Overview
Tired of being bullied by sharks constantly? Want payback and revenge for countless amount of times reloading the game to avoid getting killed? Well this guide not only helps you avoid and survive them, this guide will help you HUNT them as well! Make those damn fish pay for all of the pain you’ve been!
Avoiding and Surviving basics.
Ever tried to reach that one island, only to be stopped by a shark or two and kept dying and dying trying to get rid of them? If so, let me teach you a few basic things to avoid them and survive their attacks.
All you will need are the following:
- A crude or standard axe
- Fish bait (Cod or Bass are the only baits of them game)
- A bandage
- Morphine
- Good supply of water and food
- Patience
Why water and food? Cuz it’s gonna be a looong time…
Bandages and morphine are for bleeding and broken bones, respectively, since sharks can inflict both even simultaneously! The bait can be used to attract sharks to the bait and completely ignore you! Since there are 3 sharks, one of them is passive while the other two are aggresive.
Anyways, whenever you encounter a shark during an expedition or a dive, you will need to stay calm and (if you’re ever underwater) reach the ocean surface. Maintain constant eye contact with the shark. If there’s more than one shark, shuffle your view between them. As you’re doing so, reach to your raft (if in the water) and/or swim to the nearest beach. Remember, even in shallowy water, the sharks can still attack you and probably glitch through the island. But if you’re far from any islands, stay CROUCHED in your raft (is more effective in life raft) and maintain eye contact. If you don’t the sharks will start bumping into the raft and flick their tail to knock you off the raft. When this happens, either swim to the raft or prepare for a risky combat. Don’t be affraid to use bait!
Remember that the two shark species can attack you and have different behavior.
BlackTip reef sharks.
These guys are most passive sharks and will not attack players. They drop 2 shark meat and are found in slightly deeper water, mostly shallows, along the reef. They will flee if they spot the player, so keep up with them! Remember, lshift is default sprint so use it!
Tiger sharks.
These are the most common species, apart the passive BlackTail reef shark. These guys have 200 points of health but are more inquisitive and fast than the Great White. They are found in shallow ocean biomes such as Islands, Sand Plains (flat ocean floor) and Shallows (around the coast line). They love getting up close and personal, sometimes too close. When tigers (and great whites alike) bite the player, there is at least 40% chance that the shark will drag the player and often cause bleeding or bone break. The chances are higher if the players is near drowning (Please Verify)
These sharks tend to nibble or bump the sides of the raft.
When low on health, they tend to flee the area and attack when the player lowers their guard. Use this chance to go back to the raft/beach and make yourself vulnerable, in which they will come back. Sometimes they do, sometime they don’t. Contrary to popular belief, the spear is not the best thing to use to kill sharks. Axes are better for this. Once they get close again, land a few blows until the shark sinks, ultimately dying. Drag the shark to the beach and hit 4 more times with the axe for some good, quality meat! They will give you 4 pieces of meat that restore 8 points of hunger! But the fins give you only 3.
It takes 14 hits with a crude axe to kill it.
The Mighty Great White Shark.
These sharks are the biggest and the meanest of them all! They spawn with 350 health and are found in deep ocean biomes like Deep Sea and Barren. They can also be found around buoys. They are slower than Tiger Sharks but grow agile and draw closer as the likelihood of an attack rises. Beware as they can travel in groups of up to 2-3 or more sharks so careful! Unlike the tiger shark, these attack from below, eventually flipping your raft either accidentally or from aggravation!. They also give 4 shark meat when butchered. It is HIGHLY adviced to stay clear from these sharks, as sometimes the direct eye contact MAY NOT work well. They may have the capability to insta-kill you, although it’s random at times. *I was killed recently by it…. Whenever encountered on the shallows (in your island), the combat is the same as fighting Tigers, only a bit tougher and show no signs of weakness. It takes 24 hits to kill with an axe.
Blue Marlin
As promised, here’s some great info about the marlin. I just recently encountered one and barely made it. They are found in Deep See biomes or near buoys, sometimes with great whites. Now, according to the save files, they have 125 health, making them the most fragile hostile creature in the game as of now. Marlin will charge you and attempt to slash your character with their long bill, causing serious bleeding. They will also try to turn over your rafts by ramming it. Not only that, they’re also REALLY fast, able to catch up with a motorized raft, let alone ram it, in seconds! Now, having the lowest amount of health, they aren’t that easy to kill due to their agility and high damage. I managed to kill one, and managed to recover the corpse (FINALLY). It will give 3 shark meat fillet, now multiply 3 x 8 and you get 24 hunger bars! Apperantly, sometimes they won’t attack you but follow you instead… It could be an AI error or on-purpose behavior. While it may seem strange, if you’d look at the seventh comment, you’ll see the report at it’s fullest.
The Megalodon… a myth… a lie.
According to one of the comments, there is a sighting of a large, green shark near the UFO/USO… It appears to be larger than the Great White. Since there’s no visual evidence, I will need some help to verify that. I will need all the evidence we can get, so hop to it if you want to be credited.
If you don’t know what a Megalodon shark is, a megalodon shark is one of the largest sharks in the world, if it wasn’t extinct. Not many fossils have been recorded, but there were teeth found on beaches that are bigger than a common great white. They lived approximately 15.9 to 2.6 million years ago, during the Cenozoic Era (middle Miocene to end of Pliocene).
The taxonomic assignment of C. megalodon has been debated for nearly a century, and is still under dispute. The two major interpretations are Carcharodon megalodon (under family Lamnidae) or Carcharocles megalodon (under the family Otodontidae). Consequently, the scientific name of this species is commonly abbreviated C. megalodon in the literature.
C. megalodon is regarded as one of the largest and most powerful predators in vertebrate history, and likely had a profound impact on the structure of marine communities. Fossil remains suggest that this giant shark reached a maximum length of 18 metres (59 ft), and also affirm that it had a cosmopolitan distribution. Scientists suggest that C. megalodon looked like a stockier version of the great white shark, Carcharodon carcharias.
Unfortunately, there are evidence that the megalodon is not real, even in virtual worlds. A big shout out for those who help me with the finding of the megalodon.
Shark Attacks or Death Grips.
This is an event that occurs when an agro shark attacks the player and plays a small animation. Sometimes during this animation, if the players has a weapon out, he can score a few hits on the shark to weaken or kill it. This won’t save you from bleeding, though. As you can bleed as soon as the animation starts. This event also leaves a blood trail in the ocean and, obviously, attracts many, many sharks. It is called a Death Grip if the player dies during the animation or if attacked by the Great White, resulting in an instant death. Remember to dodge by changing direcctions sharply, but careful because sharks can turn sharply as well, just not as fast than you.

4. If you haven’t notice yet, one of the strings in the update section mentions the founding of human male bones, dubbed Tomicus Hanksinae. This is base on the movie actor Tom Hanks. Also, there are no bones or skeletons to that matter in the game, at all.
