Sean Diaz
“It’ll be fine, Daniel. There’s nothing we can’t do… as long as we’re together.”
— Sean to Daniel in “Roads”
Sean Eduardo Diaz (born August 15, 2000) is the playable protagonist of Life is Strange 2 and a minor character in The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit.
After a tragic incident results in the deaths of his father, Esteban Diaz, and the police officer who took his life, Sean is forced to run away from his home in Seattle with his brother, Daniel Diaz. In fear of the police, he intends to reach their father’s hometown of Puerto Lobos, Mexico, all while attempting to conceal the emergence of Daniel’s mysterious supernatural power.
Sean is described as “creative, sensitive and protective” in official marketing material.
Sean’s creative side is shown by making drawings in a sketchbook his father had purchased, who seems to have encouraged Sean to draw.
His protective side is shown when Daniel is getting harassed by their neighbor, Brett Foster, for spilling zombie blood on his shirt. Sean can defend his little brother and attacks their neighbor for cruelly insulting them. After he runs away from home with Daniel, he becomes more protective of him on their journey to Puerto Lobos.
During “Roads” , Sean has short, cropped dark brown hair and wears a maroon beanie with a yellow logo on its rim (while walking home from school). He wears a grayish-blue zipper pocket hoodie with a “WOLF SQUAD” logo over a white T-shirt, coupling this with grey khakis and a reddish-brown belt with its strap hanging out from underneath his hoodie. On his feet, he wears grey running shoes with blue laces and green markings.
By “Rules” , and during The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit, Sean’s hair has noticeably grown – his formerly short bangs now reaching his mid-forehead. While in the Willamette National Forest, he wears a brown fleece-lined, borg collared corduroy jacket over his hoodie. During his stay at his grandparents’ house, he wears a light orange quarter-zip pullover on top of his hoodie. His khakis have begun to develop holes at the mid-thighs and kneecaps, and he now wears sturdy brown hiking boots. After spending some time at his grandparents’ house, there is a blue patch sewed onto his pants.
During the opening flashback in “Wastelands” , Sean wears a grey t-shirt with a logo reading “NYC-UK” alongside orange boxers and white socks. In the present day, Sean’s hair has grown further, his bangs now almost touching his eyebrows; optionally, Sean can have his hair cut by Finn, resulting in a mohawk. He still wears his “WOLF SQUAD” hoodie, which shows several signs of wear; multiple holes have developed in the fabric, the logo has several cracks, and the collar has been ripped and stitched back together. A patch depicting what appears to be the Sigil of Baphomet is sewn onto his right shoulder. His grey khakis now have more patches, including one that reads “SPACE FU**UPS” on his back pocket and another depicting a skull embedded with knives. While in his tent, Sean wears a grey graphic t-shirt, green boxers depicting tadpoles and a frog alongside the word “HI!”, and dirty white socks. He also wears a multicolored bracelet on his right wrist. Optionally, Sean can get a tattoo of a wolf or three marijuana plants done on his right arm by Cassidy.
During “Faith” , Sean’s hair has been shaved to a buzzcut, as well as having a bandage over his damaged eye that left him half-blind. During his time in Sacred Hope Hospital, Sean wears green hospital garbs and white socks. When he escapes the hospital, Sean wears his recovered clothes. While walking to Havens’ Point, Sean has his hoodie in his backpack to show his grey graphic t-shirt, as well as being partly sunburnt. After being picked up by Karen and having a shower, Sean wears his khakis with a clean white t-shirt and red boxers with blue whales on them. While infiltrating the church, Sean puts his hoodie back on, as well as wearing a black eyepatch provided by his mother.
During “Wolves” , Sean’s hair has grown back to a stage that is slightly shorter than in the episode “Rules”, but still longer than in the episode “Roads”. He briefly does not wear his signature hoodie in favor of a dark grey and brownish baseball T-shirt and sports a grey bandana with light brown detailing hanging loosely around his neck to mid-torso area, but still retains his patched up grey khakis and hiking boots. He has also started to grow a bit of facial hair.
Daniel Diaz
“If it’s bad, then… why did you do it?”
— Daniel to Sean if caught stealing in “Roads”
Daniel Felipe Diaz (born April 11, 2007) is the deuteragonist and younger brother of Sean Diaz in Life is Strange 2. He also makes an appearance as a minor character in The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit.
Following a tragic incident where their father Esteban Diaz was killed, Daniel and his brother are forced to run away from their home city, Seattle. In fear of the police, he and his brother flee intending to head to their father’s hometown Puerto Lobos, Mexico, while attempting to conceal Daniel’s mysterious supernatural power.
Daniel is described as “mischievous, trusting, innocent and curious” in official marketing material.
Daniel looks up to his older brother, and his personality is directly influenced by Sean’s actions, whether they are good or bad. For example, if he sees Sean stealing, Daniel will steal a figurine from Brody’s car.
Daniel’s sense of hygiene, manners, and trustworthiness are also based on the examples shown by Sean in the game. He can either develop trust for Sean and respect for authority or a rebellious and occasionally aggressive personality depending on Sean’s parenting choices.
In the Lone Wolf ending, the loss of Sean caused Daniel to become a resentful law breaker, but still showed signs of goodness as he spares a mugger he nearly made shoot himself with his powers.
In his appearance at the end of Captain Spirit, Daniel wears a red-and-teal puffer jacket over a red t-shirt, blue jeans, olive lace-up boots, and grey gloves with red, white, and yellow stripes.
During the majority of “Roads”, Daniel’s outfit consists of a red t-shirt depicting a rocket logo with the words “SPACE MISSION” under a blue flannel shirt covered in fake blood, blue jeans, mint green and black socks, and light blue running shoes. He wears a blue-and-violet watch on his right wrist whose face depicts a purple thumbs-up symbol on a red background. Depending on whether Sean purchases them, Daniel can replace his flannel shirt with a raccoon-themed zip hoodie or his t-shirt with a Washington tourism t-shirt after exiting his bath.
While in the Willamette National Forest during “Rules”, Daniel wears a thin, worn-out light blue puffer jacket over his red t-shirt. If Sean stole the raccoon hoodie in the previous episode, he will have it on under the jacket; otherwise, he will be wearing a yellow American tourism sweatshirt. During their first night at the Reynolds’ house, Daniel wears a light blue pajama top depicting a cartoon girl surrounded by butterflies on its front, paired with light blue pajama pants with patches sewn onto its knees. While outdoors, Daniel wears the same outfit shown in Captain Spirit.
During the opening flashback in “Wastelands”, Daniel wears a bright cyan t-shirt depicting several superheroes alongside action bubbles with the words “YEAH”, “STOMP”, and “MUSTARD”. In the present day, Daniel’s hair has grown, completely covering his ears as well as parts of his forehead. He still wears his red t-shirt, which now has a patch sewed onto the top left side and various doodles, including the addition of “TO PUERTO LOBOS” under the “SPACE MISSION” logo. His jeans are significantly dirtier and have several new patches and doodles, including ones depicting the Eye of Providence and a bear paw. Following Mushroom’s death in Episode 2, Daniel now wears her red bandanna around his neck. During the night, if Sean stole the raccoon hoodie in “Roads”, Daniel will have it over his shirt. Otherwise, Daniel will wear the yellow tourism sweatshirt instead, which now has several doodles including bubbles around the “USA” text and a drawing of an arrow embedded into a target.
In “Faith”, Daniel’s hair was cut to a bowl-cut appearance, and wears a white short sleeved buttoned up shirt with a red t-shirt underneath, black suit pants and light brown loafers.
In “Wolves”, Daniel’s hair has grown back to a stage that is the same length than in the episode “Roads”. He returns to wearing his red t-shirt and Mushroom’s bandana around his neck, along with black shorts and canvas shoes. After being shot by vigilantes at the border wall, the right side of his shirt is torn.
Esteban Diaz
Lyla Park
“Sh*t changes so fast… I get so emo sometimes, wondering what’ll happen to us once we graduate.”
— Lyla Park to Sean Diaz in “Roads”
Lyla Park (born October 1, 1999) is the best friend of Sean Diaz and a student at Peacock High School in Life is Strange 2. Sean has the option to stay in touch with her throughout the game.
Lyla is witty and likes to make all sorts of dirty jokes. She cares a lot about her best friend Sean, and gets really worried when thinking about them going to different colleges and him forgetting about her. The two text each other almost every day (up until the events of “Roads” happen).
Through her correspondences with Sean, it can be deduced that she has a lot of mood swings. She also suffers from clinical depression and insomnia, which only gets worse after Sean and Daniel leave Seattle. Her mental health worsens to the point that she needs to be admitted to a clinic in Bellevue if Sean chooses not to call her in Episode 1. It’s implied by a comment made by Brett about her being “back from the looney bin” that she had been hospitalized in the past already.
As a teenager, Lyla wears yellow hi-top sneakers; distressed black skinny jeans; and a dark grey sweater with yellow, white, and red symbolism. Her nails are painted teal, and she wears a black ring on her right pointer finger. While walking home from school with Sean, she wears a grey backpack with white patterns on its straps and a red zipper accessory.
As an adult in a variation of the “Redemption” ending, Lyla has visible wrinkle lines etched across her face and dark circles around her eyes. She wears a dark pink dress shirt with rolled sleeves, a black belt, grey pants, and black heeled shoes.
Cassidy
“I’m not gonna settle down, no way! That’s how sh*t starts, you know? When you start having things of your own. Things you ought to defend.”
— Cassidy to the other drifters in “Wastelands”
Lucy Rose Jones, better known as Cassidy, is a character in Life is Strange 2. During Episode 2, she is met by Sean and Daniel Diaz at a Christmas tree farm in Beaver Creek, Oregon. She reappears in Episode 3, where Sean and Daniel join her community of drifters and runaways in California.
Cassidy is a drifter who makes some of her money playing guitar in public or by taking part in full-time jobs alongside her fellow drifters, such as her farmhand job at Merrill’s pot farm in California. She likes being “free” and says she prefers the drifter lifestyle because she can never seem to settle down or she becomes antsy. She is considered a bit of a dreamer, constantly complaining about being stuck in boring jobs such as Merrill’s farm, much to her friend Hannah’s dismay.
Cassidy is generally quite sarcastic and jokey, for example, she is quick to make banter with her friend Finn at the Christmas Market in Beaver Creek. After Finn interrupts her conversation with Sean Diaz, he states she is always into “suburban boys,” which he mistakes Sean to be; Cassidy remarks that they should talk about his “scoreboard” aswell then.
Cassidy remains a free spirit throughout, rarely letting anyone get the better of her. She is always trying to sound “true” and “raw”. Past her sarcastic exterior, she can get quite deep sometimes, such as lamenting to Sean that “No-one gives a sh*t about us” at the Christmas Market.
Cassidy has long, straight purple hair styled into an undercut with short bangs. Her hair is gathered over her left shoulder, and several of its strands are wrapped in multicolored dread wraps and bronze hair clips. On her earlobes, Cassidy wears matching black ear tunnels. Around her neck are two hemp necklaces, one grey, and the other red-and-white, as well as a string with two silver keys attached.
Cassidy has multiple tattoos spanning across her body that were obtained from various people she has met while travelling. She has two sleeve tattoos (the left of which prominently features a dragon), as well as tattoos depicting a wolf underneath her left breast, a skull on her right hip, an uprooted tree with a hole in its trunk on her left hip, a bundle of flowers surrounded by wasps on her right lower leg, and a snail on the outer side of her right foot.
In Episode 2, she wears a thick, beige fur-lined parka with wooden toggle fasteners over a black shirt, as well as grey pants covered in grass stains. On her feet, she wears black heeled hiking boots laced with mismatching blue and white shoelaces. Her clothing shows visible signs of wear, including several holes that are mainly covered up by stitches and multicolored patchwork. Several of these patches have designs depicted on them, including a stylized zombie face in black marker, a skull between a fork and knife in white marker, a gas mask, the word “FORCE”, and the Eye of Providence.
In Episode 3, Cassidy wears a purple t-shirt with a white logo, ripped blue jean shorts with various patches (one of which depicts an airplane and another an anthropomorphized orange), and dirty multicolored hiking shoes, as well as a chain hanging from her right hip and bracelets on her right wrist. During the campfire and heist scenes, she wears a striped baja hoodie.
Finn
“I’m just saying you can’t change the past, so you just gotta focus on what’s next. Memories are just lessons for the future.”
— Finn to the other drifters in “Wastelands”
Finnegan McNamara, better known as Finn, is a character in Life is Strange 2. He is first met by Sean Diaz and Daniel Diaz at the Christmas tree market in Beaver Creek during Episode 2 where he appears alongside a female companion called Cassidy. He reappears in Episode 3, where Sean and Daniel join his community of drifters and runaways in Humboldt County, California.
Finn, like Cassidy, is typically sarcastic, and a free-spirit. He is just as quick to make banter and jokes with his friends as he is to insult his enemies. He is very confident and friendly to most people, assuming they don’t have a problem with him, Finn is always just living in the moment and enjoys having fun. He is quite charismatic, supportive, and is often seen as the authority in his group of drifters. Although he is a natural leader, his laid-back nature and ideals leads him to not exploiting this. In a letter found in Finn’s tent from his parole officer, they state how pleasantly surprised they are to see how caring Finn was and how much he wanted to help others.
Despite his mellow and carefree nature, Finn is considered to be reliable, responsible, smart, and thoughtful, which emphasize his leadership and social skills. In Episode 3, Finn is seen to the moodmaker among his group of drifters and other wanderers that work on the farm too since his behavior makes him likable and fun to be around. Merrill, the Pot Farm’s owner, sends most of his orders to the group through Finn, due to him seeing Finn as a trusted worker. Many drifters like Sean and Daniel find work there based on Finn’s recommendations to Merrill. If Sean’s relationship with Daniel is low, Finn often acts the peacemaker between the fighting brothers. Finn also gives Sean advice on how to handle Daniel, such telling him that he needs to accept Daniel is growing up and not to be too strict with him, as well advising Sean to have faith in himself and to be his own person. Cassidy remarked that Finn’s presence help the drifters pull through the their rough lifestyle and Sean commented in his sketchbook that Finn is a “green philosopher” due to making profound comments from time to time. However, Cassidy states that Finn can also be selfish sometimes because he can be too stubborn to listen others’ opinions, although his stubbornness is often caused by good intentions, and will occasionally needs to be called out if he gets a reckless idea.
During conversations with Finn about his family, Finn demonstrates bitterness over his father’s betrayal of him and his brothers, which is one of the reasons why Finn is fiercely independent and caring towards other people. Finn admits to Sean that he greatly misses his brothers, who are still in jail, his efforts to keep his group of drifters together are caused the void they left and his need for a family to protect.
He seems have a reputation for being a player, as Cassidy makes a reference to Finn’s “scoreboard” of partners he’s been with. Finn himself explains to Sean in Episode 3 that he easily obsesses over people he meets and senses a connection with. If Sean stays up to get a haircut, he will have a talk with some of the drifters in which Finn states that he is pansexual, specifying that he is attracted to people, not gender. While he does not use any label for himself, given that pansexuality is attraction to people regardless of gender, it is clear that Finn is indeed pan. This is further evidenced by the fact he is involved in a sexual (although not romantic) relationship with Hannah, while at the same time being explictly attracted to Sean.
Throughout “Wastelands”, several of Finn’s pastimes can be observed, this mostly involves smoking marijuana or reading. He also enjoys wood carving as a way to vent out his emotions and focus, but admits he’s not very good at it. Other activities Finn enjoys is knife throwing, which his father taught him how to do at a young age, and spraying graffiti on trains or other places.
Finn has blue eyes, fair skin, and brown hair styled in medium-length mats, which are adorned with several multicolored dread beads, coils, and clips. Finn has black ear tunnels and has many blue abstract, sketch-like tattoos on his arms, as as well as scars scattered across his body to reflect his vagabond lifestyle.
On his face, Finn has a scar across the bridge of his nose, a circular barbell septum ring, and tattoos including three triangles under his left eye and a line running from his lower lip to his chin. On his left hand, Finn has two silver rings on his index and ring fingers, as well as a circular symbol with two short, slanted lines drawn on his palm. On his right hand, Finn has one silver ring on his ring finger and a circular tattoos symbol with a jagged arrow crossing through it on its back. Letters are drawn on the back of each of his knuckles, spelling out “F R E E P I Z A”.
In Episode 2, Finn’s outfit consists of a grey hoodie depicting the Symbol of Chaos over a red shirt; an olive-colored bomber jacket; dark brown trousers; and sneakers with red, white, and green patterns. His hoodie, jacket, and pants are covered in holes of varying sizes, some of which are covered up with decorative patches. A patch depicting a nuclear explosion below the words “Brave New World” is sewn onto his jacket, and the word “Homesick” is stitched onto the left thigh of his pants. His accessories include a black bandanna tied around his neck and a light-blue-and-maroon pin on his lapel.
In Episode 3, Finn wears a worn, beige t-shirt with a red graphic; dark green socks; and red, green, and white sneakers with a bandage wrapped around the left sole. The legs of his pants are rolled up and have several more holes and patches, and the words “FU*K OFF” are now written above the “Homesick” patch. Accessory-wise, Finn wears his black bandanna and rings alongside two necklaces, bracelets on both wrists, and a sheathed knife on his belt. During the night, Finn wears a grey vest with multiple patches, including a large patch depicting two rats under a stylized “TROUBLE” logo on its back; as well as more bracelets on his left hand.
In Episode 4, if Finn is still alive, he wears a standard hospital gown.
Episode 5’s final cutscene can feature a photograph of Finn with Sean (determinant), likely taken in Mexico. A partially obscured chest tattoo (“URD”) is visible on Finn. When fans asked the artist, Edouard Caplain, what it says, he replied on Twitter with a picture of the unobscured tattoo.
Karen Reynolds
“I know you don’t owe me anything. But I beg you, please, help my sons if you can.”
— Karen in her letter to Claire and Stephen Reynolds in “Rules”
Karen Reynolds (formerly Karen Diaz) is the mother of Sean and Daniel Diaz, the ex-wife of Esteban Diaz, and the daughter of Claire and Stephen Reynolds in Life is Strange 2. She lives in Arizona.
In her photograph in Stephen’s workshop (Episode 2), Karen has long, blonde hair and wears a grey earring and black clothing. In Episode 4, Karen has close-cropped hair and wears a blue jean jacket, a brown v-neck with zigzag patterns, blue jeans, and brown hiking boots, as well as a necklace holding a purple gem. In “Wolves”, Karen wears a sleeveless yellow top with the same jeans and boots, and her hair is slightly longer. In the Redemption ending, her hairstyle changes into a slightly shaved cut and she wears Joan’s rainbow-striped vest over a black top, grey jeans, and black shoes.

Background
Background
Sean Diaz
Sean Diaz was born on August 15, 2000 to Esteban Diaz and Karen Reynolds. Prior to his parents’ separation, Sean used to visit his maternal grandparents, Claire and Stephen Reynolds, at their home in Beaver Creek, where he once broke a vase when he was roughly six years old. In 2006, Sean and his parents moved to a new home at 1452 Lewis Avenue, Seattle. Sometime between 2006 and 2007, Sean’s parents had a second child, whom they decided to name Daniel. Around a year later, Karen decided to cut ties with her husband and family after deciding she didn’t want and wasn’t meant to settle down and be a mother, leaving Esteban to raise their sons alone.
As a family, Sean, Daniel, and their father used to go on outdoor expeditions including hiking trips, skiing at Mt. Baker, and kayaking at Wenatchee River. When they were younger, Sean and Daniel used to have a babysitter named Andrew, whom they mutually disliked. At some point when he was 13, Sean once broke his leg.
Sean is childhood friends with Ellery Winchell, whom he used to play with robot toys together as kids. While attending Peacock High School, Sean joined the track team with Ellery. The two share a mutual love for reading; over the summer of 2016, Ellery recommended Sean a novel entitled Chronicles of the Basilisk – Vol V: Siege Upon Moorkorn by Ariana Simard, which Sean eventually got around to reading and enjoyed.
During the same summer, Sean found a job at a local Z-Mart Superstore as a sales assistant; in his initial application, he mentioned that he had experience working customer service at Esteban’s garage since he was 13. He took classes with his best friend, Lyla Park, whom he regularly joked, skated, and attended parties with, one of which resulted in his first hangover. He and Lyla also participated in gaming sessions with mutual friends Adam Barnes and Eric. Near the start of his junior year, Sean developed a crush on one of his classmates, Jenn Murphy, whom he began texting semi-regularly after Lyla introduced the two.
Daniel Diaz
Daniel was born in April, 11 2007 to Esteban Diaz and Karen Reynolds, and was raised alongside his brother within a house located in the suburbs of Seattle. Sometime within the next year, Karen decided to cut ties with her husband and family to try and find fulfillment in her life, unable to happily assume the role of wife and mother, leaving Esteban to raise their sons alone.
As a family, Daniel used to go on ski trips with his brother and father, as well as binge-watch Top Gear and watch The Lord of the Rings trilogy every Christmas together. Up until the events of “Roads”, Daniel used to regularly play Minecraft on the family’s home console with his friend, Noah. When they were younger, Sean and Daniel used to have a babysitter named Andrew, whom they mutually disliked.
Esteban Diaz
Esteban came from Puerto Lobos, Mexico, a small fishing village in the Mexican state of Sonora. Although he doesn’t like to talk about his past (saying “What happens in Mexico, stays in Mexico”), he often reminisces about a plot of land he owns in Puerto Lobos and hoped to go back there one day with his sons after his retirement. According to Esteban, he was the “dodge-ball champ” of his high school.
Esteban is an enthusiast when it comes to working on cars. On March 28th, 2009, he received an “Automotive Service Distinction” with the Seattle Institute after passing examinations and meeting requirements set out by the Institute. He is now ASD Certified as a Master Automobile Technician, and his certification is displayed proudly in a frame on a wall in his home. Subsequent to his certification, he started his own business, Diaz Auto Master. As a proper petrolhead, Esteban is also a huge fan of one of the most popular car shows in the world named Top Gear.
At some point in time, Esteban met a woman named Karen Reynolds and went on to marry and have two sons with her. As a family, Esteban and Karen used to go cycling together. Though they had a close relationship and rarely fought, Karen began to recognize that she felt trapped in her current lifestyle; after talking about her feelings with Esteban over several months and attending family therapy, she realized that she could never feel content with the life she had. Soon after Daniel’s birth, Karen cut off all ties to her family and left them behind, leaving Esteban to raise their children alone. According to Sean, Karen contacted Esteban a few times before disappearing entirely. Years after her disappearance, Esteban still kept boxes of her belongings stored in the utility room next to his garage.
On an unknown Christmas morning, Esteban pranked Daniel into believing he had only received socks and underwear before revealing that he had gotten him the latest PlayBox. Sean recorded the scene on his phone, which he replays after Esteban’s death at Three Seals Motel.
In a letter addressed to Esteban from a neighbor, Scott Vaughn Foster, dated eight days before Esteban’s tragic death, he was told that his property line overhangs their property and that his children are loud and don’t stay on their side. The letter also states that if Esteban doesn’t build a proper fence then he will be taken to small claims court for damages.
Lyla Park
Lyla is into skateboarding just like her best friend Sean. When he asks her via text message if she’s “ready to grind,” she replies that she’s got her new wheels and will see him at the park. She seems to enjoy skateboarding as she tells Sean she will be there an hour before his proposed meeting time. Her interest in skateboarding is also supported by page 5 in Sean’s journal where he has sketched her hanging out with two guys, one of which holds a skateboard.
She is a fan of a punk-rock band called “Misty Mice”. When Sean tells her he is working on a school night (Monday) just so he can buy a Misty Mice ticket for her birthday, she reacts with complete excitement. The gig takes place on her birthday (October 1st) at The Late Bar which is situated at 203 1st & Pike Street, Seattle.
Like Sean, Lyla also has a job. She seems to work in a coffee shop or other drink-serving outlet as she complains to Sean in a text conversation that a customer wants another mocha.
In a text message, Lyla mentions to Sean that someone named Anna wanted to go with them to an upcoming football game. It is unknown how they know Anna or how close they are to her.
Lyla may be somewhat of a bad influence on Sean as he blames her for being late to school. Like Sean, she appears to enjoy recreational drug use, but she may partake in this more than Sean as he calls her a “stoner” in a text. Lyla is the one who takes charge of sorting the supply of weed for Eric’s cabin party. Sean also comments that she eats too much, which could be linked to “the munchies” – a common side-effect of smoking pot.
Lyla suffers from insomnia and receives sleeping pills from her therapist, as discovered by reading her conversation with Sean on page 10 of his journal.
Daniel Diaz seems to have a crush on Lyla, and Lyla playfully calls Daniel her boyfriend and her favorite Diaz. She scolds Sean when he’s being mean to Daniel.
Cassidy
Cassidy is from Texas. In Episode 3, she tells Sean that she won’t go back home as her meth-addicted father beat up her boyfriend because he wasn’t white, and her brother threatened to shoot her if she dated the same guy. She states her mother “didn’t say squat as usual.”
Around a year prior to Episode 3, Cassidy met Hannah and Finn and joined them in their travels. After Sean helps her with her chores, Hannah describes Cassidy when they first met as “pis*ed at everything… hurt. Unable to commit to anything. Except [them].”
Finn
Finn has Scottish origins and used to live in Dillon, Montana, with his parents and three older brothers who “spoiled him”. His father ran a service selling hot-wired cars, which he enlisted his sons in helping him steal, strip, and sell them. They were eventually caught and their father blamed his sons, resulting in them going to jail. When Finn got out, he left his home behind, bitter over his father’s betrayal and unable to relay on his older brothers since they were servicing jail time, and began to travel. He soon met and became quick friends with Hannah at an abandoned house, and they decided to travel together. Sometime in 2016, Cassidy joined their group, followed by Penny during their time in Humboldt County.
Sometime after his release from prison, Finn met a PO named Kareem. Despite a confrontational first meeting, they eventually became friends and remain in semi-regular contact. On October 18, 2016, Kareem sent a letter from San Diego, thanking Finn for teaching him that “on the other side of [Finn’s] pain and anger, [he] wanted to learn and help others who feel alone in the world without friends or support”.
His plans for the future entail a “kick-a*s beach house in Costa Rica” with sunshine, feet in the sand, and a big ocean view. He sees his group of drifter friends as living out there with him, drinking cocktails from coconuts.
Karen Reynolds
Karen is the only daughter of Claire and Stephen Reynolds. She grew up in Beaver Creek with interests in art, poetry, and photography. Through the personal belongings found in her bedroom, she is implied to have not enjoyed life in her small town; she wrote poems and letters expressing her loneliness and desire to leave, owned a book about travelling the world, and kept a bus ticket from Oregon to New York hidden in her CD player. When she was younger, Karen had a pen pal named Emma whom she bonded with over their loneliness; by 2010, Karen started renting Emma’s apartment in New York, but is indicated to have struggled with paying her back.
At some point in her life, Karen moved to Seattle, where she married Esteban Diaz and had two sons with him: Sean and Daniel Diaz. She loved Esteban deeply and didn’t fight with him often; when they did, she would light a cigarette to calm down and he would “come over and ask for a drag”. She often did activities with Sean, such as going camping in Vancouver with him alone and teaching him to ride because Esteban couldn’t. After giving birth to Daniel, Karen began to feel as if “[her] own life was slipping away”; she talked about her feelings with Esteban and her parents over several months and attended family therapy, but came to the realization that she could never feel content with the life she had.
Karen mutually agreed with Esteban that she would leave her family and start off to lead an independent life; although she wanted to contact them again multiple times, she ultimately decided to stay distant in hopes that they would forget about her and move on, only contacting Esteban a few times before disappearing entirely. After she left, Karen decided to pursue her dreams as a poet in New York and ultimately failed; after not meeting the deadline for her poetry manuscript “The Other Way”, she was dealt a debt of $10,000 from her publisher, Ravensbury Press. Karen contacted Claire and Stephen to help repay her financial debts, but rejected them after they offered to on the condition that she return home. Karen would go on to only make contact with her parents once by phone call and six times by letter over the next decade.
After failing in New York, Karen met a woman named Maggie who had a “tough life” down in Florida, who introduced her to the Arizonan desert community of Away. Karen settled down in the community, and would live there long after Maggie’s departure up until the events of the game. Currently, Karen writes advice columns for Desert Life Weekly for a living, which have become notably well-received by their readers.

Associated Deaths
Associated Deaths
Sean Diaz
Sean can shoot Lisbeth for manipulating Daniel and hurting them both or to force her to get out of the way of the church’s doors. If Daniel is intent on killing her, Sean may kill her himself to prevent Daniel from becoming a murderer.
Daniel Diaz
Daniel unintentionally uses his supernatural power to knock him back after Matthews kills his father.
Daniel can kill the cougar by mutilating it with his supernatural power after it kills Mushroom.
Depending on Sean’s choices in the past episodes, he will use his power and murder Lisbeth for manipulating him and hurting Sean.
If Sean chooses to either surrender or cross the border and Daniel’s morality is low, Daniel will either force Karen’s vehicle forward and crash through the blockade or exit the vehicle and use his powers to attack all the police officers present at the border, including Agent Flores. It is assumed that she and the other officers did not survive this attack.
Daniel will try and smash him and Sean’s way through Mexico if Sean chooses to surrender while their morality is too low but because of Daniel smashing their way through forcefully and the police shooting at them, Sean was shot in the neck.
Should Daniel be asked to attack the officers during their escape from the El Rey Police Station, Daniel can snap their necks. In the Lone Wolf or Blood Brothers ending, Daniel will uses his powers to attack the police officers blocking their way, presumably killing them.

Symbolism
Symbolism
Sean Diaz
Sean is heavily associated with the wolf, which is depicted on his favorite, most-worn hoodie. Though none physically appear, wolves are referenced several times throughout the first three episodes of Life is Strange 2. Following the making of any decision with consequences, an animation depicting a large and a small wolf running together is played in the bottom right corner, the opacity of either wolf changing depending on whether the said decision will impact Sean, Daniel, or both. In addition, the brothers refer to themselves as wolves and enjoy howling together like the animal.
As a spirit animal, the wolf symbolizes raw emotion, a deep connection with one’s instincts, and an appetite for freedom, as well as feelings of vulnerability and danger.
Daniel Diaz
Like his brother, Daniel is heavily associated with the wolf. The wolf symbolizes raw emotion, a deep connection with one’s instincts, and an appetite for freedom, as well as feelings of vulnerability and danger.
Daniel is also associated with raccoons, including within Sean’s sketches and through the raccoon sweater that Sean can steal for him at Bear Station. Raccoons are known to symbolize curiosity, resourcefulness, questioning, adaptability, and self-defense, as well as personal transformation.
While Daniel frequently expresses his desire to be a wolf, he is more often associated with the raccoon during “Roads”, which may be a metaphor for Daniel having ideals that he wants to live up to but has not yet reached.
Esteban Diaz
Like his sons, Esteban is associated with the wolf. During Sean’s story to Daniel at the end of “Roads” and the beginning of “Rules”, the events of the brothers’ journey is retold with the family substituted with two wolf brothers and their “papa wolf”.
As a spirit animal, the wolf can represent feelings of vulnerability and being threatened, as well as being misguided by one’s instincts.
Cassidy
Cassidy is part of a collective idea that all of the Trimmigrants are a pack of wild hounds. In the “Previously on Life Is Strange 2 Episode 3-4” the exact breed of her animal representation appears to be a Irish or English-Setter.
As a spirit animal, the hound represents loyalty and devotion. Cassidy doesn’t display any of these traits clearly, likely due to her life experiences that led to her lack of trust in people; however, she does seem to have found devotion in her new group of drifters. Some fans believe Cassidy and the Trimmigrants represent growing up and making your own choices. People with the hound/dog as a spirit animal are said to be natural guides. Finn is able to show this more due to his authoritative position, and Cassidy and the rest of the Trimmigrants help the wolf brothers to find work, raise money, and prepare them for the world better.
Finn
Finn is part of a collective idea that all of the Trimmigrants are a pack of wild hounds. In the “Previously on Life Is Strange 2 Episode 3-4” the exact breed of his animal representation appears to resemble a Neapolitan Mastif.
As a spirit animal, the hound represents loyalty and devotion. Anyone with a hound as a spirit animal is said to be a natural guide of sorts. Finn is shown to constantly help others: he acts like a second older brother to Daniel, is willing to talk to anyone who feels lost, and talks about a better future for him and his friends to give them hope when they need it most. Furthermore, Finn is often considers the leader of the drifters and is even referred to as the “leader of the pack.”
If Sean kissed Finn in the opening cutscene for Episode 4: Faith Finn’s animal representation is depicted as a type of terrier dog, though the exact breed is still unknown.
Edit: A patch depicting what appears to be the Sigil of Baphomet is sewn onto his right shoulder
Actually, the letters around the pentagram are ‘SFART’ which is short for South Fork American River Trail – a location in California near the Folsom Lake. There is a popular place for rafting called Satan’s Cesspool so I guess this patch is just a souvenir from that place.

Sean and Lyla
“No way distance can tear us apart. We’re freakin’ fighters!”
“Yeah, you’re right… Best freakin’ fighters forever.”
— Sean and Lyla’s response in “Roads” (determinant)
This article is meant to give a deeper and more detailed look at the relationship between Sean Diaz and Lyla Park and its development throughout Life is Strange 2.
Sean also comments that she eats too much, which could be linked to “the munchies” – a common side effect of smoking pot.
Morality and Brotherhood
The game tracks the impact of how Sean’s decisions affect Daniel in two different ways: Morality and Brotherhood.
Morality affects how Daniel behaves towards others and his ability to perceive right from wrong. Watching Sean behave compassionately and avoiding committing crimes will raise his Morality, with High Morality seeing Daniel behaving more calm and compassionate. Daniel seeing Sean behave selfishly and ruthlessly will cause Daniel’s Morality to decrease, with Low Morality seeing Daniel ultimately becoming aggressive and selfish.
Brotherhood reflects Daniel’s relationship with Sean, specifically how much Daniel trusts him. If Sean is supportive of Daniel and makes decisions that Daniel approves of then it will lead to High Brotherhood, meaning Daniel will have a warmer relationship with Sean, he’ll trust him and be more willing to defer to his judgement.
Sean being harsh, neglectful or mean towards Daniel will negatively impact Daniel’s Brotherhood, with Low Brotherhood Daniel’s relationship with Sean is more strained, meaning he’s more likely to defy Sean or generally behave dismissively towards him.
Decisions made by Sean are capable of increasing one and decreasing the other simultaneously, for instance Sean telling Daniel to continue his studies will positively affect Daniel’s Morality but negatively affect his Brotherhood.
