Overview
This is the first Real guide about building a basic BomberIn this Guide i will teach you how to build a basic bomber and teach you the fundamental skills of bomber building
Section 1 Basic Knowledge
I do not own either of these pictures used in this section they belong to who ever uploaded them to google.
A Bomber is an aerial vehicle, The main advantages of these vehicles are its speed and maneuverability. But it has little to no armor but has a decent amount of fire power, because of this it weighs more so the maneuverability is slower. You want to keep in mind that the Bomber has to have a center gravity, just like any other aerial vehicle and you want to keep this in the center as much as possible to keep balance. The Bomber has a big advantage over most vehicles, Planes stay high in the sky to avoid detection, though you want to avoid staying low to the ground when you are making a bombing run, SMG and Rail Guns will tear you apart. Bombers unlike fighters do not use a hole lot of speed but have massive wings to be able to hold their payload. and use their ability to climb high in the sky to avoid being seen, so speed is not a big issue for bombers.
There are four basic rules that keep a AirPlane in the sky, these basic rules are called Aerodynamic Forces, these forces are.
- Lift
- Weight
- Thrust
- Drag
A=Lift
B=Thrust
C=Weight
D=DragFor any aerodynamic vehicle to fly straight two things must be met, these form a relationship That i like to call Straight & level Flight
Thrust=Drag
Lift=WeightAs of right now in RoboCraft the weather does not affect your plane so there wont be any random drag that will cause your plane to slow down for an unexpected reason. But in the real world if the amount of drag becomes larger than the amount of thrust then your plane will slow down. However if the amount of thrust is increased so the amount of thrust is greater than the drag the plane will speed up. But if the amount of lift drops below the weight of the plane then it will descend, But if pilot increases the lift, the plane will climb
Thrust
Thrust is an aerodynamic force that must be created by the the AirPlane, in order to overcome the force of drag. The Thrust and Drag act in opposite directions. AirPlanes must create thrust by using
- Propellers
- Jet Engines
- Rockets
Drag
Drag is an aerodynamic force, that resists the motion of an object moving. Through Fluid, in this case air is the fluid, water is also a fluid, drag also affects subs. The simplest example anyone can experiment with is sticking your hand out of a window while you are in motion, what your hand is experiencing is called drag. The amount of drag created boils down to a few factors,
- Object Size
- Speed of the object
- Air density
If the object was to slow down the amount of drag would decrease, Olympic skiers, is another example of how drag works. While they are going down the mountain you will see them hunch over and get as small as possible while still keeping balance, this is to help decrease drag and speed them up, so they can get to the finish line faster. After take off any plane always retracts its landing gear, This is also to help decrease drag and have a smoother ride. That and the force alone of the landing gear against the wind would rip them right off the plane.
Weight & Lift
Weight, Every object on earth has weight. Including air, A passenger plane can weight up to 435 tons, but still be able to lift off the runway.
Lift, is an aerodynamic force, that holds the plane in the air, and the most tricky out of all four of the aerodynamic forces without using a lot of math. on all AirPlanes lift is acquired by the wings, although there are some other parts that play this role as well. A principle in aerodynamics is that Air is a fluid
About Fluid
A principle in aerodynamics is that Air is a fluid. Like all gases Air, flows and behaves in a similar manner to water and other liquids. Even though air, water and even pancake syrup may seem as a very different substance, they however all conform to the same set of mathematical relationships. A lot of aerodynamic tests are even done under water. Another important fact is that lift can only exist in the presence of a moving fluid. However this is also true for drag, this doesn’t matter if the object is stationary and the fluid is moving, or if the fluid is still and the object is moving through it. What really matters is the relative difference in speeds between the two (object & fluid)
Neither lift or drag can be created in space, because there is no fluid. This will explain why most space craft does not have wings, unless the spacecraft spends most of its time in the air. The space shuttle is a perfect example it has only stubby little wings used for re entering the earth’s atmosphere, its stubby wings is just enough to create lift. To glide to its landing zone.
Section 2 Getting Started
I generally start all my plane designs by adding 3 blocks and putting the seat on the back 2.
I start to form the plane’s cockpit by using, Cubes and prisms.
While i am forming the plane’s cockpit i raise the back up by 1 using 3 Prisms and 3 Cubes.
Then i go to the front of my cockpit and put 1 Tetra under the sideways Prism and 2 Prisms connecting to the 2 cubes on the undercarriage, and i do this for both sides.
As of right now i am content with the cockpit, but if you are not then you can make it more smooth and round if you like.
Section 3 Forming the Body
I start to form the body of the Bomber by adding 5 Cube blocks to the bottom Cube block on the back of my cockpit.
Then i add a Prism to the 5th block in the back and put 2 cubes connecting to it. and add my T6 thrusters to the 3rd block, this doesn’t have to be the Tier i am using i just happened to have T6 stuff. Note NEVER BLOCK the thrusters, do not stack each other in front of each other and DO NOT cover them up with armor they have the breath.
I ended up taking the Prism off and putting a Cube block instead and adding blocks to the top of the craft where we first connected them to the 3 Prisms and made a 3X3. The Cube we used instead of the Prism on the back of the bomber this is where your second set of engines go and took off 1 of the cube blocks in the back, you will notice that this picture and the top do not match, that is because i have added these changes i just listed
Then i ended up taking off that Cube block in the back to round it all off and added 2 Prisms on the back 2 of the 3X3
Then i took the bottom Cube off of the very bottom of the plane and put a Prism
Section 4 Forming the Tail
I added 1 Cube to each side of the Prisms and 1 Inner connecting to the Cubes on each side and 1 Tetra to them both.
Then i added the Rudder this Forms the Tail
Section 5 The Wings
Do NOT DO THIS. The wing is backwards and it took some time to figure this out on my own.
I put the wing on the First Cube that starts the 3X3 and this is the way the wing needs to be facing. You never want to cover the wings, if you do only ever cover the bottom but this will reduce speed and turns, because the wings can not get enough air.
This is what the plane should look like so far. I also took away the bottom cube in the front and put a prism instead to form a nose.
Now we start to form the back wings, but you notice there isn’t enough room. I add 1 Cube block to the back rudder so now the Tetras are no longer hanging onto nothing in the end, the ends connect to the cubes.
And i connect the second set of wings to this block. i do this for both sides,
Section 6 Finishing up
This is what the plane should look like so far from the sides and the back.
Then i add a radar receiver, this is one of the bombers best friends. This will allow you to see your targets while you are high in the sky.
Then we add some plasma guns.
And here is the Bombers second best friend, the radar jammer. The more you have the more concealed you will be.
Bomber Concepts
My Latest Bomber, this one is a little difficult to control, the center of gravity is in the back and because there are more thrusters in the front, the thrust is greater and not as even. But still fun to fly with, just thought i would Warn you if you decide to copy this but these are mainly for ideas.
This one flies almost perfect, my inspiration was the B-2 and dont mind the T1 blocks i ran out while i was building just replace them with the armor.
