Overview
Please note while the principles are the same this guide contains some out of date information and will need updated eventuallyâ„¢
Introduction
Say you are the type of person who feels that aiming is unimportant. That you are the type of person that somehow keeps dropping their coins on the ground and need a search party to find your lost change. That you end up looking in dark places but your torch keeps falling off the underbarrel of your gun and you badly need light to shine exactly where you are pointing at. What are you to do?
Well by the end of this guide hopefully you will have the knowledge to firmly attach that light to the upper receiver of your gun. Editing .kit files for Ground Branch is similar to editing .ini files in most games. If you know what you are doing it’s simple enough but if you have never done it before it may be hard to understand. So here’s a pic by pic process on how it’s done.
The Idiots Guide to .kit file editing
So long story short, rather than try to describe this in words I felt it was better to just show everyone.
First pick your raifu you wish to use. You may want to attach a scope and/or attachments to areas you wish to change but for this scenario I am just keeping it simple to create a classic.
Next up you want to jump over to your local Ground Branch folder. You typically find this in C:UsersYOURUSERNAMEDocumentsGroundBranchLoadouts
Open up NoTeam.kit
You will likely want to use notepad for this or the equivalent if you don’t have it.
Now you will find yourself with a wall of code. Do not worry yourself so much with that. Look for the name of your weapon. CTRL+F “PrimaryFirearm” is your friend here. Look for the highlighted text.
Then override it with the following “RailAttachment:BP_TacLight_Rifle” so it looks like so.
Then go in game and see your perfected raifu.
Simple enough no? I’ve made an example file of an edited gun for you to use/play with. [link] Just extract this C:UsersYOURUSERNAMEDocumentsGroundBranchLoadouts
All this really is knowing what lines go where and knowing the filenames of the various attachments of weapons.
To do
I’ll probably make an FAQ section at some point but in meantime note that:
- Changing weapons via loadout menu will override your guns and only way to get an edited weapon back is to modify the .kit file.
- As hilarious as it sounds, I do not recommend attaching night vision scopes to handguns.
- Due to rendering issues, while attaching 8 or more tactical lights to your gun will turn a night map into day for yourself it will not for any teammates no matter how hard you wish to become the modern Lighthouse of Alexandria.
- I was going to post a list of attachments and their names for ease of use but I decided to go make tea. I will get onto this once I pass gin.
