How to git gud

Overview

Hey today I’ll explain how to “git gud”

Introduction

Hello, today, I will teach you how to follow the instructions everyone gives you in the discussions. Getting gud.
For us to follow those instructions, we first need to ask ourselves:

What is “getting gud”?

Getting gud is when you should just get better at something, without any explanation. Does this sound like a lazy answer given by people who know how the game works and could easily teach you? Yes. It is. But luckily for you, I’m here to help!
Basically, people use “get gud” for something you can’t really learn by asking. Similar to riding a bicycle, you can watch a thousand videos on it online, but you’ll only learn it by practice, failing, standing up and trying again.

Breaking it down

Basically, that’s exactly what you should do. Try the game a lot, I had about 200 runs personally before I completed the game with my first character. Those were 200 runs of pure pain and death, often at floor 4 in particular. Man I hate that place.
As time moves on, you will get better, learn enemies and bosses their attack patterns and dodge them quite easily. I often get through the first and second boss without getting hit at this point.

Some advice-ish tips

Don’t run into flocks of enemies thinking “They can’t hit me when I kill them first”. Remember; you have to kill at least 5-10 of them per room, doing 5-10 rooms per floor and doing 5 or 6 floors, they win if they kill you. You have less health, and should thus act like that, dodge before attacking. Every half heart counts or armor, looking at you Robot .
Try going around with the Marine, he’s argueably the best character to start the game off with. He has good accuracy, starts with extra health and deals ok damage for a starter gun. Also a free ammo drop once, mhmm. Don’t get me wrong, feel free to try other characters if they suit your playstyle more, I just think the Marine is the best pick if you are out of clues how to progress or find the Gungeon too hard in general.
Don’t rush the game, don’t try to complete it in 2 runs. You won’t succeed. Try to sit back, always be carefull, get hit as little as possible, it’s okay to die. That’s what this entire game is built around, dying. You’ll die a lot, and that’s fine, just rerun, unlock some NPCs, guns, items, whatever.
Don’t overthink, just dodge. If you are behind cover, that’s great. If you’re not, don’t always try to get behind cover, if you’re being shot at, it might be best to just dodgeroll around and dodge it instead of finding cover to hide behind.
Save your ammo, be sure to have a full or nearly full gun that does good damage, you don’t want to think about switching guns and stuff in the middle of a boss battle. Try taking out easier rooms with a weaker gun or your starter gun which has unlimited ammo.
Try creating chokepoints or luring enemies into places that make it easy for you to dodge while also hitting them.

Conclusion

I was going to make a joke guide on the “git gud” spam in the discussions here, but hey, it turned out better than expected.
If you have any questions, or things that should be added, feel free to comment.
