Overview
In this guide i’ll show you a few tips and tricks on how to obtain the hard melee kill achievements like “Bare Knuckle” or “Blinded by light”
Getting started
If you wish to complete these achievements relatively fast, first thing you should do is find a server with the infinite ammo plug-in. Next, you’ll want to join the ones that dont have that much players, since your kills can be stolen easily. After spawning in the map (survival maps work the best for these types of achievements) you will want to open up the gun menu, and find the flare gun (its under tools) and other few items as medication, and a backup firearm in case you get into some hairy stuff (ex. 5 runners swarming you). After you’re done with that, your inventory should look somewhat like this
How it works and how its done
The reason for getting the flare gun is, that the flare gun basically works as a tool, to help you one hit the ignited zombies with knuckles (or any other weaker melee weapon like flashlight, welder, barricade hammer, etc.)
First thing you should do, is select a flare gun in your inventory, then press H to bring out the knuckles(if you’re going for the “Bare Knuckle” achievement. If not, just select the other weapon you wish to use) . But you may wonder, why this? Well, you should do that, so you can easily switch between those two weapons swiftly, with the Q key, which is the deafult key for the “last selected weapon”
After doing that, you should find yourself some zombies to kill. After shooting a zombie with a flare gun, it will go ablaze. Once that happens, you should swiftly switch the weapon to the desired one with the Q key, and simply one hit it with the light strike. Though, beware, sometimes National Guard zombies (soldiers) require 1-3 hits (i say 3 because some took 3 hits from fists before going down).
You should also be careful about them turning into runners, since igniting zombies sometimes can transfer them into runners. Another thing thats possible with this tactic is to gather a small horde of zombies to be basically one next to each other, and then firing the flare gun at them should ignite up to 2-3 (depends), so you dont have to do 1 at the time.
Most of the time, it looks like this:
Other risky tactics for fists and flashlight
If you do not wish to cheat the achievements with the infinite ammo/stamina, there are few tricks i can show you, to lessen the pain and the spent time.
So, again, the flare gun tactic doesnt really work if you dont have infinite ammo, since flares are rare to find (kinda). So to replace that, you can either use the prop fires as your tool, or a molotov.
Prop fires? Whats that?
Those are the fires that are the part of the map, and can do damage to the player, and zombies alike (aka ignites the zombies). The best one for this kind of thing, in my opinion is the one near the spawn at the survival map called Campblood.(Its near the spawn to the left, you cant miss it)
Some zombies spawn pretty near it, and you can stand close to the fire and lure them to it, so they will walk over it and ignite themselves, or you could just simply push them into it, then basically just striking them once or twice with the chosen weapon should do the trick.
But what if you dont want to use fire every time? Well, its quite simple. Before you start ramming yourself into random walkers and start punching them until they die (it takes a while), you should instead target the child zombies and crawlers. Why? Because they have less health.
The children are kinda risky to do if you’re playing without the infinite ammo, or alone, since their hitboxes tend to be quite broken. Sometimes it takes 2-3 quick punches to finish of the child zombie, and that’s if the game decides not to be gay and just ignore the fact that you hit the hitbox properly. (you can also ignite them in the same way like casual zombies, but its harder to do)
The crawlers, on the other hand, are easy prey. Most of the time (like 80%) you will be able to blow their head open with the single light strike (National Guard crawlers sometimes take 2).
Results
After multiple hours of using this tactic, you should make a great progress with the achievements.
Also do know when to run and avoid conflict if there are too many runners present, so keep your backup weapon handy, and you could do all these without even dying. (I did flashlight and knuckles without dying once)
