How to Lukas: Reference Guide

Overview

Are you someone who knows absolutely nothing about visual novels or an inquiring otaku unaware of some of the works alluded to in Sepia Tears? If you want to try out some of the games for yourself this is it!

Lukas’ posters

The images have been blurred, but they seem to be mostly visual novel covers. I could only recognize 2 so if you happen to know some of the others let me know (I’ll add you as a contributor for your help).

  • G-senjou no Maou – The Devil on G-String
Visual novel from AKABEiSOFT2. This title has been translated into English by Sekai Project. You can buy it on Steam! The game is originally an adult game but the Steam version is all-ages.
  • Kara no Shojo
WARNING: This is an adult game with extremely graphic and gory content, look up at your own risk. Created by Innocent Grey; this murder mystery game is not for the faint of heart. As of recent you can now buy the game on Steam, completely uncensored!
  • Nanao Naru doujinshi
This cover and a few others are all from doujins created by Nanao Naru; a Japanese artist. Besides running her own doujin circle あいすとちょこ (Ice and Chocolate/Aisu to Choko) she has branched out into doing professional work for multiple companies. She has done character designs for the first Da Capo game and Ef: A Fairy Tale of the Two, both translated and available from MangaGamer.

What Lukas was playing

The game shown was Da Capo 2 from Circus. The character in this image is Asakura Yume. You can get this game from the localizer MangaGamer.

Cosplayers

Both of these are characters from legendary doujin group 07th Expansion, a great choice.

  • Furude Rika
From the visual novel series Higurashi: When They Cry. Chapter 1 and 2 can be bought on Steam from MangaGamer. This character is better known in the west from the anime adaptation of the visual novel.
  • Beatrice
Another iconic character, this one from Umineko no Naku Koro ni. You can now play Umineko on Steam, and a fighting game with the characters from the series called Golden Fantasia is on its way!

This game is Rewrite, a game from the legendary Key and VisualArts, creators of CLANNAD. Unlike CLANNAD the game has yet to see an official English release but it has an English patch[amaterasu.tindabox.net].

Miscellaneous

Game Rin plays at school
From all the hints dropped it’s easy to tell the series Rin’s playing. If you’ve just discovered the Internet I welcome you to the world of Touhou. Touhou is a Japanese indie bullet hell game that has spawned an enormous following in Japan and overseas. Althought the games themselves are excellent, its popularity is said to come mostly from the sheer amount of derivative works that have helped it spread. Touhou Wiki[en.touhouwiki.net] has a great listing of places where you can buy the official Touhou and fanmade games.

In Conclusion

If this game has sparked an interest for Japanese games in you I hope you found this guide helpful. And for those not new to the medium I’d like to know if the guide has helped you find something you did not know about. Happy gaming!
Note: A special thanks to the developers for helping me with the section involving Lukas’ room. Follow them on , they’re good peeps.
