Old Paladins / Evolution of Paladins for Paladins

Old Paladins / Evolution of Paladins

Overview

Hi, everybody. In this guide, we’ll dive into the history of Paladins from the very beginning (2015) to today (2020). I released a video in which I tried to tell everything as clearly as possible, put all the information on the shelves. There was a lot of information, so I tried to summarize the entire video in the guide. But for a more complete and deep understanding of this topic, I recommend watching the video.Enjoy reading or viewing.

Introduction

Long ago, paladins had huge maps. There were 3 maps: beach (Temple Isle), winter (Glacier Keep) and forest (Enchanted Forest).

The game changed very quickly. There were a lot of updates, patches. In patches 30 and 31 it was decided to split the maps.

After these, it was decided to split them into smaller ones, and a group of such small maps was named – locations.

Hi-Rez got creative with adding Easter eggs to each of the maps. And also added mode with portals.

Glacier Keep

This location consists of 4 maps: Frozen Guard, Ice Mines, Snowfall Junction and Frostbite Caverns.

Frozen Guard

Ice Mines

Glacier Keep [remote map]

Now these Easter eggs have been replaced with new ones. At the same time, the Easter egg “Glacier Keep”was removed.

Temple Isle

Temple Isle consists of: Frog Isle, Jaguar Falls, Serpent Beach.

By the way, Serpent Beach used to be in the daytime version, but in patch 38 the developers changed the time of day.

On Frog Isle, for the place of a full-fledged map with primitives (Easter egg), the usual picture is stretched.

Easter eggs is removed after the rework of this map. This is how this Easter egg looked before the map update.

There were also locations that were added after splitting the maps.

Locations added after splitting maps

Quarry

Splitstone Quarry

Foreman’s Rise

Crosswind hold

If we go to the cliff on Stone Keep, we will see houses at the bottom.

If in “Magistrate’s Archives” we approach the cliff, we will also see houses.

Stone Keep can be seen from the Trade District.

It follows from this that “Stone Keep” and “Magistrate’s Archives” are located on the hill. And at the bottom is the “Trade District”.

Stone Keep and Magistrate’s Archives are connected by a bridge that either goes in a straight line, or there is 1 more map between them that has not yet been presented.

Possibly this unknown map from test maps.

In Patch 70, the loading screen image, there was an unknown map.

The same map could be seen on the main screen, in the windows. (70 patch)

Also, it can be seen when there is no offer of the day.

Most likely this map is located not far from the “Trade District”.

Deleted maps

Glacier Keep – was a separate map. Removed for a reason unknown to me.

Frostbite Cavern – excellent map, removed due to the fact that the “payload” mode was removed

Hidden Temple – removed for the same reason.

Outpost – removed for the same reason.

The Town

I have highlighted this map in a separate chapter. It appeared in 2015, and was removed the same year.

The Town is 2 maps in 1. Serpent Beach + old Timber Mill

There was a boat in The Town, which was eventually carried to the Enchanted Forest, and then to the Fish Market. But with the alteration (update) it was removed.

There is a statue similar to Dredge in The Town.

Portals

After splitting the maps, a mode with portals and a separate room were added to the game.

The mechanics were like this. At the beginning of each game, one of the maps was randomly selected. The match began, all players had to enter the portal and teleport to the map.

After that, 1 match started.
If you died, you reappeared in the room, entered the portal, and reappeared on the map.
After the round ended, the entire team was teleported back to the room.
After that, the next map is randomly selected.

This all lasts until one of the teams wins.

PvE «Viktorious»

Victor was chosen by default, for everyone.

The match was played on the old “Primal Court” map. The score was up to 5. The Map was shrouded in a fog that narrowed to the center. Each round went on until 1 survivor remained.

Old mode with a large payload.

The team gathered at the point, captured it, after which a payload (npc) appears, i.e. it could be destroyed.

You need to take the payload to the enemy base. After being shot, the payload should destroy 2 enemy walls. If it was possible to do it, then the team won.

Payload

This mode is a normal siege, only there were other maps for this mode. There were two teams, “defense” and “attack”.
Attacking team – comes very early, 2 team is waiting.
Defense team – must deliver the payload to its final point.

Datamining

I managed to find an old Paladins datamining. It had old mini maps. And most of them were in the game.

There were also unknown maps. Perhaps we will see them in the future.

(Temple Isle; Enchanted Forest; Timber Mill; Outpost; Glacier Keep; Primal Court; Hidden Temple; Frostbite Cavern)

There was also an old animation for destroying cards.

Probably, this animation is related to chests and “essence”. Previously, cards dropped from chests, and if they were repeated, they were replaced with essence.

Other facts

Unusual reflections on maps.

On the Abyss map, in reflection ([HDRi] environment map), you can see the Abyssal Spire.

Exactly the same reflection, there is also on the Port of the Marauder in the crystal.

Still in the game.

There is still grass in the game, in the “Tutorial map” mode.

There are old items left from the goods store. I determined this with the help of a bug that is called in the “spectate mode” (I talked about this in more detail in the video).

end

Well, here we are at the end of this guide.

So, I highly recommend watching the video, in it I tried to tell almost the whole story of Paladins as easily as possible.
