Overview
[Outdated] Want to play with some cool new contraptions? Not afraid of a few bugs? Then come on in!
Intro
Hey guys. Either you’ve come across this by accident or you have been looking for a way to get all that neat stuff you’ve probably seen on the community screenshots and wondered why it isn’t in your game as well. Well, wonder no more.
As you probably know this game is in Early Access. In other words, it isn’t done yet. As the devs work out the kinks in the new stuff they’ll farm it out to the experimental build for us buyers who might not be so worried about bugs to test and report back.
There are both upsides and downsides to this. On the one hand, you’ll be getting stuff that the devs have literally just finished into your game, and will allow you to play with a more flushed out tool set. The disadvantage is, of course, you have to deal with the bugs. Whether you experience them will largely depend on luck, as well as what you doing, but I’d hazard a guess that at least most of you will hit a game breaking bug at least once if you’re playing in experimental mode.

Now with that out of the way, let’s get you up and running!
How to:
- So the first thing you’ll want to do is boot up Steam (if you havn’t already), and turn off Subnautica if you’re playing it.
- Next, find Subnautica in your library.
- Right-click on it.
- Select “Properties“.
- Switch to the “Betas” tab, and select “experimental -” in the drop-down menu.
The game will now download new files which will allow you to play the game as normal. The new stuff will automatically be in the game.
I would advise starting a new game. When I first did this the game was completely broken and I had to start a new game anyway. Save yourself the trouble.
You can try your luck anyway however.
Note: If the ‘experimental’ option does not appear for you, simply
verify the Integrity of Game Cache in the properties menu.
This should make it appear again.
