The Phred’s Levels: HELP!!!

Overview

I have a lot of levels posted in the workshop: some are straightforward, some less so. If you need a tip, this is the place to look! NOTE: Possible spoilers!

I Don’t Like Mondays

A large cityscape but not especially difficult. I recommend avoiding the blue transmitter for a while, though, if you like using tankers to demolish things.

Fools Rush In

As the title says. You start with one wheel controller, so you need to pick your target. That target is on top of the container pile, but you won’t be able to wipe all of them out in one go, so choose your favourite.

Boulevard of Broken Dreams

Hit the wrong thing at the wrong time, and your dreams may well be broken.

Or, to put it another way, avoid colliding with the grid of buildings in the front of the tankers if you can.

Watching the daisy-chained buildings fall might be fun, but don’t run out of time!

Cimmetry

Your only pickups are in the central section. Have a little patience, wait for a tanker to arrive, and use it to best effect on a tower that will help you collect the other pickups easily.

A drop of oil on the corners won’t go astray, either.

Splodey go Boom

The transmitters are daisy-chained. In fact, find the one most like a daisy to start the sequence off right.

The tallest buildings tend to fall down themselves, with a little encouragement.

Wastelands

There are only two buildings, in opposite corners.

Forget about the police car entering the middle section: you won’t be able to snag it. It’s all about the ramps.

Talking of ramps, I find the best way to approach them in this game is at ground level.

(If your cop cars get stuck facing each other in the entryway, you’ll have to restart the level unless you’ve got enough trucks left to complete the game.)

Wastelands 2: Out of Control

Identical to Wastelands, but with added oil.

I don’t upload anything I can’t complete, so yeah, it’s possible.

I completed this with two cop cars and a tanker recently – but I did it on my off-line copy, so it’s not recorded in the results.

Leap the ramps at ground-level view for best control. With a combination of luck and judgement it’s possible to take out the drums by landing on the fence, avoid the oil, wipe out the first two ranks of containers and explode your car into the crane, taking out the rest of the containers. One vehicle and the hard work’s done.

If you ride around long enough you can wipe the oil off your tyres; but you don’t have a lot of time. Better to skid steer, and good luck!

Second Wave

This one’s all about luck.

You can give luck a hand by vacumming up the buildings (and truck parts) as they fall; but that’s about it. Otherwise: persevere!

The Wrong Side of the Tracks

Fairly straightforward. The biggest challenge is running out of time, so aim wisely.

Running Amok

You’re at the mercy of the pedestrians here. It’s not so much that they have right-of-way, as they have superhuman strength.

Try oiling the end of the first straight – and get the game underway as soon as it starts, don’t wait for the flyover.

Sometimes the pedestrians will simply run you out of time: it’s frustrating, but that’s part of the game. If it helps, just sit and watch for a while after you’ve won: walking into the “Mission Completed” sign is usually fatal to peds! 🙂

Tower of Power

The title refers to the pile of containers. It’s not so much that it’s powerful, just that it’s very, very tall.

The inner run of traffic is looped, which means the vehicles won’t regenerate when they’re destroyed. Use your tankers wisely.

Checkmate

Look behind you.

At the Mall

Nothing complicated about this one, unless you’re trying to complete the Parking Boy challenge. Just don’t run out of time.

Boomtown

Find the transmitter and a lot of the work will be done for you.

If you can’t find where it’s hidden, take out the three conjoined buildings. Trust me on this.

Just Passing Through

Some of the buildings will domino if you do it right. Wheel glue is useful in other areas, but you might have to get down low for best effect.

Hunt around for the earthquake bomb box to help mop things up.

I don’t know for certain what the crashing noise is when the level starts up, but I think it’s due to a minor bug with the arch buildings. It doesn’t affect gameplay or start the timer countdown (directly or indirectly).

Everybody Bounce!

You only have a limited number of pick-ups, so use them wisely.

Don’t assume everything needs the tankers. Also, bouncing works best with a bit of a run-up.

Sometimes the tankers get stuck in a “You first” “No, you first!” loop. If you catch it fast enough, and can bounce a car to drop a building on one of them, you’ll get out of it; otherwise you’ll need to restart the level.
