Hostile factions and enemies and how to deal with them

Overview

The Division enemies and fraction info and how to effectively attack them.

Faction difficulty

First of all , here is the difficulty of the fraction (AKA how quickly and effective they will kill you )
Last Man Battalion (LMB) > Rogue lev 25-30 Agents > Rikers > Cleaners > Rioters

Secondly , apart from the basic foot soldiers , snipers ,engineers and rushers, all the other enemy => grenadier , Heavy machinegunner , Elite and sweepers have a few weakspots on them.

enemy types and weakness

Grenadiers (G)-G Rioters’ backpack , G Riker and G Cleaners’ sides and G LMBs’ cylinders , backpack and (for certain number of them ) sides , since they don’t use grenades , but grenade launchers instead . Shoot those spots for 1 to 3 times and enjoy the fireworks. Or you could shoot their face just as they are about to toss the grenades/molotovs (does not work for LMB) which will cause them to drop the grenades/molotov cocktail on the group , blowing themselves and their pals up. Side note – Rioters use tear gas , which will make the affected Agents’ movement to seems drunk (not walking or running straight) , with no damage , Cleaners uses incendiary grenades which will engulf the Agents in flames could he or she did not get out of the blast radius in time ,their flame will stay on for several seconds , before extinguish by themselves . Riker and LMBs uses actual grenades , and all Agents could tread with extreme caution as one well placed throw could down an entire team of Agent , and should one be lucky enough to survive the blast , there will be a 50% chance he or she will have the “bleeding” effect placed on them for 5 seconds.

Heavy machinegunner (H) – H Rioters – the entire backpack , H rikers and H LMB – the cute little red box on their backpack . Shoot them 3 to 5 times and let the firecrackers go. Be careful though , as the H rikers and H LMB can also toss grenades to flush Agents out of cover to get shredded by their weapons , stop them by shoot the hand or the face to let them have a taste of their own medicine . (Side note , if you are a lone wolf , and had died AFTER you had shot the ammo box on the back of the riker or LMB ,during certain missions , the gunner will restore to full health upon your respawn , MINUS the ammo box on their back)

Engineer (EN) for Cleaner and LMB only . Those are the armored unit that could set up mini turrets to provide suppressing fire while their team mate advances . They have the ‘ability’ to repair their own turret to keep them operational , Agents could try to damage the turret the engineer set up and lure them out of their cover to repair their turret . When the engineer dies , their turrets will self-destruct seconds later.

Elite AKA purple-HP-and-armored-guys and/or the big guns (E)-E Rioter – generally those are the heavy gunners , shoot the backpack and the head while they are reloading after they unleash the lead shower on you , or you could try not even giving them a chance of mounting their LMG/HMG by pining them with your own LMGs and let a fellow Agent flank them with a Vector ,Double barrel or a semi-auto sniper rifle.E Cleaner – those guys dressed in huge ballistic armor and carries several gas/napalm tanks on their back and are armed with a ‘medium ranged’ flamethrower . Do not let their size or their weapon fool you , as the slow and steady Elite could actually sprint right up to you and toast you in 5 seconds , from 25m away. The best tactic is to kill his bodyguards first as Cleaner Sweepers and rushers could be a huge problem (blocking the way , chewing your health away etc) , then use a scoped weapon (or any weapon that you are fairly familiar with and have decent damage and are of a higher level than the Elite) and try to aim and shoot all the gas tanks on the big guy’s back. Also , never have a straight line distance with them ,always stay at a higher point than those guys as you might never know when you might walk into his range , use the window of opportunity to shoot the tanks when they are reloading and the explosion caused should and would have taken out most of his health. E Rikers – surprisingly , most of the ‘boss’ of the riker factions are almost like the rioters (apart from the HMG guys) as those guys are the normal sized one , and are armed with a SMG and flashgrenades . Their combat role seems more of a support than an assault unit. Best way to deal with them ? Stay in cover , take potshots with your sniper rifle when they are reloading , shoot their hands or head when they are going to toss the flash bang , and rush in with shotgun after they got stunned by the grenade. Or you could just shoot the backpack of grenades (which would only take out his armor) and followed up by multiple headshots.E LMB – Came in various types since in the level 25 to 30 areas , almost all the LMBS are armored and Agents should always keep them in your sights by using the pulse skill as they can and will flank you with shotgunner . Do not ever engage them in open spaces as (since every agents had already know about the bullet sponge thing about the enemy ) their armor could take multiple headshots to be worn off .It is best to tackle them as a team of four with each member of the team be assigned with different task such as a distraction (shield) , medic (to heal ,obviously) , marksman (stay far , and aim for the helmets) and Flanker (only useful when 4v2 or 4v1 )

Weaknesses , as drawn in the offical artbook

ok . I have the artbook , and , due the copyright issue blab blab blab ….(can’t show all the pages can I ?) , here are the weaknesses of various hard-hitters

Rioter grenadier

the backpack (see the molotovs on the female rioter dressed in blue? she is the ‘yellow elite’ ones )

Rioter MG

the red ammo box , pretty obvious huh ? Or , as one riker member has stated “aim at the orange circles ! “, how about we just aim at the red things ? Shoot that and he will start dancing.

Cleaner sweeper

the gas tank (note , in the artbook , it is colored in er…. gray , but in game , it is colored in red , for obvious reason ) . However , high leveled ones will still survive after busting the tank , so , as I had stated above . as he is screaming in fear . shoot him in the face once .

Cleaner grenadier

look at where his hand is (not the one with the pistol) (colored red in game) , shoot that off , and he will be ignited like the faction he stood for , but watch out for the elite ones , as when these gas grenades goes off , even in the bag , they will cover a small radius with poisioness gas , and we all know what will happen if we stepped into it , for as short as a couple of seconds

Cleaner Heavy

quite messy if you asked me , where to shoot ? 2 tanks on the back , and 1 at the front , however , due to the fact that they are the heavies (or tanks) , busting the tank could (or should) only take out the armor , so don’t get too happy when you ignites his tanks.

Riker grenadier

Grenade pouch strapped to the legs , in game color in red , but , don’t get too far as the elites can still toss one right in your face 50 to 100 m away , while you can’t really hit the small pouches that far without a steady hand and a sniper ,or too close , as you don’t want to be taken out with him

Riker MG
err , the image in the artbook shows only his front , so , decided not to post it here.
Same treatment as the rioter ones

LMB grenadier

not clearly shown , but there is only a small box of GL rounds strapped to his rig , shot that off , and pray that he goes down.

LMB Gunner (with/without shield)

ammo boxes , yes , boxes on the back , shot that and he will dance. on some occasion (maybe it is just my side , as , my connection is really bad) , shotguns , ARs , SMGs and even SRs could shoot through the shield , but , I won’t really recommend it…..

Rioters

Ok , lets talk about the Fraction
Rioters – your basic ‘everyday’ street hooligans ,harassers ,street thugs and muggers, they are the first enemy type you , the agent will encounter after your activation , as the story progresses , the rioters you encountered will be of higher level, armed with better weapon (mainly pistols and SMGs) and had (ridiculously ) higher health that will take a lot more headshots to kill with a low level weapon. The basic foot soldiers are armed with basic sidearms and sub-machine guns and the Rushers are armed with only a baseball bat . On the surface they won’t be much of a trouble as the standard rioters will go down with a single well placed headshot from a high level sniper rifle ,and the only problem is , they hardly came solo , use covers well in higher level or ‘hard’ zones . As for the lower leveled zones , don’t worry , they can hardly scratch you once you are over 20 level and you can basically one shot them or one shove them if you are the rusher type.

Faction Tactics – unclear/none
Faction Difficulty – low , even on higher level
Faction uniform – Hoodie – Red and Blue (common and rusher), Yellow (G), Green (E), White (E,HMG ,LMG)
Faction weapon – Pistol , SMGs ,Baseball bat , Tear gas grenade (G) , HMG (H) ,Sniper rifle
Faction signature/territory mark – graffiti

Cleaners

Cleaners – The Cleaners are former New York City sanitation workers such as garbage men, janitors, custodians who lost everything during the outbreak. Formed by Joe Ferro , they are convinced that the only way to save the city from the virus is to burn everything down, including the people still living in it. This is (usually) the second enemy faction the Agents should encounter and can be quite a headache for the shotgun-type of Agents . The Cleaner Foot soldiers – the Sweepers are armed with shotguns and assault rifles taped to a makeshift flamethrower .They will engage the Agents with bullets from afar and will try to flank covered Agents and use their flamethrower to roast them. Also , this faction’s rusher unit are armed with police riot shield AND a fire axe. The Sweepers have a weak point – their napalm/Oxygen tank ,time your shots well and the sweeper could make a good grenade. As for the rusher, for the shotgun-fav Agents , you could pump two rounds from the double barrel just as the rusher are just about to slash you , or if you are the sniper/accuracy sided Agents , you would have noticed this by now – as the rushers are rushing , their head is exposed , a few well placed shots and they will go down. Side notes – /the Sweeper and the Boss’s flamethrower goes through metal grail ,certain thin covers . /The cleaners are all suited in heat resistant suits ,but are not fireproof , which means that although they had higher flame based damage resistances ,they will still caught fire when they got friendly fired by their grenadiers pales or their Boss’ flame blast (and be disabled for a short while before being cooked)

Faction Tactics – Flanking , anti cover , anti close quarter
Faction Difficulty – medium to high
Faction uniform – Reflector suit , gas mask , gas tank , fire fighter gear , hazmat suit (G) Faction weapon -Assault rifle and shotgun taped up with a makeshift flamethrower , fireman’s axe , Military grade flamethrower (E) , incendiary bomb (G) , Sniper rifle mini turret
Faction signature/territory mark – burning mass , garbage/trash truck , trails of smoke

Special Cleaner – Sweepers at Dragon’s nest (only encountered at the ‘fire’ truck boss phrase)- these sweepers are basically the rushers , without the shields , and are armed with firearms. It is way more safer around them than the standard sweepers as they cannot burn you with their flamethrowers

Rikers

Rikers – escaped convicts from Riker’s island , those guys are hardened criminals that had or have faced the harsh and battered prison life and seek revenge on any uniformed unit (JTF , SHD , LMB ) as well as start wars with other enemy factions. Some of them can even be spotted dealing weapons with rioters. Those guys are encountered with their level being at least 15 , and their rusher unit is the biggest headache of them all as they had decent speed and damage , and could down an entire team in a few seconds on higher level , or even 1 shot unexpected Agents in the Dark Zone . The Rikers are all armed with police graded and military graded weapon since they are escapees of the prison and could deal huge amount of damages in short bust (assault rifle ,LMG,HMG) and well placed shots (shotgun and sniper) . Always stay in cover and take out the rusher and the snipes first , before moving out to the grenadier then to the foot soldier , and to the heavy.Side note – DON’T EVER GOT CLOSE TO THE RUNNERS.

Faction Tactics – Flanking , Group rush , anti cover
Faction Difficulty – Medium to high
Faction Uniform – Yellow prison jumpsuit , police jacket , riot gear (G) , hoodie (sniper , E )
Faction weapon – Police assault rifle , police riot shotgun , frag grenade (G) , LMG (H , E) , Sniper rifle .
Faction signature/territory mark – yellow cross graffiti , loud music

LMB

LMB (I call them LAst Man Battalion , lamb) The LMB was hired by prestigious Wall Street companies to protect assets during the outbreak, but were abandoned when the crisis worsened. Now they aim to retake New York and establish a new world order by force. They are the last faction the Agents will encounter , and being the last , it also means they are the hardest faction. The LMBs would provide cover fire for their teammates to advance , and would sometimes use grenades to flush Agents out ,also , all of the LMB will attempt to flank the Agents when engaged. As for the dark zone , never engage the LMBs alone as some of them are level 31 and above .All of the LMBs are armed with military grade weapons and could chew through all type of armor and health instantly as seen in multiple skirmish with other faction (1 LMB sniper killed a H riker with 5 shots).LMB also have medic , whose symbol is a red cross on the head , and being a medic means the unit could heal friendly unit . Always take out the rusher first , then move on to the sniper , then the medic and engineer , then to the gunner and common. The icing of the armored cake ? The final boss of the Faction is unlike all the other factions’ (Simple riflewoman – Riker , Heavy Flammer – Cleaner ) , it is a gunship, give it all you got , and you will receive multiple purple graded weapon upon his defeat. Side note – Certain LMB heavies are also equipped with shields. DARK ZONE side note – don not dress like them in the dark zone , you could lure other agents into shooting you.

Faction Tactics – Flanking , Group rush , Run-and-gun , Tanking ,Suppressing fire
Faction Difficulty -High to extremely high
Faction Uniform – White military fatigue , combat hoodie , tactical skirt ,ballistic armor , balaclava
Faction weapon – Military grade assault weapon , Military semi-auto shotgun ,Military grade bolt action sniper rifle , Grenade launcher , turret , flashbang , grenades ,HMG , LMG ,military gunship.
Faction signature/territory mark – LMB flag (a sheep/lamb skull) , military vehicles , LMB checkpoints

Wolves of Survival mode

So , we all know the meaning of taking an Ad to the face now huh ? (intro cutscene) , the halo that carried you crashed crashed , you fall out of the chopper , broke your hazmat suit’s respirator , and , you must survive the storm and extract back to the base , alive.

Imaging you had successfully shoot your way out of the storm , out of the hordes of enemies, and had finally used the flare you that you’d crafted to signal the chopper to pick you up , only to discover your HUD suddenly begin to glitch , no , it is not ISAC’s fault , it can only mean one thing , the hunters are here , are here for you and all the other agents , rouge or not.

Basic overview of the hunters

Faction – unknown (I don’t want to know either)
Danger level -Extreme (and brutal)
Rank – Elite (yellow)
Armor – nil (gladly )
Weapon – various
Special abilities – SHD skills , including healing stations and first aid

Author ‘s comment
So, as far as I am concern , I don’t like these guys , even the LMB shotty are ‘peaceful’ in comparison with them. First of all , they are basically rouge agents from the dark zone , controlled by AI . They can dodge your shots and grenades by rolling (like rogues ) , they can use skills against you or for themselves (like rouges ) , and they even have 3 medi-kits (like rogues ) ,they even use different weapons based on different weapons based on range (like most rogues , sniper from far , shotgun in the face ) . They are the literal wolves of the survival mode (even their health icon is a wolf….) that will stop at nothing to cut you down before axing your head open .

How to deal with them then ?
Simple really, the best solution is to fight a wolf as a wolf – be a lone wolf , extract yourself and yourself only . Since the number of hunters will be based on the number of agents that are extracting , 1 agent means 1 hunter , 4 means 4. Of cause , due to the (very likely ) chance of the other 3 agents being leeches , who won’t do anything thing to protect themselves and would use you as a shield , it would seems very unfair for a 1 vs 4 match , no ?
So , extract either just yourselves , or , with a team that you trust that will defend themselves as well as their teammates well ,(more hunter killed = more survival exp = more cache = higher risk ). And , of cause , this is to go without saying , use cover , at all times . Focus your fire on the one that is closest to you , and since the hunters are just like the agents , who have no armor (aka no sponges ) , mow him down before he could get into hugging distance and give you the hug of death. Otherwise , you could actually use the same method as your team would do during LMB incursion -draw fire , distract and shoot them in the back , but due to the fact that it is in survival mode ,this method , proven by me , is mostly likely results in you getting shot and die……

Alright , so , if there is only 1 hunter , it would be much more simpler as it is only 1 vs 1 ,focus your fire on him , and roll away to a further distance as he is first-aiding (first aid shot/ med kit ) , before fire on him again , repeat the process 3 times , until he is out of healing kits , or wait unit his skills are on cool down . Use this grace period , don’t hesitate , shoot him as he can’t regen his health , kill him , and problem solved.

However ,if the hunter is using sticky bombs and rollers , it would be wise to keep on rolling while stitching him as , we all know what will happen if a sticky was shot in our face…… . On the other hand , rollers , based on my own experiences from Dragon’s nest and survival mode , if you think he is deploying the mine , keep your sights on him , shoot the mine as soon as it rolls out , doing so could remove the mine and damage the hunter at the same time. As for the turret using ones , I.HATE.THEM , their turret is basically the 1.0 version of the boss suppressing turret , and the boss is you. Shoot the turret as soon as it is on the floor , and blow it up as soon as possible.

The best offensive skill against the hunters is the sticky mines as , these guys can hack your turret , and for the roller mines, the hunters could send out EMP pulse , stopping your mine in its track. The sticky mine , on the other hand , you could simply shot the mine in his face, wait for the safety time , and detonate , taking a chunk of his health (of cause you got to quick as he can just toss it away…)

Agents who encountered the hunters should just treat them like rogue agents , which , could have its own benefits as they could act it as a drill (in cause the agents face them in the dark zone), use as much field knowledges as possible , kill them , and survive .
See you back at the base agent .

Legendary Difficulty (LMB Reworked )

legendary difficulty (LMB Reworked )

See the little shield icons next to their health ? Yes ? Well , that means they are the bullet sponges……
In Legendary difficulty , the LMB are the only guys you will be fighting , and , of cause, this difficulty won’t be called ‘legendary’ if the basic troop could be killed with just 2 head shots ,yes ?

In this mode , all the LMB troopers had received some new gears and a huge buff (or puff) to your health and armor . Also , in this mode , you will encounter both the Spec-op variant (black helmet with NVG , armed with flashbang for the gunner , white hooded shotgunner with shock grenade ,medic with gas mask that deploy healing station , MG gunner with shields ) and the normal variant of the gunner ,medic, scout and machine gunner .

First thing first , unless you are these top aces in the agency , do not even dream of going solo in this difficulty , everyone could kill you in 3 seconds flat if you let them flank you . Even in a 256 team , excellent team cooperation is required .
Secondly , this is legendary , not challenge , heroic or hard mission , by that , I mean that this tactic which I love to use – lone star set , and armed with 1 lmg , 1 double barrel shotgun , 1 sawn off , run right in the face the the LMB , and let loose the buckshots , will never work (or, hardly work ) as anyone could down you in one , yes , ONE melee swipe , and due to the increased number of scout spawns , running into a horde of level 34 shotgunners means suicide .
Thirdly , try your best not to die , as , well ,each mission only got 1 checkpoint , at the mid-point of the level , and by dying at the boss fight (Especially the napalm production site ‘s 4 rogue boss fight , where the building will begin to detonate from the inside out as the number of rouge decrease ) , means the team had to repeat the mission from the middle of it , and it is really nerve wrenching to do all the things again…
Lastly , use sticky and healing station as much as possible (that goes without saying , other skills as well ) , don’t even wait . If you think you are the last guy standing , , immediately activate your ‘T’ (heal the team damn it !) . By doing so ,you could have a chance of turning the table on the LMBs ( if your team is skilled enough).

Other minor things for the missions

Napalm production site – this mission have a huge number of LMG gunners with shield as well as grenadiers during the defensive phrase ( blow up the napalm truck ), and during the boss fight (where you fight Joe ) against the 4 agents , with each agent you killed , the building will began to explode bit by bit , so use your immunitor station .

Times Square – this mission have a serious population error with the shotgunner and sniper , right at the start of the mission……( Imagine the surprise my team and I had ……) . And , during the final phrase , there will be a bullet proof LMG gunner , yes , he is completely bullet proof from the front , and the only way to kill him (not damage) is to blow up the ammo box behind him . I recommend the team to just circle around him , killing the rest of his squad , before killing him , as there will be snipers and a sniper boss (2 shot killing shot ) , as well as a couple of healing station medic and shotgunners with shock grenades .

Power plant – not much changes (apart from the Rikers being replaced by LMB ) , the only problem is the fact that the shotgunners could easily wipe the team out due to the narrow interior of the power plant , as well as the fact that there are a lot of first wave rogues , who , by now we should all know , could use EMP pulse to disable your life station…..

Survive the LAMBS agents , see you back at the base with your new gears !
