Subnautica Guide

The Unknown Dangers of Subnautica for Subnautica

The Unknown Dangers of Subnautica

Overview

In Subnautica, there are more dangers than the hostiles currently in-game. I am going to be discussing the problems that are these dangers.

The Bugs

These dangers are bugs. These aren’t the fun bugs or the useful bugs. This is just the bugs that make you feel that you need to tell the devs. (which is why I did the bug feedback thingy already)

If you have a Subnautica save in survival, you will likely play it for quite a while. You have a good few weeks to play on your save file before the next update happens and you have to restart or find a way to save your base. These bugs seem to happen after a while of your save file being out. Keep in mind that this was found out in experimental, which means that we receieve 1-2 updates per day instead of the complete, stable update once per few weeks.

The First Sign

I do not have any screenshots of this one, sorry. But, what happens is you begin to notice that when trying to go for a mineral deposit or enter a cave just big enough for your prawn suit, that you cannot reach the ground. That mineral deposit on the ground is completely unreachable. That cave that was just high enough for your prawn is now two feet short. It’s a minor nuisance, but it is ignorable (mostly, unless it blocks your modification station fragment or something).

The Second Sign

I do have screenshots of this one. After a while, in the Lost River and ILZ, stuff like this happens:
The only way I found to avoid this happening is:
1. Accidentally “land” on fake ground.
2. Boost back up onto a solid piece of land.
3. Save so you don’t die.
When you reload the save more spots of land seem to be broken, but they are different ones, not super close to you.

The Wierd Spots

TWO NOTES OF WARNING:
-Do NOT save in these spots. There are no ways out besides console commands.
-These were found by me in experimental. They will also definately not be in the world at full release. I can guaruntee you.

Primary Containment Park

Now that we’ve found a clipping bug in the lava zone, let’s go where we shouldn’t. As you see in this screenshot, there are squares of magma and a warper, who doesn’t matter. We got here by going to this terrifying reaper skull: and finding a broken chunk. This actually leads to two areas, but this one is the most useful (and that isn’t saying much).
Look around for a giant cool-looking precursor base. Exit your prawn suit (which is your entrance via clipping and is only vehicle small enough to get down here without crushing) and enter the forcefield. If you walk down the hall and jump down, you will not die of fall damage even though this is probably 4 stories up. You will end up here: In fact, as you can see, one of the materials for the rocket is sitting right there! Look around on the wiki and realize that you will be able to craft 5 ion crystals into something that looks like that thing right there. It is probably something planned, a place holder, or my eyes decieving me and that’s just an ion crystal, and not the Ion Crystal Matrix.

The Void like it is in Minecraft.

From here, you can notice you are in air. There is no water where you are right now. That means you must BE CAREFUL, because you are practically the same as the prawn suit in this zone. Both have to walk on the ground. Both have to fall through the fake ground. The difference: you have no way back up. The clipping areas are still here in this area. And while I walk around, I will end up falling. I called this “The Void like it is in Minecraft,” because really if you reach the void in Minecraft you fall down and if you are in survival you are screwed. (but you can’t in survival so it doesn’t matter). If you reach this area, there will be a few flashes of blue and green, and during the blue flash you can see the Aurora. After this, everything goes black and you are falling. The fact is that you are in air, and you aren’t affected by pressure either, so you will actually factually fall forever. Maybe some people can try to find the Thing like this. Maybe they can say they found the island below everything. That won’t happen though because those are just myths.
It looks like this:

Wierd Spots: Continued

I trust you did not save in either of the areas? Good. If you did NOT save in those areas, revert back to your save. You know how I said the reaper skeleton leads to TWO areas? If you find the reaper skeleton and an error spot nearby, fall and find a giant box underwater. if you fly towards it, this happens:There were apparently two walls and a small space in between them. This is one of the wierdest areas I have seen. I can’t really go into depth with this because it is so simple. It is a small square of no terrain, so when you are inside of terrain and you reach this, you get stuck on one wall and the terrain you entered with.

The End

That’s about it. If I can find out how to edit preexisting guides, I might add to this if I find something else. I can not assure these will survive development. I also am very sure they are experimental only. This is also my first guide. When I started realizing how broken old saves get, I decided to make this guide. Tell me what you think in the comments, and if you all find a bunch of new areas and say in the comments, I might add a User section where I test out areas found by you guys.
Dangit I was so close to getting that perfect Sea Dragon screenshot.
