Overview
A pictorial guide on how to Hotwire vehicles in Beta Version 41 with tips on how to level up Mechanics and Electrical skills.
Getting started:
Before we get going you’re going to need to know a few things. In order to Hotwire a vehicle you need to have Mechanics level 2 and Electrical level 1. The only other way to Hotwire is if you start out as a Burglar since their class ability allows you to Hotwire right from the getgo. You also need to know the process to getting Mechanics level 2 and Electrical level 1 is a somewhat painful process. It doesn’t take long in the grand scheme of things, but it drags on. It is highly recommended that you read Electrical for Beginners and Mechanics for Beginners. In fact I would more so say it’s mandatory than recommenced.
Electrical:
- Few things to know when leveling Electrical. Always have a screwdriver with you. Always. There are plenty of objects that can be taken apart.
- Every time you kill a zombie check it’s corpse. Does it have a digital watch? Good. Dismantle it. Is there a T.V.? Is there a radio? Is there a lamp? Is there a walkie-talkie? Good. Dismantle them too. Dismantle every electronic you come across. But make sure the area is clear first! Larger objects take longer to dismantle and make noise.
Mechanics:
- Few things to know with Mechanics. This skill is a real pain in the pancakes to level up. How to level it up is very simple; remove parts and add parts. The process of going about this though is what drains your soul. It’s best to have a few cars around you all of which you have the keys to. From my knowledge you can get exp by doing all of the below tactics once a day per vehicle. That is why it’s best to have more than one vehicle around. You will also need to read the vehicle magazines that allows you to work on them. Here is what I found to work best.
- Disclaimer: I tried this tactic with just 3 bulbs once, but I stopped gaining experience after switching out all 3 bulbs. The same bulbs no longer gave me experience no matter how many times I uninstalled and reinstalled them on the same vehicle. This leads me to believe you only get experience once per part you uninstall/install and this goes for all parts. You’re welcome to try it with less bulbs before amassing a large amount.
- First go around collecting light bulbs. Collect them from lamps. Collect them from porch lights. Collect them wherever you find them. You can also dismantle most electronics after taking out the bulb.
- After you have a stockpile of light bulbs head over to your vehicles and pop the hood. What you’re going to want to do is have all of your light bulbs in your backpack. Then you’re going to go to one of the headlights on the vehicle and click uninstall. You’re then going to click install and go all the way down to the bottom bulb on the list. Install that one and your backpack should have one less bulb in it. Now click uninstall and repeat the process clicking on the bottom bulb each time. Repeat the process until all your bulbs have moved from your backpack into your main inventory. Then move onto the next vehicle. The experience isn’t great. The process is mind numbing. But it does rank it up. That is how you get from rank zero to rank one.
- After you have gotten to rank one in mechanics you have another option now. That option is removing seats. The process of this is simple. Uninstall a seat and then reinstall it. Repeat for all seats.
How to hotwire:
- Well if you made it this far congrats! You’re in the home stretch. What you’re going to want to do is get into the driver seat of the vehicle and press V (by default). This should bring up the options menu for the vehicle. Then all you have to do is click Hotwire. If it doesn’t work the first time click it again until it does. A successful Hotwire will have cords coming out of the key ignition on the dashboard.
The end:
Hope this guide was helpful. If it’s too confusing or if you have any tips on how I can better explain it let me know. There are also plenty of ways to go about leveling these skills up. These are just the ways that worked best for me. Don’t feel like you have to only do these specific things.
