Overview
A guide on making the downloadable content of Mirror’s Edge work with a Steam version of Mirror’s Edge. This guide requires access to a Origin or Disc copy of Mirror’s Edge.
Requirements
To be able to install the Pure Time Trial content without resorting to map replacement trickery you’ll need the following:
- Steam & Origin
- Mirror’s Edge on Steam
- Mirror’s Edge on either Origin or Physical disc*
- Mirror’s Edge Pure Time Trial on Origin
- Roughly 20 Gb of free space**
If you do not own Mirror’s Edge on either Origin or Physical disc you could try to borrow a copy or purchase a key for a relative small sum from a website such as: Kinguin[www.kinguin.net]
*This is because both of these versions use SecuROM (the Steam version does not). The installer for the Pure Time Trial bought on Origin requires a version of Mirror’s Edge with SecuROM.
**Only temporarily. The final install is roughly 6 Gb in size.
Back-up
Since we need to uninstall all versions of Mirror’s Edge for the next section of the guide it is perhaps desirable to back-up either our whole Mirror’s Edge client or the associated save data. If you do not want to do this, please skip forward to the installation section of this guide!
To back-up your whole Mirror’s Edge client in Steam you need to go to Library > All Games > Mirror’s Edge.
Right Click on Mirror’s Edge > Properties followed by Local Data > Back-up Client. Where you can select either Compact Disc or Digital Video Disc as your back-up media, choose DVD (You’ll only need one file, rather than seven with CD). Choose a location to store your back-up and wait till it finishes.
To be added later today. Wrote this on the go.
Installation
In order to prevent conflicts in the installation process we need to uninstall every instance of Mirror’s Edge. It is highly likely that the Pure Time Trial installer will fail due to various errors if we do not do this.
- To remove the Steam version go to:
Library > All Games > Mirror’s Edge > Properties > Delete Local Content - To remove the Origin version go to:
EA Games Folder > Mirror’s Edge > Delete - To remove the Disc version go to:
Configuration Screen > Software > Mirror’s Edge > Remove / Uninstall
After this we install Mirror’s Edge via Origin or Physical disc and apply the Pure Time Trial pack to this installation to this install. It doesn’t particularly matter where, as long as Origin can find the folder, so the EA Games folder would make sense.
Once this process is complete. We copy the whole folder to a temporary place, the desktop for example.
Now we either restore the back-up we made of our Steam installation or re-download it. Upon completion we browse to Steam Folder > Appdata > Mirror’s Edge and copy the content of our (desktop) Origin install into the Mirror’s Edge folder. Overwrite anything it asks for (It’ll ask this, if it does not you are copying into the wrong folder).
When next you launch Mirror’s Edge in Steam you should have all the Pure Time Trial content there.
From here on we can remove the copy of our Origin install from both the desktop and EA Games folder manually. Deinstalling by way of the Configuration Screen can break our Steam version, so that isn’t advised.
Enjoy!
