Damage! Damage!! DAMAGE!! (A Guide to Leon)

Overview

An informational guide/build to my current main Naut’, Leon. Written by yours truly, PineappleRocket. Open to any and all criticism!

Introduction

The infamous Chameleon is currently considered one of the most “OP” characters. In other words, people find it harder to develop a strategy to counter him. One of the most simple strategies is sticking with your team. Instead of going on a rant about how he is not “broken” like everyone else claims, I will teach you how to play him.

Leon’s two abilities are both crucial to being successful, as any nauts abilities are. His first ability is his tongue, and his second is his cloak. Leon cashes in on high mobility, invisibility, and burst damage which I consider those his 3 most important traits.

But without further ado, I will go on to discuss the tongue.

Tongue

The tongue is without a doubt the most crucial thing in order to be successful with Leon. It’s what initiates combat, and can pull an enemy in for a successful gank. If you miss the tongue shots, you’re going to be a detriment to your team. Currently, it has an essential upgrade that will soon be taken out (as I’ve heard) which is the magnet piercing.

The magnet piercing is basically another form of a solar upgrade, like the piggy bank, or solar tree. It has a cost of 60 solar. For every successful hit on a target, you get 1 solar. That may not sound like a lot, but it begins to add up over time. Lets put it into perspective. The game just started and you’re out in the mid. The first tier of droids are approaching the center. You use your tongue on the enemy droids, and you get 4 solar, plus the 10 you would originally get for destroying the droids. Keep in mind, the tongue deals damage twice to a target, once from the initial hit, and the once again when it retracts.

Sadly, as I mentioned before, I believe that Ronimo will be removing this upgrade in the near future (with good reason). But until then, this upgrade is pretty much mandatory for a successful play.

The second upgrade I purchase for the tongue is the Morning Star Piercing. This is the most expensive upgrade for the tongue, but for my build it’s also the most important. It costs a total of 370 solar, but adds 9 damage per connecting hit, totalling in 18 additional damage per successful tongue. Bringing the total damage to 42, all together. You’re going to want this upgrade as early in game as possible, since 42 damage can be extremely lethal.

The final upgrade will be an additional damage upgrade for the tongue. In this guide we’re essentially grabbing all damage upgrades for Leon, turning him into an invisible guillotine. This upgrade is called the spiked tongue piercing. Its a 3 tier upgrade, costing 140 each tier, totalling in 420 (#420BlazeItYolo) solar. Each tier will add a total of 6 damage to every successful hit. In the end it will total in 60 damage for each successful tongue. Which is a lot. And yes, I did my math right.

With 60 damage on the tongue you’re going to be dealing lethal amounts of damage, not only will you be able to close kills and gank at ease. But when you initiate combat with someone of average health, like lonestar for example, after the tongue hits, they’ll nearly be at half health.

A lot of players like to use the lifesteal or range upgrade for the tongue, but I find these far more effective. With Leon’s mobility and cloaking capabilities, he does not require a form of lifesteal since he can easily escape once things get hairy. And for the range upgrade, I’d take an additional 20 damage over range any day. Why get range when you’ll be sneaking up on your opponents anyways? You’re also faster than half of the other nauts.

Cloak

The cloak is Leon’s signature ability. it’s basically exclusive to him (With the exception of Vinnie’s timed cloak). I find that this ability doesn’t need any upgrades until mid-late game, since it’s already powerful on its own. But we’ll run through the upgrades for it regardless.

The most important upgrade in this build to the cloak is the Surprise Party Mask, it adds a buff of +10 (per tier) to the decloaking slash of Leon (totals +20). Its a 2 tier upgrade that is fairly cheap, costing only 160 solar per tier, totalling in 320. Once in late game, using this buff as well as a 60 damage you can deal 104 burst damage, easily.

The rest of the upgrades for the cloak depend on personal preference and on how the game is going. If you have a lot of DoT going on, I would suggest the Pinot Noir, which is the additional regeneration. And if your team needs help pushing, get the dummy health, and dummy attack. Use your best judgment for these.

Slash

And now for the attack that ties everything together: “Slash”. Leon’s sword is an extremely deadly tool that has caused just about everyone reading this pain and misery in the past. But I will now teach you how to harness the pain and misery and focus it on your unworthy opponents.

The first upgrade you’re going to want to get for the swords will be the additional backstab damage “Backstab Blade”. This will add a total of +8 damage to the sword when you attack a fleeing opponent. It’s a two tier upgrade, costing 180 solar per tier. It is highly necessary to defeat your opponents.

The second upgrade I suggest for the slash, is the “Enhanced Muscle Fibers”, otherwise known as the attack speed upgrade. It’s a two tier upgrade costing 200 solar each tier. It reduces the the time in between slashes by a total of 40%, making Leon much more effective. Theres not much more to say about this other than get it!

The final upgrade that turns this stick into a flaming scythe is the “Chainsaw Add On”, the damage upgrade. Its a total of 3 tiers, costing 630 solar – but it is worth it. It adds a total of 6 damage, and with all of these upgrades, you’ll be dealing 22 damage to each fleeing opponent. The DPS with backstab damage is a staggering 65>. Add that with a 60 damage tongue, and +20 from a decloaking slash, and that opponent will be dead in a matter of seconds.
