Overview
Build a base without using mountain protection.
Overview
A different way to play Rimworld. Inspired from roman camps (Castrum). The structure of the base is simple/efficient/adaptable. You will not have any problems with infestations with this build.

Structure & Pathways
To reduce and make movement the most efficient you want to build fractal-like walkways, starting with an empty middle and going out in all directions. This will give you 4 entries to your base which helps with logistics. Depending on how many colonist you have you can start adding their bedrooms, later on adding storage rooms and working stations etc.
IMPORTANT:
Watch underlaying terrain so you know it can support structures.
If you have to remove small hills, be aware if they create mountain roof (Infestation) and build your base elsewhere.
Layers
Since you dont have the raw protection like mountain bases have, you must rely on layers. Having double walls on the outer walls. Cooridors with multiple doors so if the enemy gets in, they still have more layers to get through before they get into the more critical areas (hospital/storage). More layers will slow down your movement since you will be adding doors, heavier doors mean more protection but slower travelling. Research for electric doors helps alot with this. The white lines represent example of layers you can add.
Bunkers
Build bunkers in the corners and between them, being able to shoot incoming enemies from multiple directions. 8 bunkers in total, you can follow the fractal nature of the base and build more if you decide to build a bigger base. Start with the bunkers connecting to your 4 main pathways.
Tips
Grow Rose or Daylilly in the path ways for beauty.
Deconstruct existing walls on the map to use as building material.
Be creative
As long as you follow the the simple structure you can adapt and build the base the way you want it.
