Dead Rising® 2 Guide

Terror Is Reality workaround for Dead Rising 2

Terror Is Reality workaround

Introduction

I want to take this time to share some of tips and tricks I’ve learned while playing TIR
to hopefully help people who are struggling to get the TK’s Favorite / Win Big achievement.
The game is sadly know to crash every once and a while as well as randomly disconnecting players.
So below you can get an general idea of what each step is trying to workaround.

Step 1 (Connecting to players workaround)
Step 2 (Disconnection workaround)
Step 3 (Disconnection workaround)

I’ll try to keep it short.

Step 1: Region Swapping (Optional?)

Note: At this point you will be asked to restart Steam

Personally I’m not entirely convinced this step is necessary
but supposedly all 4 players switching to same download region
will help connecting to one another.

Step 2: 60 FPS Lock (Important)

Choose your preferred In-game Resolution with 60Hz + V-Sync On.

All 4 people must have locked their game to 60 for best results!
As a added bonus this will work for coop to if disconnecting is an issue.

A friend and me were trying to get the DR 2: OTR Sandbox achievements
but we kept disconnecting all the time during the challenges
we tried various different things to stop us from disconnecting but to no avail.
As I was playing Killing Floor one day I mentioned to him that Solo play was unlimited fps
while Online was locked to 80.
Running out of ideas I suggested we tried locking DR 2: OTR to 60 fps
as a last ditch attempt at solving our problem, would you believe it worked?
So to me it seems the multiplayer portion isn’t optimizied for stable play above 60

Step 3: ALT+F4 (Optional)

During my attempts of getting TIR achievements I’ve had only but a few crashes to desktop
However, what I picked up from this is that the player(s) crashing
appeared as Offline for the people still playing.
This got me thinking about ALT+F4 ability to force quit games.
I asked a friend if he could test this in our next session since I was Host
to see if that prevented us from continuing our game session, to my surprise it did not.

So what are we trying to accomplish by Alt+F4?

Reducing the amount of people that are in the session at any given time
that could potentially inevitably cause disconnections basically since disconnected people
will end the session completely but crashing don’t

You will probably not have to use this step
since further testing with 60 fps cap seem to have drastically reduced
the amount of random disconnections that would occur.

Step 3: ALT+F4 (Formula)

First Method: 1 Player are going for the achievement.

Person A (Host/Red)
Person B (Achievement hunter)
Person C & D (ALT+F4 quitters) *Ideally done by people who has the achievements*

On the 1st event have Person C & D force quitting their game by ALT+F4.
This will leave Person A & B to play by them selves thus reducing the risk of overall disconnections.

—————————————————————————————————————————–

Second Method: 2 Players are going for the achievement (with a backup player just in case)

Person A (Host/Red)
Person B & C (Achievement hunters)
Person D (ALT+F4 quitter) *Ideally done by a person who has the achievements*

On the 1st event have Person D force quitting their game by ALT+F4.
This will leave Person A,B & C to play by them selves thus reducing the risk of overall disconnections.

Preparations: Other various info

TK’s Favorite / Win Big

* Has to be done in a Ranked Match

Saving Wins: How does it work?

* Host (Red) manually quitting out during any event will save progress.
* Random disconnect or crashes will not.

Who can get wins?

* Host cannot (have to find another host and alternate)

WARNING!

DON’T finish Slicecycles as this will cause the game to freeze every time
which may or may not save your progress earned up to that point
as a general rule of thumb you will have the host quit out during this event to save progress
until Slicecycles is your last needed event.
When it is your last needed event then agree with everyone to finish Slicecycles as normal
this will cause the game to freeze as usual but before it happens the “TK’s Favorite” should pop.
Same goes for the “Win Big” achievement as long you win any of the 4 events in a row.

Checklist below you can copy/paste into notepad and edit as you go along.

1st Event Pool

X – Ramersterball
X – Zomboni

2nd Event Pool

X – Ball Buster
X – Bounty Hunter
X – Pounds of Flesh

3rd Event Pool

X – Headache
X – Master Shafter
X – Stand Up Zomedy

4th Event Pool

X – Slicecycles

If you want to take it to the next level and farm a certain event that’s not showing up
there is some sort of pattern where certain events will follow the next
and it looks a little something like this

Ramster Ball->Ball Buster->Headache->Slicecycles
Ramster Ball->Bounty Hunter->Stand Up Zomedy->Slicecycles
Ramster Ball->Pounds of Flesh->Master Shafter->Slicecycles

Zomboni->Ball Buster->Headache->Slicecycles
Zomboni->Bounty Hunter->Stand Up Zomedy->Slicecycles
Zomboni->Pounds of Flesh->Master Shafter->Slicecycles

Since host quitting out will save progress you can quit out earlier if an event isnt showing up for you, however there seem to be some sort of a cooldown period (punishment timer) or whatever
if you quit out early as say in 2nd Event, which means when you set up a new lobby you will either just not get in as host yourself or people will just not be able to join you.
My advice is to quit out on 3rd or 4th to prevent this.

Conclusion

That about wraps it up!

There were more info than I initially thought there would be.
But with little luck, dedication and perseverance you can still get these achievements
with a little help from three other people ofc.
The best tip i can give is just keep track of your event wins and agree who will take what
then eventually you will all get them done.

Hope any of these tips and tricks helped.
Good luck!
