New Play Guide Videos – 3-5 kills a game – From T1 to T5 – Build and Play guide

Overview

This is a guide for newer players whereby you learn while you watch. I have a new account with no premium no boosts, nothing. Level along with me and see how easy it is to do better than 90% of people out there even without all the best gear and hopefully you learn to play well for Tier 10.You will see me build play and upgrade a single vehicle all the way, ensuring you can follow the guide and see how I deal with different situations.This proves this game is not PAY TO WIN and is simply pay to go faster.

Introduction – What this guide will do for you?

Hello all,

My name is Smashwutz I have a youtube channel for Robocraft and other games and have played Robocraft for about a year and a bit. I currently have a Let’s Play of 170 episodes (As of 27/01/15) and like to think I know fairly well what to do.

What I promise after watching these videos;

1. You will be a better player
2. You will have a Tier 4 minimum vehicle which can easily go 5 kills a match
3. You will understand the basics of upgrading and smart investments
4. You will be better than 50-60% of players out there.
5. You will be earning RP on 1 robot consistently.

This guide is meant for people beginning the game who have tried the game once or twice but cannot grasp how to further move themselves forward and to educate people on how to level.

Forget about buying Roboshop robots or GC, all you need is to follow what I do. And to make it simple I build the robot from Level 1 cube 1 all the way up to Tier 5, without using premium or GC or anything else.

It’s all genuine, no cuts or edits, and while some may not like to have hour long episodes, it helps prove the validity and speed at which you can level if you follow a solid guide.

Each section I shall try to cover what we learn in text but unfortunatley you’ll have to watch the video for the full content.

I hope this helps people to see how to level, how to play and overall how to win.

Tier 1 – Starting out and making steady progress

So first off here is the video;

[link]

Have a watch of it, it is an hour long as each of these are and inside you will of seen the progression from brand spanking new robot to a robot that gets 3-5 kills a game using only basic starter items.

The main points ot take from this episode is;

-Basic building techniques; Learning to use redundancy (Extra guns/wheels etc) and securing your pilot seat.

-Ensuring guns are not blocking each other

– Correct aim technique for enemies

– How to upgrade a robot, and not act like a fool and make 3 crap robots instead of 1 good one.

The result will be this – Taken from 32 mins in the video;

So thats from a fresh account after 30 mins, easy right? Exactly!!

You can see I start a fresh account the rule we will always be applying is this

Weapons > Armor > Mobility

This is for upgrades, so we will always aim for the highest weapon we can buy and minimum of 6 of them, usually 8. This is for Redundancy.

Key Points

-Understanding redundancy is key for leveling up. How it works is this; Only 6 guns can fire in a “cycle” if you have 8 guns you won’t fire faster or do more damage but because of how cubes are destroyed in Robocraft as you lose guns if you have 8 that is 2 spare guns so you keep the 6 gun cycle going even when at 75% or even 50% health.

-You can also see I am not shy on wheels. Movement is key to staying alive, if you are not moving you are probably already dead, or soon will be, having 6 wheels instead of 4 is the same as having 8 guns not 6. You will see multiple times in this video where I am down to 4 wheels or 3 guns, without this redundancy I’d be at no guns or non mobile.

– Aim for the middle back of the vehicle, not front, not weapons, the pilot seat and 90% of the time you will win 1v1.

Next video will be for T1 into T2 and the progress we make

Tier 2 – Adding armor and improving you redundancy

Episode 2 and it’s onto Tier 2!

So leaving off where Episode 1 and the first part of the guide was we have the video; (Note The whole of Tier 2 is 2 videos long)

[link]

So Tier 2 and were Level 6 or there about depending how many games you’ve played.

The things we will be focusing on now are

Redundancy of Guns

Increasing the armor

Sensible Upgrades.

With these 3 things you will continue to see positive power gains until you hit T3.

Redundancy – As mentioned before, losing 1 gun currently reduces out DPS by 1/6th, so by adding a gun we give ourselves that safety net. No it doesnt increase DPS but means we can take a bad shot and still keep going. 8 guns on a tank is minimum, don’t let other people fool you, any less and come T5+ you won’t be fighting long.

Increasing the armor – I’m sure you thing this is obvious, well you’d be surprised. People get wow’d by thrusters, jammers and hovers and they just keep adding DPS, which gets you so far. But as you see in the video how many people have 1 cube between their rear and the pilot seat? Lots.

Don’t be that way, many a time someone will hit you from the side or back, you need 2-3 cubes of armor before your pilot seat cubes.

Also for some reason people would rather have 3 highest cube armor blocks then 20 lower ones, always always go for more of a lower upgrade over a smaller big upgrade (unless your making a tiny bot).

This means the damage is more evenly spread and the whole bot is stronger quicker. Were not making a robot to plow through everyone here (even though thats what were doing) but to get it T2 worthy and robust fast.

In this Tier your priorities are;

Full Brown (T1) armor.
T3 guns (at least 6)
T2 wheels only when all else is upgraded and you need the push to Tier 3.

If you listen to the way I play and how I plan my game you should be seeing this often, even being mainly T1 gear with your openants silly hovers and quicky bots, that do nothing to you!

Tier 2 to 3 – Beefing up the Robot – First experience on the low end of T3!

So last episode we got to the top end of Tier 2. We were sitting pretty and king of our domain….that domain being Tier 2!

Now we start to round off Tier 2 and set our sites on Tier 3.

[link]

So watching the video you can see Tier 3 brings a whole load of issues. The biggest thing is;

Over Tiering becomes a Thing:

Over Tiering is when players from higher Tiers build smaller or purposly get higher level weapons into the Tier, this is to make it fun or just to seal club. There really throw spanners in the works, especially if your leveling up from scratch because 1 Tier5 Plasma can rip half your robot off in a shot, making it quite unfair. Regardless this is the game!

The best way to combat this is to start to work as a team. Tier 1 and 2 we were actively looking for solo kills and the lone path, but more and more the team takes priority. Your goal if you are trying to earn RP is this;

1. Do some damage, as much as possible whilst staying functional
2. Cap the flag, always cap the flag!
3. Kills come later.

It sounds odd but this is the way you make RP, kills are great but the multiplier from a win and 4 cap bonus will outweigh most kills unless you pulling 3-4 kills.

Seeing as we have just entered into Tier 3 its unlikely a basically T2 robot can do this but 1-2 kills per game is perfectly good!

Focus on improving your robot, don’t be tempted by plasmas and rail guns, although be aware of these new types of weapons.

Plasma’s – These do splash damage to a larger area, often causing weapons to break off, but have a 3 second cooldown, so duck and doge between the shots. Try to rush down and past them, long range vs a good plasma you will come off losing as SMG’s are small accurate hits and plasma is large area splash.

Rails – These are the snipers of Robocraft, strong and recently buffed they have the longest range and really can piece a robot, often causing the infamous “One Shot”. Luckily your already doing you rbest to negate this, building 2 cubes in all directions minimum for your pilot seat and ensure you have enough cubes to spread the damage.

Taken from one of the games mid way through the episode when were are still moving through the begining of the Tier, not bad for a T2 robot;

Tier 3 to Tier 4 – 6 Kills as a fresh account in T3? Easy with this bot.

**Of note people have mentioned this is about a month old, nothing of note has changed that would make this any less effective. New gun models come next episode!***

So we have entered into the real game I’d say now. Tier 3 is when you start to see diversity in robots. You’ll be hard pressed to find white cubes in this tier and most people playing have at least a few hours in the game by this point.

Does that make it harder? Not really! People do not have the knowledge you have and are playing like headless chickens, building bots which are front heavy or very gimmicky. Playing with hovers because they are new and making just terrible robots.

DONT BE THAT GUY!

You have your bot, faithful little Robo1 has served you so well, resist the urge to make something you saw on the forums. Although should you start to feel tired on Robo1 fear not, once your into Tier 4 you’ll have enough spare CPU to go back and make weird Tier 2 bots and you can see how effective they are!

So to start the video;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuru1fHEyLo

As you can see the bot is mainly brown cubes but very quickly becomming green with T2 armor cubes. We have some of our T4 guns and we are trying to get all 6 upgraded.

Not alot of stratergy changes, we are going for the kills as we need but capping as a priority. Roaming is still a strong part of our play and having a mobile little bot helps massively.

Of note you can see several times were Railguns appear and we shrug them off, don’t be alarmed by railers the best tactic for them are as follows;

1. Hide and find a way around, rails need to be steadied before firing so jumping between small distances works well.
2. If you come face to face charge them down, alot of rails struggle up close and naturally will panic is an SMG is coming into their face.

When it comes to upgrades stick with what we’ve learnt GUNS -> Armor -> Movement is they name of the game and ensure that your strongest cubes are below your pilot seat and gun points.

As an example of one of the games;

Yeah 7 kills…obviously its not every game but you can see it can literally rip through a team if played right!

Next up we finish T3 and attempt to push to Tier 4!!

Tier 3 and Dipping into Tier 4 – Don’t be afraid to go back to an old tier!!

Right so were doing good now, settled well into Tier 3 but we need to move on, more RP and harder emeies await!!

Firstly the video for you, in this episode we will breach into Tier 4, and come back down just to earn more RP to make a proper entrance to T4, theres nothing wrong with having to dip back once you have the Tech tokens for the guns.

[link]

So things you’ll notice this episode;

1. Continued armor increase for the vehicle, if you want to be in a higher tier you’ll need armor and guns not just guns or else you’ll limit yourself ot maybe 1-2 kills a game, the game is about suvivability as wlel as damage. Most encounters you’ll take some damage and if your a glass cannon 1 fight will leave you out of action.

2. We dip into Tier 4 briefly, we struggle yes, were using mainly T2 armor so we would, but we can still manage our own due to peoples terrible building (aka not following this guide) and our main goal is to get those T4 tokens which will allow us to buy the next tier guns.

3. Once we have these we dip back into T3, we know we can get consistent good results from T3 and it’s worth more RP over the long run, but we want the T5 guns. Now we have the Tech unlocked it makes no difference how we earn it!

4. Rails start to make more of an entrance in T4 as do flyers of different types, we deal with rails relatively well, using cover and spotting the laser sight to dodge the shots, most people ar enot crack shots at this stage.

5. Flyers are thankfully glass cannons in this Tier and so a bit of awareness and tap firing will finish 90% before they can do damage.

Screenshot taken from the end of the vehicle as we press back into Tier 4, considering not a single T5 weapon on us we still do quite well!!;

Next episode we’ll start to conquer Tier 4 and will start to think about adjusting the robot!

Tier 4 and to push for Tier 5 – Better bot now, less hassle later – Tier 5 Revamp! – Decent RP all through!

So now were tier 4 but were looking to Tier 5 and above, so this means guns are not fitting quite so well and while our little bot is pure win, we need to upgrade!

[link]

Now things to note about upgrading, its not always the best options;

Pros:

– Higher Gun Capacity
– More Cubes to be blown off before critical systems are damaged
– Sturdy robots last longer

Cons:
-Large CPU cost
-Easier to Hit
– Not as fast

So you can see there is a cost benefit analysis to be done. I hat packing guns together or only being able to fit 5 in optimal location so I’d always upgrade but it is worth noting that a small but can be better armored with slightly less guns than a big bot.

But here we are upgrading and thats most the video so I will let that explain. The main thing we need is the RP and CPU to go up. This is why I did 5 battles offline so we could hit the ground with a running start. Once were done we will have a great little robot.

If you like the final design and want to see it used at higher Tiers check these two build guides out, but be aware their CPU is a bit higher 800-1000 CPU, both are similar designs.

Tier 5 – 800 CPU

[link]

Tier 7 – 900 CPU;

[link]

Tier 5 – The end of our journey – You’re now better than 75% of RC players

Well we’ve done it, now were really kicking ass and pushing onto Tier 5. To be honest there not really much for me to say except watch and enjoy!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5LjeB0um0c

You can see it’s the same as before, once you get the hang of it, it’s really not too tricky! just keep trucking on with the design, upgrading in stages and be methodical.

Resist the urge to buy random parts and guns and just stick to Tiering up for maximum RP!!

Unfortunatley guys that is the end of the guide, it has been great funa nd I’ve thoroughly enjoyed our run through. I’ve shown you do not need to pay to win, nor do you need to be a master builder to do better than 90% of people who seem to think they know whats up.

I don’t use flashy videos and dont cut my losses, you see what happened so at least noone can ever say I’m lying unlike some other RC videos!

If you enjoyed or it helped you guys feel free to visit my channel and sub for daily content and other build guides.
