The game is an adaptation of Bill Willingham’s comic book Fables, which comes out in 2002. Comic characters are characters from different fairy tales. Once their world was taken, they had to leave their homes and they got into our reality. They were living in New York in the area Feybltaun – a small area with its own rules, where those characters live fairy tales, which are similar to humans or as they call them – simpletons. Others are forced to live on the farm where they live the rest of legends or buy charms with which you can live among people.
Willingham gives us a look at the other side to the characters of our childhood, which were no longer the way to his tales. Comic strip shows how stories are faced with problems of people, social, and try not to lose their “fabulousness.”
The plot and the positive aspects of the game
But back to the game. The game takes its start around the 80th of the 20th century, as a prequel to the comics. The protagonist, like in the comic – Great Grey Wolf (or as he is called – Bigby), which became the local sheriff, investigates a series of murders of girls. But not ordinary girls, and fabulous. During his investigation, Bigby meets different characters of fairy tales – Woodman, who became an alcoholic and lives the good memories of his past; Snow White, has turned into a severe workaholic, etc. The game is divided into five episodes, and The Walking Dead. Gameplay has suffered a number of changes – instead of lines of dialogue appeared windows of dialogue, action scenes are much more difficult – now to get away with it, you need to press a few buttons instead of 1 or 2. Graphics improved since the first season of The Walking Dead. It also remains in the form of comics, but it makes the game special Telltale. The musical accompaniment is also a bang – composer Jared Emerson-Johnson created the perfect track. At some point, the music plays nuarny, giving shade despair or rage, and during action scenes makes us think that we do not play, and watch some action movie. Also in this game, plus he goes Bigby – Grey Wolf, who became the way of improvement. But even in this way, he has to resort to his wolf side. And the player chooses his own to be – to be honest sheriff who will do anything for the sake of the citizens, or become corrupt cops who will sometimes turn a minor problem.
Something in it is still not enough
But the game has its weak points. Severely affected facial expressions of characters. At a certain point, where emotion is through the roof, from the characters can be given or surprised face or a phrase, such as “On” or “wow.” It feels like what happens to them 2-3 times per day. Sometimes “wows” duration of episodes – one episode can last 1.5-3 hours, and some barely pulled hour (!). The game also may disappoint fans of comics. Characters from the comic book can be counted on the fingers, and many appear sporadically. Basically, Telltale created their characters and took only the most important (Bigby and Snow White)
What is not in the comic
But even this is not important. The key is that Telltale Games upholstered what little in comics – large social gap between social strata tales. Social stories divided into 2 layers – rich and poor. It is mainly the poor, those who have left their own world leaving their wealth at home. Rich, on the contrary, some tricks returned their wealth and are now “oligarchs” Febltauna. The entire game is replete with examples of the different social groups and the player needs to make decisions – be on whose side. In making these decisions, with each episode we see how one or another character refers to Bigby.

Yes, the game has its weaknesses, but what game does not?! New game for the studio became a sort of examination – proof for the players that they can develop in other directions. The Wolf Among Us – dark horse, which was not expected from some success, but it has become a new masterpiece with its own unique detective story and atmosphere nuarny headed by Grey Wolf, awesome characters and no less amazing environment. For lovers of story-games necessarily in the collection.
