An Honest Guide on How to Become a Better Player

Overview

This guide is meant to teach you how to become better at Brawlhalla, so that you can reach higher ranks and beat some butt!

Before We Start

I am no means one of best players, far from it actually, but I think that I am capable of teaching players how to improve at this game!
The main goal of my guide is to help newer players get better at the game!

A Few Things to Do Before Playing Ranked

Here are some important things to do, that will help you on your journey:
– Stay hydrated. Failing to do so can make you feel more tired, dizzy, or make your reaction times slower.
– Accept the fact that it is impossible to win every match. Even the best of the best lose matches, and it is nothing to be ashamed of.
– Keep your hands and yourself warm, you can’t click as fast while your hands are freezing.
– If you are playing keyboard, change your controls to something that you are comfortable to play with. Also there are a few settings you should also do, which are:
1) Uncheck the option to pick up with quick attack, because usually you will want to pick up a weapon instead of hitting someone, and doing that can make you punishable.
2) Unbind your “jump + aim up” key, and bind “aim up” and “jump” to something comfortable.
“Aim up” is for throwing items above you.
3) Changing your display mode to fullscreen will reduce input lag.
Having your name above you will help you see your position at any given moment.

So How Do I Actually Improve?

– Find a legend or weapons you want to play. Do not look at the statistics of their win rate or play rate, but find something that is comfortable for you to play, and you enjoy doing so.
– After finding what to play, you should go to the practice tool, and learn every true combo and strings for those weapons. Some certain legends can do a true combo using a light attack and then a signature. A good example is Cassidy’s down light > neutral sig on hammer, or down light > dash > neutral sig on blasters.
– Practise movement. I can’t stress this enough, but movement is one of the most important things in Brawlhalla. To practise it, go to training mode, select the big great hall and start doing a loop like shown in the picture. You should aim for dash jumping everywhere, and doing the loop as fast as possible.

– DODGE RANDOMLY EVERY SINGLE TIME! Dodging in the same direction will get you read, and you will either take more damage, lose a stock or even the game.
– Punish whenever possible! If someone is charging their sig or missed their attack, evade it and hit the enemy while they are still recovering from the attack.
– Watch pro players play Brawlhalla, and see what are they doing that helps them win. Alternatively, you can watch your own demos and see what is making you lose. Maybe you are too predictable, failing true combos or easily getting punished?

Fighting Rage

This happens to all of us. You are ready to play some ranked and beat some butt, but it seems that you just can’t beat anyone today, making you rage. What to do when this happens?
– Shut down the game or your pc, and walk away from it. Nobody wants you to smash your monitor or keyboard, right?
– Go take a walk outside, breathe some fresh air. This will surely calm you down, while also being good for you health.
– Do something that calms you down, like drawing, playing a musical instrument or whatever you find calming.
– After calming down, please, don’t go play ranked instantly. Go practice a bit in the training mode, and play some experimental as well.
