Awesomenauts – the 2D moba Guide

Three is a magic number... V0.1 for Awesomenauts

Three is a magic number… V0.1

Overview

The worlds first guide to awesomenauts SPECIFICALLY designed for playing with two friends. If you’re hunting for cheese, look away however – the guides shown here WILL reward skill, but don’t expect to win straight away without practice!

Introduction

This is a guide for experienced awesomenauts players, who perhaps are finding their matches lacklustre, and want to find a way to spice up their game. This is for the players, who like myself, brought a three pack of this game to play with their friends. This is for the MLGs, and the newbies (although I hope you have some idea of how this game works!), the ones who want to race to league one, the ones who want to prestige all the way, THIS IS FOR YOU!

Hi there. My name’s Bumble. And this is my guide to having some fun with friends in this wonderful game. I probably have never met you (if I have, hey buddy!), so let’s get a few things straight.

What I expect from you:

-You’ve played the tutorial
-You’ve unlocked at least one of the following characters (Voltar, Coco, Gnaw, Yuri, Clunk), and have played with that character (or character’s) at least once.
-To play for fun, not for the win (although with this guide you probably will!)
-Lastly, to have a couple of mates on hand who are willing to read this guide too!

What you can expect from me:

-To never knowingly provide cheesy or game – breaking tips.
-To check and respond to comments here once in a while!
-To help you have a good time.

Okay, so now that’s over with, here’s a guide to this guide!

Guide to the Guide (GUIDECEPTION, THE METAGUIDE!)

You don’t need to read this, but it could help. Here’s the template this guide uses, you can read this if you aren’t understanding something, but mostly it’s here to remind me of the template!

Gnaw

Purchase order: Power Pills, Piggy bank, Solar tree, Weedlings, Acid spit, Tentacle soup, Spike slime, Split spit, Flex neck, Corrosive spawns, Rotten teeth, Diamond teeth, Chattering teeth.

Gnaw is the main punch packer of this team. Although you should upgrade the Acid spit first, the Weedlings are what cuts it for this build. Putting them in the path of Voltar’s healing when they are maxed out, they are essentially a fourth person for your team. However, be wary that you may fall victim to Coco and Raelynn if you try and look after them too much. Remember that if you die, the Weedlings will go down with you, but you can always replace the Weedlings on their own. Lastly, remember that when you have a maxed bite, you are nigh unstoppable. Take on that Clunk, ignore Derpl’s turret, GO FOR THE KILL. Be heroic.

Voltar

Purchase order: Dreams of Greed, Solar Tree, Power pills turbo x1, Healing bot, Turret add on, Suicide drones, Hyrdaulic sugar dispenser, Power pills turbo, Energy drink, Drone army, Weapon clip on, Hyper drive, *The healing wave upgrades are all situational, to stop the enemy pushes get knockback and range, otherwise wait.

Voltar is the provider of the ‘Orb’ in this build. If you play Voltar much, then you should be able to realise that with the maxed out heal bot, you can keep it out THE WHOLE TIME. This is amazing for area denial, and will make people hate you. I have gone for shooty drones with this one, as it really helps with pushing their turrets. You will notice that the drones are considered an entity, and so the turrets will shoot them. Make sure your team sticks with you, and let’s you hog the solar, as you really need to max this build out ASAP.

Coco

Purchase order: Power pills, Piggy Bank, Solar Tree, Ball lightening, Blaze, Gyrascopic Dynamo, Conducting Gel, Thunder Striker, Wave raiser, Time travel turbine, Syphon disruptor, Hoover hands, Power gloves, Wetsuit.

Coco is, funnily enough, the one with the support role in this group, and the hardest job. You need to knock back the enemy into the orb with the ball lightening, then quickly turn and use your hands to finish them off alongside your team mates. This means you need to get used to where you position the ball lightening, which can be hard. It may sound boring, but it dramatically help if you practice against bots on the practice mode; besides, that’s what it’s here for. Coco has to knock back AND slow everybody down, which will make them easy prey.

So, as a team, your job is to push the same lane, as a group, mostly staying within Voltar’s ‘orb’. You will be dealing so much DPS that everyone will die. Gnaw has to be quick when moving the Weedlings up, but it will be well worth everybody’s efforts. If one person dies however, go full defence. You must remember this, or you will suffer. However, this is a fun group, and my favourite loadout over all the characters is in fact the Voltar one mentioned. My main tip is to all be talking to each other, using Steam chat or whatever your preference is. Stick with this, and it will be fun, and is a great way to bond.
