Overview
Ever since before the release of 1.0, it was stressed that the story doesn’t need to be played- Here’s some possible ideas for how you might play the game without finishing the story!
Basic idea of this guide
Since before the release of Starbound 1.0, it has been stressed that the story is not required. You can play, and finish, the game without finishing the story. Some of you may be extremely uncreative like me, but don’t want to play the story over and over. This guide will give you some ideas on how you might play Starbound, and not to destroy The Ruin!
First, don’t take the game’s goals
You don’t have to follow the yellow brick road. With this game, it’s completely unnecessary. Don’t go look for Floran clues, don’t go to the Ark on the base place (I actually forgot the name ._.), don’t meet Esther, and let the worlds die. They way you may want to play the game won’t require you to destroy it!
Follow and create your own goals. Try to get the biggest possible ship, create this biggest crew you can, or even just be an Avali wanderer! Find the best gear possible? Go ahead! Create your own goals. I won’t give you ideas for that, because probably 90% of you guys are more creative than me, but the point is, don’t follow the game’s goals, set your own.
Second, You may want to follow your character’s personality as a “Class”
Take note of this one. Whether playing the story mode or not, if you create a personality from your character, follow it. A thief wouldn’t want to save the universe, they’d want to get the best gear possible before the universe crumbles. Set a personality for your character, and follow it as a “class” sort of thing.
Use certain weapon types, use certain ways of GETTING weapons, and whatnot. Take Happydays’ Terraria videos. For every series, he uses a certain class- A character that can only use a certain weapon type- Although you can’t exactly take that liberty in Starbound where all the weapons are controlled by the RNJesus himself, there are ways you can do it. Follow your players personality. It’s not the same as roleplaying, as there are some key differences. Roleplaying is literally being your character- This is not, this is them doing it the way YOU do it. Create a character based on the way you want to do things!
Guide Incomplete
So, this is me 4-years-later speaking. This isn’t complete, and probably never will be.
I found that i had the draft of this available for almost four years in my Guides tab. I figured i might as well just say “what the hell” and put it up just to preserve whatever i decided to write here as if people couldn’t figure out how to play the game for themselves.
With that said, if you expected anything helpful from this… Sorry? Just explore. That’s the point of Starbound. Figure out your own way to do things. Wouldn’t be any fun if i told you how to play your game~
