No More Room in Hell Guide

Ranking every map in difficulty for No More Room in Hell

Ranking every map in difficulty

Overview

In this guide I will be dividing every map into difficulty categories (Easy, Medium, Hard) and providing a brief or lengthy description of each map depending on how much I have to say about it or how much I know about it. Bear in mind this is my personal opinion and I will be going over objective maps only, and I will be going over only official maps. I count official maps as any map that has an achievement in the game.

Easy

Broadway

One of the OG maps of No More Room in Hell. Broadway overall is a very simplistic and short map, and is definitely in the top 3 easiest maps. The spawn room literally gives you more ammo than you even need to complete the map, and on top of that it gives you a 100% guaranteed machete spawn. The map provides a lot of wide open area for maneuvering with only a few chokepoints here and there, and the map itself is ripe with lots of loot the entire way through.

Lakeside

Another one of the top 3 easiest maps in my opinion. Lakeside is short, provides you with plenty of weapons, ammo, and good melee weapons, and is actually the most beaten map in the game, which gives you a pretty good idea of its difficulty.

Cabin

This is another very short map, but not quite as easy as the other ones in this category. The map is very linear and probably has the least amount of playable area out of all the maps, and the only parts in this map that people could potentially die on are in the front and back yards where hordes of zombies can sometimes block the door and box you in, usually at the front yard, but dying is still pretty unlikely.

Toxteth

Almost no challenge whatsoever. This map has very simple, easy objectives, a ton of wide open areas to maneuver in, infact almost the entire map is wide open area. Not to mention that a certain percentage of the time, a secret room can be opened in the basement which contains several hundreds of pounds worth of weapons and ammunition, making an already incredibly easy map, that much easier.

Chinatown

Probably the most difficult out of all the easy maps, but still not that hard to complete. The only parts in this level that can be challenging to some people is the moderate runner/kid presence in the street after you fuel the generator, the sewer section where there is little room, lots of shamblers, and a few runners, and maybe the end section where there is also a lot of chokepoints. Other than that Chinatown really isn’t that difficult.

Medium

Cleopas

This map is essentially just a harder, longer version of Toxteth with more narrow spaces, more zombies, and way more items to fetch. This map has a very interesting dynamic in the sense that the first half of the map is more linear, and has you going through alleys and such, meanwhile the second half of the map one could say is almost open world. The second half of the map is entirely wide open area, in which you have to go around the entire map fetching a car battery, a can of fuel, and a microphone in order to call for evac, however the evac is blocked off by a locked gate and you have 3 minutes to find a pair of pliers to cut the gate lock. This part was actually made harder in the 1.10 update seeing as before you could just find the pliers and cut the lock before calling for evac, however 1.10 made it so that the pliers don’t spawn in until after evac is called. This part still isn’t that hard due to the fact that the pliers only have 3 possible spawn locations which are marked by green glow sticks, and are all within close proximity to each other.

Junction

Junction is actually a fairly lengthy map and is arguably the most difficult map out of all the official maps (excluding Broadway2 and Suzhou of course). The first half of the map is nothing special, however at the halfway point is probably the most difficult part of the map, which is the entire section in which you have to retrieve the welder, weld open the door, and enter the code into the keypad. This entire section has little room in order to maneuver, it has high shambler density, and a considerable runner presence, all factors combined which make for a fairly difficult section. The sewer section later on is pretty easily doable, seeing as all you really have to do is just run past everything and kite all the runners and kids behind you until you reach the ladder. The sewer section actually used to be more difficult in previous versions of the game due to the fact that you had to carry the key through the sewer as opposed to getting the key at the end of the sewer section, not to mention that the sewer was darker. In terms of the finale, it would be advisable to place the dynamite on the closest pillar last, so that you maximize the amount of time you have to make it to the evac vehicle.

Zephyr

In contrast to some of these other medium maps, Zephyr is actually a very short map, but that doesn’t mean that it’s a walk in the park. To be honest, the only part in this entire map that can be considered difficult is the final part which takes place in the trainyard, which is notorious for its horde of runners and children. A trick a lot of players seem to not know, is that if you’re moving and looking forwards, runners and children will never catch up to you. This trick can be very useful for this final part, considering all you really have to do is hit a few switches and press a few buttons, nothing which really requires you to stop moving. This trainyard part is definitely a noob killer though, lots of times you’ll go into this trainyard part with a full team and before you know it almost everyone has been wiped out. Not to mention that this map has like 7 different gene therapy spawns. Overall, this map really isn’t that difficult if you know what you’re doing.

Brooklyn

Overall there’s really not that much to say about this map, other than that the underground parking lot section has a high shambler density and lots of chokepoints, pushing the cart involves constantly drawing zombies away from it, and that the final area has a considerable shambler density as well. To keep it simple, most of Brooklyn’s difficulty comes from the final third of the map.

Boardwalk

Boardwalk is a pretty unique map in the sense that it’s one of the only maps that is a true medium difficulty map, not difficult for skilled players, but not an absolute breeze for skilled players either. Boardwalk provides very little wide open area, and high runner and child zombie counts in some parts of the map, however the map is very short and can be completed in no time.

FEMA

FEMA is a very unique map in the sense that it’s probably the map with the highest amount of different objective paths, meaning that one person’s playthrough of FEMA can be completely different from someone else’s, however the core gameplay experience is still pretty much the same regardless. The FEMA facility has a lot of tight corridors and the sterilization objective can wipe out a lot of people who may get lost in the facility and are unable to get out, however this doesn’t really matter considering there’s a respawn point literally one objective away following that. But probably the most difficult part of this level is turning the crank to open the specimen gate, which is definitely the part that kills the most amount of noobs each game. The crank cannot be let go of, otherwise the gate will close, however getting through the gate can be tricky due to the fact that sometimes large amounts of shamblers will block the gate, not to mention that there is also a large shambler presence around the crank itself. The rest of the level is pretty much just continuing on while avoiding shamblers. There’s also the diesel pump objective at the end that you have a chance of getting, however that mainly boils down to patience and not difficulty.

Hard

Broadway2

This map is literally the polar opposite of its predecessor, Broadway is one of the easiest maps in the game, and Broadway2 is one of the hardest maps in the game. Most of Broadway2’s difficulty actually comes from the second half of the map, the first half of the map is easily doable. The 2 main hardest parts are the basketball court section, and the process of calling for help and being evacuated. The basketball court section involves fighting off a horde of child zombies, which is actually a pretty easy thing to do if you’re a skilled player, but most noobs will tell you that this is the hardest part of the map, which it really isn’t. The hardest part of the map is the section that stretches all the way from using the gas can to blow open the convenience store, all the way to being extracted. And fun fact, there is actually a really really really really rare objective that involves using a tank to blow open the wall of the convenience store instead of using the gas can, and the reason this objective is so rare is because in order for you to even have any chance of getting this objective, you must first get the sewer objective, which is already a rare enough objective in itself, and then you have to luck out yet again with getting the tank objective, which is another really small chance on top of that. Anyways, the reason this final section of the level is so difficult is first of all, getting into the convenience store to begin with. There is a large group of zombies blocking the entrance, not to mention that there are zombies constantly closing in behind you, which can make it easy for you to get sandwiched if you’re not constantly dealing with the shamblers coming from behind you. The zombies blocking the convenience store entrance can actually be despawned, however it doesn’t always seem to work. The final part that makes this so difficult is making to the evac once you activate the radio. You have a total of 5 minutes to be evacuated upon activating the radio. The game will always require you to head to the roof of a building first, and once you do you get 1 of 2 different objectives, and that is either to head down the fire escape to the train (which is the easy objective), or to head back to the basketball court and board the helicopter. Heading back to the basketball court consumes more time, which can be problematic if you already wasted too much time getting to the roof, not to mention that once the evac arrives, you have 2 minutes before the evac vehicle leaves on top of the 5 minutes that you have to get extracted which you started when activating the radio, which means you have 2 seperate countdown timers going on at the same time. Overall, Broadway2 is a challenging map but no where near the hardest map.

Quarantine

Quarantine I would say maintains a steady stream of difficulty the whole way through, there’s not really any parts that are noticeably more difficult than the others, except for the quarantine gate part which I’ll get to later. The shovel section of the level is nothing special, just a few runners and kids to deal with and that’s all. The sewer section can either be really easy, or not so easy depending on where the key and crank decide to spawn. There have been times where the key and crank spawned literally not even like 8 metres away from each other right in front of where you enter the sewer, and there are other times where they both spawn in the deepest corners of the sewer, which makes them considerably annoying to fetch. There are a considerable amount of runners in the sewer, however there is also a 100% guaranteed machete spawn in the room where you would put the crank, so that just makes it that much easier, not to mention that there is also a free gene therapy once you complete the sewer section. Now the quarantine gate part, this part requires you to turn a crank in order to close a gate, however the gate starts opening again if the crank is let go of. There are many factors that make this part difficult, the fact the gate closes very slowly, the fact that there are lots of shamblers in the area that hinder you from turning the crank, and the fact that child zombies will constantly come through the gate while you’re trying to close it. The finale however is a complete joke, mainly due to the fact that there are several god spots that can be used to easily cheese the finale, not to mention the finale gives you a lot of M16s and ammunition, not that you even really need them.

Suzhou

Suzhou went from being one of the easiest maps in 1.09.7, to being one of the hardest maps in 1.10. Suzhou is another map where pretty much most of it’s difficulty comes from the second half of the map. The first half is nothing special, just navigating some narrow streets with lots of shamblers and runners. Now once you get to the evac station is where things get more difficult, there are hundreds of runners and kids inside the evac station that will be unleashed once you break the boards, and there is a very high amount of shamblers that can quickly overwhelm you due to the small amount of room surrounding the evac station. The finale is very generic in the sense that it just spawns hordes of runners at you, and is very difficult to do without a chainsaw or abrasive saw.

Hard (continued)

I ran out of room for shelter and underground so I had to put them here -_____-

Underground

Easily the longest map out of all the official maps, most of it’s difficulty however comes from its length, and the fact that gene therapies are very scarce and if you get infected it’s pretty much game over. The first tunnel section can be considered difficult due to little space, high amounts of shamblers, and a few runners and kids mixed in, however as long as you have a firearm it’s pretty easy to do. The section where you have to activate the elevator has lots of runners however there’s several guaranteed machete spawns all across the map which eliminates most of the difficulty. The cart section can be pretty difficult if you’re playing solo, however with most things, patience is usually the answer.

Shelter

Shelter is probably my favourite map in the game not including other community maps. Each section of the map provides somewhat of a challenge, the streets you first come across while exiting the spawn building throw a wave of children at you that you have to take out, several different waves of runners (which the map loves to throw at you throughout the level), until you make it underground. This underground section in which you have to open the door with the red key is in my opinion the most difficult part of the level, mainly due to all the chokepoints and shamblers. However it can easily be done if you have the right strategy, not to mention if you stand behind the table inside of the little booth the zombies can’t target you. The sewer section isn’t really that difficult, it just boils down to kill wave of kids, kill wave of runners, then find 3 switches and gtfo. And then right after the map gives you a bunch of med kits to fully replenish your health, comes the finale. The finale used to actually be very difficult in previous versions of the map, however 1.10 made it incredibly easy mainly due to the fact that you no longer have to go through a hard parkour section in order to get the chainsaw, and instead just get the chainsaw for free at the arena. The fuel that comes with it isn’t that much but you most likely will still be able to win with that amount of fuel, and if you carry extra fuel with you throughout the map then you basically have a 100% chance of success. The strategy boils down to boarding up the entrance to the lever room, activating the lever while crouching and staying out of sight the whole time all the while still crouching in order to not be targeted by the zombies, then when the door opens you saw your way out of the lever room, go upstairs and saw your way through the final tunnel chokepoint, go up the ladder and there you go, map complete.
