RP Making Guide - Tier 1 - Tier 5 for Robocraft

RP Making Guide – Tier 1 – Tier 5

Overview

A Guide for new players at Tier 1 to make RP and upgrade a sensibly designed vehicle into Tier 2 with effciency and smart design decisions.

Introduction

Hello All,

This guide’s purpose is to take someone who is new to the game and show them how to make RP, it may also help people in the lower half of the Tier’s to prioritise build designs and purchases so that you get the best RP out of your games.

There are no secrets in this guide, I’m not showing you an unbeatable robot because it doesn’t exist. But what this will do is show you how to systematically upgrade from Tier 1 up to Tier 5 without RP wastage and how to best achieve that to not feel out gunned and out played at every turn.

This guide will not be complete in 1 post, Tier 1 and Tier 2 will be first with Tier 3 and 4 in the week following, this is because this game changes so much as well as it takes time to get these videos out.

The guide has a 20-30 min for each section with written comments by myself around it. Please watch the video or else the comments will not make total sense. If you’d rather see someone crash their way through the Tier 1-10 please see my Let’s Play on my channel found here: https://www.youtube.com/user/Smashwutz

This guide is for the new player who likes to be effcient.

Basics

Ok so for the guide I am assuming you know how to place cubes and the basic workings of Robocraft, if not see my New Player Start guide found here;

[link]

Below is a quick list of things I advise you do when playing;

1. Tap firing with SMG’s – Hitting the fire button slowly in short bursts will allow greater accuracy, spray and pray only works up close, any time you are shooting someone your bursts should be 1-2 seconds at most otherwise you won’t be hitting the right areas.

2. Map understanding – Learn each of the 5 maps we have currently, at least have a working knowledge of them, if you roll into the open constantly and then come and moan to me I can’t really fix that. I’m not expecting you to be an expert but you need to account for this into reasonings why you may not be achieving what you should.

3. Aim for the pilot – You should always be aiming for the pilot, Middle back 90% of the time, not the guns and not anywhere else, this will allow you to get kills even when your badly damaged.

4. Team play – You should be trying to be with another member of your team most of the time, Hero’s die first and it’s the same here, even if it means hanging back a bit do not be on your own with 4 robots around you, no design can save you from that.

5. Goal oriented – If you want to focus exclusivly on kills thats fine but it’s not maximising your RP, doing damage, assisting your friends and capping the flag are your goals and not in that order!

6. Focus your builds – If you 1 game want to be SMG, then Plasma then rails you will waste massive amounts of RP, especially when at Tier 10 a single weapon is 110k RP, for this guide I am using SMG’s as they are most versatile.

If you think I’m talking crap by all means you don’t need this guide, but the videos show the results, most people in this game chase 2% pilot seats with wheels, don’t be like them, be better.

Tier 1

Right now for the good stuff.

Welcome to Tier 1, the first thing you should know about Tier 1 is this is the beginning, if you are new you are going to die and alot, but with some help you can focus your RP and maximise it to make enough to be the big fish in a little pond very quickly.

So stop flapping around with 10 different robots and have a watch of the video, it shows a very basic tank design which you can observe and build just pause the video and have a look, I will also include screenshots below.

[link]

Did you watch the video? If you didn’t this next bit won’t make a ton of sense!

So to start with the robot;

Front:

Side:

When first starting out you should have 8 Top mounted SMG Level 1, 8 Level 1 Steering Wheels and white cubes, thats it! This robot is not hard to build, it is no work of art and not made of anything special but it fits your CPU requirement and is easily upgraded! If you want pretty you don’t want good fast RP.

This vehicle is not a monster nor is it a beast, but it can do something. Each game you will go in, with your teammates and aim to

1. Do damage, not kill, damage people and lots of them, kills are a bonus
2. Get to the cap and get that bonus.
3. Stay alive, but don’t worryif you die!

After the game you repair and repeat building up that RP. Now you’ll want to buy this and that or recreate X robot. Do not do it, if you watched the video you can see what were aiming for. We are focusing on upgrading in a smart way to make you the hardest robot in Tier 1. Use that Rp on the following;

1. Tier 2 Top mounted SMG
2. Level 1 Armor (Brown) for **ALL** your cubes
3. Maybe wheels, debatable.

So now your vehicle should look like this;

Sporting 6 Tier 2 SMG’s, effectively the equivelent damage of 12 Tier 1 and all these brown cubes, esentially giving you nearly 500 White cubes worth of damage absorption.

When you get enough, roughly 2500 RP for the full brown cubes and an additional 2800 for the 6 guns you should be racking up the kills and practicing for the next Tier, you’re levels should be raising along with the CPU and you should be building excess RP. Save it, we will need it, my advice is like the video 3-4k RP in the bank before you move up.

I know what people are saying “Well duh!” but honestly 50% of Robocraft players do not do this, they are all over hoping to find the 1 desing to win it all and it will never happen. You need to be methodical about everything, including you’re upgrades.

Next up is Tier 2.

Tier 2

Welcome back to Tier 2.

This is where people get better and hopefully you will of to. The video here shows what we will be doing here but as I said at the end of the last video you should be upgrading those white cubes to brown.

[link]

Ok so now you’ve watched that we can summise what were doing;

Firstly you should of changed all whites to brown, this will put you firmly into Tier 2. Your now aiming for the right places, going for caps and maximising RP. Not driving around going for kills and dying in 2 shots, because your robot is armored for the Tier appropriatley. Like this;

But wait all these green robots are tough! Yeah they can be, but we’ll get there too, so here what were doing. You should still be able to hold your own, but you need to streamline your spending.

That 2-3k RP we saved goes straight onto guns, get those T 3 guns on this robot and you will see a huge difference. Do the damage, get to the cap and reap the RP. Watch as people complain they can’t make any RP too. You’ll see your teammates run after a 2% robot which you took down to that and then them complain they get no RP, laugh a bit and move on.

Now space becomes a premium the guns are bigger so you need to adapt to that without sacrificing armor, this is where the bit of leveling in T1 and 2 help, if you rushed through to Tier 3 because the RP is slightly better you’ll be bottlenecked with an under armoured vehicle. Make sure you get those levels.

But theres no way to deny it, you want a bit of this green cube pie, well if you’ve gotten 3-4 T3 weapons and playing as I showed you should be pulling 300-400 per game. Save it and get those 6 guns, then you’ll be better than 75% of the robots. Next you need the cubes, work for that.

You should end up with this, as long as you havnt messed with plasmas or rails or built some kind of hovercraft because “one time it 1 shot you” all your RP is on this robot, I would expect most people to have this within 4-5 hours of playing if they are fast with games.

Now you will be sitting pretty in Tier 2, I strongly advise you stay here and really farm your levels because it gets tougher and slower. Build up that RP reserve to make the jump from Tier 2 to Tier 3.

Make sure your going for damage, assists and caps then kills, please don’t waste around the whole game looking for that pilot seat with wheels.

Tier 3 will be coming soon, and we start to diversify.

Tier 3

Welcome to Tier 3.

By now you should have the basics down, if your not doing what I suggested in the first 2 videos then I can’t really help much more, except to continue to show you the upgrade route we are taking.

Below is the video;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UHE9cIYqLs

Some things assumed are that you have grinded out some games, your CPu should be getting higher 500-600 I’d recommend and this will allow for much more armor.

The main things to note are the overall increase in size of this robot. It becomes longer with the cockpit and second layer moving back. Total enclosure of the wheels giving a bigger turret area. The main thing to remeber is our goals do not change, we are still maximising the RP through damage and caps and sensible plays.

Your armor is now all Green cubes and weapons should be working straight for those T4, when you have built that up you should have something like this;

You now have 6 well spaced and decent Level 4 SMG’s, these will be the difference between getting proper damage on someone and just knee capping them. Focus on the middle bottom where the pilot cube is and you will tear through people, especially those in glass cannon builds or in brown cubes which you will meet alot.

You have a very tough outer shell and can go 1 on 1 but still stick with team mates, you are a rolling tank and can take it and dealt it out very heavily.

When you are comfortable with all the changes you should start to look at the light blue armor, here where I would leave it to yourself, it is very very expensive to go to this armor at this stage, I’d suggets seeing how far from T4 you are, if it’s close with wheels etc maybe consider skipping this armor until T4. You will be weaker overall but 400 cubes of light blue armor will set you back a fair amount.

Regardless of what you choose you need to start building a bank of RP and making sure you are completley decked in Green cubes and Level 4 weapons, get this and you will survive most attacks and games if you play smart.

Watch my video and see how it’s played, I do considerbly well in most the games and I have done nothing special here.

Map awareness and gameplay do become mor eimportant but you should be well practiced at this and streamlined into a robot like this. Try to avoid the temptation to edi tthe robot if your following the guide as it means buy tetras or prisms for more RP which coul dbe used on better armor or weapons!

At this stage you could probably go half and half light blue with green before being pushed over, less if you add extra guns or faster wheels, which is another option.

Tier 4 brings alot more challenges and you start to really face the harder robots, so farm Tier 3 make sure you are totally comfortable before moving up and make sure you have spare RP before you do, enough for 2-3 Level 5 SMG’s which is no easy task.

Also GET YOUR LEVELS UP!! low CPU is an instant loss!

Tier 4

Welcome to Tier 4.

This is where you should now be alot better at the game, understanding whats going on and probably doing mainly your own thing, so a guide per say is a bit unessecary. Regardless here is one for completions sake!

[link]

Ok so first thing you can see is this is starting to cost serious RP, if you have been umming and arrring about buying premium I would suggest it, no its not needed but it will help alot!

We will assume you havn’t and for now everyones robot should be where we left off the last guide but buying those fancy aquamarine cubes! Like so;

So here we have the front being Light blue and the rest green, still with T4 guns. As before our first goal is to push straight for the guns and hopefully you budgetted for this and can buy at least 2-3 T5 weapons.

Start to accumulate these and assess if maybe some re-arranging would be better, maybe have the guns more towards the back or widen the vehicle in places.

Regardless we want 6 T5 guns asap, they are the real game changer and we need them to continue putting out the hurt.

Hopefully you’re vehicle looks something like this now;

Half and Half with T5 guns.

Now were putting out good damage and if you aim for the centre middle you will drill through most people before they get to kill you, but you may find your suffering a bit in survivability which is unsurprising, you’re again T5 and possibly T6 weapons with Level 2 armor, ouch!

This is where we look to really push the boat out and full upgrade to light blue armour. As suggested I widen the wheelbase to increase stability and move guns further back, making them harder to blow off with a random plasma shot. Bear in mind space may become an issue but at this Tier I’m hoping people are learning more and are planning ahead.

Get all your aquamarine cubes done and you can see you have wiggle room for “Extra’s” like so;

These can be whatever you have CPU for, EP’s or engines, more cubes to fatten it out and make it stronger, you could increase the length or width in anticipation of bigger guns or just reinforce the wheels or gun turrents, you still have a fair few more of this Tier to go. Another good option is the wheels or redundency guns, 6 is the full amount but 8 means you keep shooting when 2 blow off.

Next will be Tier5 but realistically everyone should be working out whats coming next and how to best maximise their robot. Keep doing what I’ve said and aiming for the right areas, looking for caps and damage and playing as a team and you’ll be fine, try not to gung ho like in my Let’s Play’s sometimes and maybe consider a lower Tier different design, you have all those spare cubes play around with creativity!

Tier 5 ****Newly Completed****

Welcome to Tier 5!

[link]

By this point you probably have lots of games under your belt and if you’ve been following the guide you don’t need me to patronize you!

So currently you should have something like this;

A full Level 3 cubed vehicle. The first thing we want to do is add those guns, remembering that they are the biggest difference, all Level 6 SMG are prefered. Although you may notice spacing the guns becomes and issue and soon we will have to rework the bodyshape.

For Tier 5 it is a bit odd because you cannot keep upgrading guns and cubes and leave it at that, you’ll start keeping the same vehicle a while and often need to practice with one vehicle. For that purpose I have started to introduce a more effecient, for guns and looks, shape to the vehicle.

Using what is quite common in T10 I have future proofed the vehicle to T7, the guns sizes work with 6 X T7 weapons even though at the moment we will only be using T6. It’s a 1 2 1 2 1 formation of guns and allows 7 on the main body at heights which should not hit each other (any gun placed in LOS of the other gun has 2 blocks of height) and is quite an effecient arrangment space wise.

As you can see it makes it look a hell of alot better. The guns are all Level 6 SMG as we have been using and the vehicle is entirley Level 4 Cubes but the shape is much nice to look at and provides decent protection.

It runs in at about 750 CPU with everything I have done and 670ish if you remove the fluff and addons, it is up to yourself if it’s something you wish to try and recreate fully or simply use bits and pieces.

Conclusion

Hopefully you have enjoyed and this guide has been helpful to you, just remember to play as a team and go for damage, caps and finally kills and keep building sensibly and don’t build robots you see in quick montages, they are never that good!!

I am aware these robots are a bit ugly but we are not focusing on that I want more people to be in Tier 5 + and for people to have fun.

If you are Tier 5 and want other builds, maybe a flyer? or a hover? please return the favor and check out my youtube channel I have 30+ robot guides and a full Tier 1-10 lets play on there and would appreciate you stopping by or check out my other steamguide;
