Overview
This will be a guide on how to be a good leader in Meadow. From my experiences, this is probably the best you can get. In this guide there will be tips, good grammer/punctuation, and sections for every main tip.Being a leader isn’t easy, but hopefully this helps.
What exactly does it mean to be a Leader?
What exactly does it mean? Being a leader? When you are the leader of a pack/herd/flock, that means that the group going to follow you. You are the one guiding them along the way to victory (treasure, really)! But being a leader can be tough if you don’t know what you’re doing. You need to know where you’re going, what locations are where, how basic mechanics work, you need to know all of those things before being a leader.
Now, there is such thing as Good Leaders and Bad Leaders. This will be the next section of the guide with a list of what they do. I promise you that this guide will make you into a good leader.
Good Leaders and Bad Leaders
This will just be a small list of what Good Leaders do and what Bad Leaders do. If you do what bad leaders do, it is okay. You can change your ways. It’s just best to do what the good leaders do.
Bad Leaders
Bad leaders usually say “Go this way” and keep going that way until they hit an obliesk. No stops for stragglers, nothing.
They do not care about staddlers or the slower animals.
They rush the group.
They don’t care what the group thinks, they do what they wish, hoping the followers will just follow.
They usually like to spam their animal’s voice, which can eventually get irritating.
Good Leaders
Good Leaders tend to check the amount of animals on the Diamond-Map (Lower right side). Making sure no one is lagging behind.
They check the group’s opinion on a matter. “Should we go into a cave?” “Yes!” “No!” “No!”
They make sure that they aren’t blindly going forward, and making sure that the group isn’t missing artifacts, maybe legendary flowers (highly unlikely if it’s just out in the field, but still), etc.
Not all leaders are in front. Sometimes it’s good to be slightly in the back. Move back to the front when you’re ready or when you feel comfortable that everyone is on the right track.
Best Animals for being a Leader
“The best animals for leader? That’s a thing?” Indeed. it is. By now, I’m sure after playing for a while you’ve noticed that leaders take the form of either 3 Animals. The Goat and The Lynx.
The Lynx
The Lynx, also known to be unlocked from owning Might & Delight’s game “Shelter 2”, is probably a good choice to be Leader (Best, in my opinion).
The lynx has at least 10 different skins and 4 different voices. Most Lynx leaders have the black-skin with the 4th voice (the hissing one). This isn’t a bad choice, actually. Hissing is heard through crowds of animals making noises, so if you hear it then you know that the leader is trying to tell you something.
The Goat
The Goat (or Deer, whatever you want to call it ;]) is unlocked naturally through the game. It goes Badger Cub > Frog > Rabbit > Goat. You will unlock it with at least an hour or so. A very common choice of leaders.
The goat (as of 12/3/2017) has 9 skins and 5 voices. Goat Leaders usually wear any coat they want. But the most common (before they were given more skins) was the black skin. A lot of leaders use Voice 2 and 5. But the most used leader voice is probably voice 3. Even if it is obnoxious (slightly), it’s a voice that can be heard easily.
The main reason why The Lynx and The Goat are the best leader choices because they’re the tallest. The group needs to see your commands as a leader to follow them.
Rarely as a Leader
This is actually kind of rare, but sometimes I even see the bunny as a leader of a group. It’s surprising. Usually a group with no Goat or Lynx.
I can sort of see them as a “Scout ahead” kind of follower or co-leader, but as a leader on it’s own wouldn’t work. I wouldn’t suggest this creature as a leader of the group. But if you want to scout ahead, then by all means it’s good. Plus, the Bunny’s voice (3rd one) can really stand out too.
Know the Map
An important thing about being a leader is knowing your way around. Now, this doesn’t mean the best route, but at least the places where obliesks can usually spawn. Like the snow area.
Snowy Area
The snowy area is located west on the map. To find the snowy area, from the Home-Tree you want to look around for Taiga-looking trees (Pine Trees). Sort of like here:Going through the forest, around or across the lake, you will find the Snow Area and the “Broken Snow Area” As I’d like to call it (it looks burnt down and it can get foggy there). But if you go to the right of that broken snowy area, there will be a large field of snow with what seems like mountains in the distance. After climbing those hills, you will be in the snowy area, in which it has a lot of obliesk areas.
Autumn Area
Also known as the “Fall Area”, it actually does not have that many obliesks. Though, the deeper part of the Autumn area (the more yellowish area), has a lot more obliesks. To get to the Fall area, follow along the same.
To get to the Autumn area, go to the Pine trees. Run along the edge of the forest to the left. Keep going, and you will eventually see this little split where there is the snow biome and a red/orange/yellow biome. That’s the Autumn biome. Go straight down the autumn area, and take a right to get to the yellow/orange Autumn area.
The split looks like this:
The Highlands
This place is usually the place where people say “Hey, want to go back to spawn?” “Yeah sure”. Though, this place has a LOT of 2-people obliesks. This place is north of the Home-Tree. It’s a big plains area of obliesks and some red artifacts.
From spawn, you’ll see two giant mountains, and to the very left a giant gap in the land with a hill. In the picture I didn’t get the two mountains, but trust me. another (more adventurous) way to get to the highlands is to take the Mountain-route. East of spawn, there is a lake (pond, whatever) that leads up to the enterance of the cave. Once you find the lake, head left. Follow the river to it. You will have to swim inside. Just keep going up, and you’ll make it. It’s to the right when you exit the cave.
Those are a couple good spots to go exploring.
Interact with your Group. Know what your Group wants
This one will be kind of short, but it’s quite obvious.
When you’re the leader, ask what your group wants to do. “Do you want to go this way?” “Do you want to swim across the water?” “Do you want to go in this cave?”
Not everyone likes to go into caves. If some people say yes, and if some people say no, then count a vote. Rememeber, try to see what your group wants most. It doesn’t matter if one person separates from the group because most people put up the “Yes” vote.
Dealing with Stragglers
Stragglers are usually the slower animals. Frogs, Badger cubs, Badgers, Lynx Cubs, Foxes, they slow down the group. But make sure to let them catch up. If everyone finds a obliesk, and one fox gets left behind because they are a straggler, then they can’t get the Obliesk. There is a certain distance to where the Artifacts can load. I’ve had it happen to me many times too.
To solve this problem, the developers added this command. To wait for stragglers, you put this command up. Saying “We should wait for stragglers” or “let animals catch up”.
Usually people would spam these two commands (like I do myself). It means “Wait,
we need to let the stragglers catch up” or something similar.
It really does help people out.
Make sure to use these commands when you’re a leader. Leaders don’t leave stragglers out. It’s the reason why most new people left the game anyways. Make sure when you see people lagging behind terribly on the Diamond-Map to stop and put up the two commands.
In Conclusion
This guide has come to an end. Though, make sure to be a polite leader. Don’t get mad at when your group when it splits up. Just continue on without them.
Just be sure of what you are doing. Being a leader can be easy or tough depending on what you do. Remember that.
