies. They only emerge after you’ve slaughtered their companions for a long time. They are the toughest of the mutants and are able to crush maxed out bone armor in 4 hits. They are often seen roaming around in pairs of 3-6.

Don’t get too close, they’re really strong and underestimating them will mean your downfall. Any ranged weapon would be good for these monsters.
The Katana can also be good if used correctly, but if you don’t block and hit them right, you’ll probably end up dying and get dragged off to the Hanging Cave.

Mutant babies

Mutant babies are distorted mutants. The babies will try to jump at you and can be very deadly if in a group of several. The babies are mostly seen in caves, especially the Hanging Cave. They appear in groups from 4-9. In caves, they’re mostly accompanied by the pale mutants or the Virginia mutant. The babies can also spawn on the surface though rarely more than 3.

Virginia

Virginia is a distorted mutant. It seems to be made of several other mutants fused together.
It can take off into the skies and try to land on you, but will not catch you if you move away when it jumps. It is quite sturdy and has a ton of health. I advise using molotovs, explosives or fire arrows.

The Virginia also has a counterpart, the blue Virginia. The blue version of the Virginia is tougher, faster and does more damage. But once again, use the weapons above and it will perish quickly.

Armsy

The Armsy is another distorted mutant, just like the Virginia. The Armsy is tough, agile and dangerous. It is highly aggressive and does enough damage to kill you in a single hit if you have no armor on. Use explosives, fire arrows, or molotovs to kill these things.
The Armsy also has a blue counterpart, just like the Virginia. It has enhanced attack speed, damage and walks much faster, almost the running speed of the normal Armsy.

Cowman

The cowman is an energetic distorted mutant. Its basic attack will knock you down if you do not keep distance, making you unable to move for several seconds. It can also charge towards you. Hitting you with this charge will knock you onto the ground and do damage, opening up a strike chance for the Cowman’s cannibalistic friends to knock you out to the main menu.
Use molotovs, fire arrows or explosives to kill it. Or all of them, I certainly wouldn’t mind.

Worm

The worm is not really a mutant as much as it is many mutants with an incredible hivemind ability. It has multiple attacks including but not limited to normal swarming, a melee form, flying as well as colliding with the player head-on.

I recommend using an explosive or two to thin them out and then use a hairspray flamethrower to kill the rest.

Defending your home

Building in the Forest is fairly simple. Start off with a foundation, slap some walls and windows on said foundation and then put a roof on it, but that’s not very secure now, is it? I suggest that you start out by adding a set of rock walls in front of your foundation like it is shown in the picture on top. After you’ve done that you could put some “Happy Birthday!” traps around the base and finish up with a Defensive Wall door to be your entrance instead of walking into your own traps and dying. Remember to place the Defensive Wall Reinforcement on the Defensive Wall if there’s space for it, it’s a 45% health increase for the wall. If everything is done right your home will end up looking like the picture below, and you know what? You’ll be free of cannibals destroying your home!

PS: If your house is in a tree covered area, make sure to add Rope Swing Traps to nearby trees as they will make all enemies explode, yes, literally.

Conclusion

Thanks for reading the guide! I hope you can use the strategies against your new foes. Good luck and happy cannibal killing!
