Overview
Before I start this guide, let me explain what SweetFX is. SweetFX is a tool designed to modify certain aspects of the graphics of a game. Most of the time these settings aren’t available or accessible in-game. SweetFX has been widely used with Euro Truck Simulator 2 and when used right it can create a real good looking game. In this guide I will be explaining the steps necessary to enable SweetFX for American Truck Simulator. Note: The original and more extensive version of this guide, including images and screenshots, can be found here: http://ats.world/news/guide-how-to-configure-sweetfx-with-american-truck-simulator/
Result
Beneath are the results with my SweetFX preset. However, to get the exact same result you need Piva’s weather mod as well. The first image is withouth Piva’s weather mod and with Grimes’ winter mod. Images are a little blurred, appearantly Steam is enlarging them beyond the original resolution..
Known issues
- SweetFX does not work with DirectX 12 (and therefor SweetFX is incompatible with the current shipment of Windows 10). They are working on fixing this.
Download SweetFX
To enable SweetFX you will need a couple of files. You either have the choice to download my archive files with all the files you need, or download the preset and install SweetFX manually.
You can find my archive files here:
To download just my preset go to the official SweetFX database: [link]
There are two files: SweetFX.zip and SweetFX_Configurator.zip. If you have no interest in modifying my preset you only need SweetFX.zip.
Configure SweetFX for American Truck Simulator
- Extract SweetFX.zip
- Copy the following files (all files) to the root directory of the game. You can find the root directory by opening Steam. Right click ‘American Truck Simulator‘ and select ‘properties‘. Now click on the ‘local files‘ tab and click ‘Browse local files‘. Now double click ‘bin‘ and double click again, this time on ‘win_x64‘. You are now in the root directory where you should paste the following files:
- SweetFX (Directory)
- SweetFX_Settings.txt
- SweetFX_preset.txt
- SweetFX_readme.txt
- readme.txt
- dxgi.dll
- d3d9.dll
- Now start the game and load up your savegame or start a new game.
- SweetFX should have automatically been loaded and you should see difference. Press the ‘insert‘ button to turn SweetFX off and again to turn it back on.
If you don’t notice any difference after pressing the insert button you might have missed a step. Need some help? Head over to our forums[ats.world], I’ll be happy to answer your questions!
