Strategies
When playing medic, you are purely a support role, which means that combat should be the last thing on your mind. So when choosing either a high kill game to impress your friends or saving a fellow soldier, you should choose the latter. I know its not as easy as to just avoid combat, but even if you had the chance, you at best have a carbine with two magazines and a sidearm that is useless outside of ten meters. One way to sooth the urges of trying to get “high kill games” is to use the corpsman or sanitater loadouts, since you only have a sidearm. The only time you should be taking out your sidearm is to defend a fallen comrade that you are about to revive from the enemy team.
Highlights:
– Only use weapons to defend wounded
– Avoid going for kills
– Save as many wounded as possible
– Consider using only sidearms in loadouts
Mechanics
The most helpful and damning things in Hell Let Loose for medics are the game mechanics. Some will help you save more lives, and some won’t. First, lets talk about the positives. Voice chat is the most important mechanic, period. No medics want to run across the hellfire of battle to get to a wounded man who gives up and rejects your revive. The way to prevent this tragedy from happening is talking in the local or squad chat. I usually say “DOn’t die on ME BRO” or even a simple “I can revive you” will work, but some men just want to die and it won’t matter what you tell them. Another important mechanic is the crouch and prone options. These mechanics prevent you from taking a brisk stroll into bullets to save a man. Although it might seem painstakingly slow to crawl across a field, you have and hour to play the game, and your focus should be saving people. Finally, we cover the negatives. This may not be a mechanic, but the culture of war simulation games always target medics. This understandable though since one or two medics can change the tide of a match. But watch out for snipers, because they would love to get another notch on their rifle.
Highlights:
– Talk to wounded and tell them you are reviving them or going to
– Use crouch and prone mechanics to your advantage
– Watch for smug players that love to murder hard working medics
Movement across the battlefield
When maneuvering across the hellscape that is called the battlefield, you should be mindful of your surroundings and movements. If and when you attempt to save a wounded man, you don’t want to immediately sprint at them. This is because the enemy who injured the soldier will still be in the area, and will probably kill you. Although you may think that dying is not biggie, but first, you aren’t on the ground saving anyone when waiting to respawn, and second, other soldiers will easily runout of bandages when pushing towards and objective. To avoid this, you will want to either move to cover and throw smokes, shielding your advance, or asking fellow soldiers to lay down suppressive fire to make the enemies duck down. Although there are other strategies that can sometimes work just as well, those are the easiest and can also benefit the team in other ways.
Highlights:
– be smart about movements
– coordinate with team to push towards wounded
– use smokes to your advantage
Overview
Overall, you should recognize your presence on the battlefield is just as important as your NCOs presence. This guide is a collection of my time playing medic in Hell Let Loose. The most important thing though is also finding your own strategies, since they will have the best chance of your person success. And don’t forget comrades, watch out for those snipers.
