How to move your save file between computers easily.

Overview

A quick guide on how to painlessly and quickly move your save file between different computers.

Transfering saves

Don’t you wish Dark Souls 2 save data was uploaded to the cloud? I do…but with this guide you will be able to use your favorite OP character on all of your steam-enabled computers.
First off, you need to download the program soulsaver, which you can get here: [link] (edit, i heard this doesn’t work anymore, try this: [link] . Quick disclaimer, I did not create this program; I just googled around until I found something that would suit my purposes. The program is actually for making backups of your save file in case of some sort of unforeseen error or hard drive failure. I’ve never really used it for it’s intended purpose, but it seems easy enough to use, so go right ahead if you want!

All right, so now that you’ve got the program all you need to do is double click the exe file and a small window will open up. Click inside the white box next to “saves path” and another window will open up showing 2 files, a folder with a long string of letters and numbers and a file called graphicsconfig. The folder contains your save file; mine was titled DARKSII0000.sl2.
As you can probably see the default path for this folder is C:UsersXXXAppDataRoamingDarkSoulsII , so I suppose if you felt like it you could just use windows explorer to get there and not even need the soulsaver program. I prefer doing it this way because I believe appdata is a hidden folder and I didn’t want to bother figuring out how to make it visible and all that…though I’m sure for some of you that is a simple feat.

Anyway, now all you need to do is copy the DarksII0000.sl2 file and paste it somewhere easy, like on the desktop. Note that if you are copying from within the soulsaver program you need to paste before you close the window out. Now you’ve got your tiny save data file and you just need to move it to your other machine. To me, the easiest way to do this is to copy soulsave.exe AND the save file onto whatever device you are using to transfer the save. Any size will do as the save file is about 7kb and soulsaver is about 17kb.
Now put the 2 files onto your other computer and copy the save data. Open soulsaver and click the white box again and paste your save data back into the folder with all the numbers and letters. I suppose you could also just copy that folder instead of the file inside too; it amounts to the same thing.

That’s it, you are done. Now start up Dark Souls 2 on your other computer and you should have all of your characters.

tl;dr — Step 1. Get this [link]
Step 2. Open soulsaver and click the white box by Saves Path
Step 3. In the window that pops up, copy the folder and then paste it to desktop
Step 4. Transfer the folder and soulsaver.exe to your other computer
Step 5. Copy the folder, open soulsaver, click Saves Path box, and paste the folder there.
Step 6. Play Dark souls 2 until you can’t feel feelings anymore.

Hope this helps, umbasa praise the sun.

PS. If you are transferring to a computer with a fresh DS2 install, you might want to make one character real quick and then exit out and do this. I haven’t tested it, but sometimes a game needs to have at least one save file started before it creates the folder where the saves will be held.
