Night Trap Perfect Game Guide for Night Trap - 25th Anniversary Edition

Night Trap Perfect Game Guide

Overview

Accurate timeline for a perfect game in Night Trap: 25th Anniversary (Revamped or Retro)

Intro/Basic Info

Like most FMV games, Night Trap could be best described as a series of quick time events with an excuse of a plot. Unlike most other FMV games, this one comes with a cheesy 80’s horror movie as its framing device and a catchy theme song to boot, and it holds up better than most as a result. Add in a couple documentaries and interviews on the historical curiosity of being a less-than-racy congressional scapegoat that led to the creation of the ESRB, and there’s more than enough reason to give Night Trap: 25th Anniversary a look.

Did this game deserve a 25th anniversary edition? Well, let’s not be mean. Instead, let’s enjoy the 80’s charm, get some achievements out of this game, and capture these non-reproducibly violent vampires!

Walkthrough

Night Trap adheres to a very strict script. There are 100 possible Augers/evil family members to capture, and events in the game occur in the exact same way every playthrough. For whatever reason, the timeline is slightly different than the Sega CD version of this game.

There is some variety every playthrough that comes in the form of four color code changes. I’ll detail this in the timeline, but you’ll want to switch the code one trap after you hear the first code change, and immediately after all subsequent code changes (2nd-4th).

Also, beware, it is possible to capture some of the good guys (either civilians or the unfortunately named SCAT Team members), and this will result in a game over or bad ending if you do.

House Layout

The house has 8 rooms you can switch to at any given time, laid out like so:

HALL 1 (Downstairs)
KITCHEN
ENTRYWAY
LIVING ROOM
BATHROOM
BEDROOM
HALL 2 (Upstairs)
DRIVEWAY

Notes
  • The “possible” counter increments when an Auger you can capture first appears. This differs from the Sega CD version where it increments after the Auger can be captured, so don’t fret. Just follow the timeline, and you’ll get a perfect game.
  • The game has some audio glitches. You’ll occasionally have trouble hearing the code change, especially if you pause immediately before. As far as I know, there’s not much to be done about this.
  • The game is pretty generous about mashing to trap an Auger, but I did have some trouble around the LIVING ROOM captures, so I’d recommend trying to be precise in that room.
  • There are places where you can capture non-Augers/vampires. Avoid captures at the following times:
    Time
    Location

    15:30
    HALL 1 (Downstairs)
