Overview
An in-depth introduction to Eldar Seer, a class recently added to Last Stand by a mod called “Forgotten Emerald”.
What is Forgotten Emerald?
Forgotten Emerald is a Dawn of War II: Retribution mod.
Official steam group – [link]
It can be downloaded at [link]
The aim of the mod is to bring more variety and more difficulty to Last Stand,
while not loosing the fun aspect of the mode.
Current mod state: In Development
The mod is in active development as of 2017-04-01
Current Progress
Currently, the following alterations have been made to the original Last Stand:
- Bloodied Colliseum – harder waves. Mostly altered waves 1-12.
- Space Marine Captain – rework complete
- Lord General – rework complete. Ever been wondering, why is a lord general only having one squad to protect him? Well, wonder no more.
- Chaos Champion (replaces Chaos Sorcerer) – rework complete (mostly). My next target for development is to improve upon Tzeentch favour and Khorne favour gameplay.
- Eldar – rework complete. Several additional pieces of wargear are waiting for when they are needed.
- Tau – several tweaks made to address cheese. Stun spam no more. However, weapon mechanics greatly improved as your Crisis pilot will no more try and engage things in melee. (minimal range for most weapons still applies)
- Necron – NIghtbringer does friendly fire now. With great power, comes great responsibility.
Eldar Seer – General description
If i am to sum up the Eldar Seer to you in a few sentences, it would be this:
- Decent/High offensive capability, depending on your build
- High mobility, even better if supplemented with Group Teleport.
- Low health, however Seers are hardly squishy. Energy shields allow Seers to survive at the cost of their energy, thus punishing bold gameplay.
- Low/Great support capability (utility), depending on your build.
A short introduction to different wargear for the Eldar:
- Weapons – Some have better support stats (i.e. Energy regen), some focus on AP and damage.
- Armors – They are the cornerstone of your build. In a lot of ways, your armor defines your playstyle and “subclass” (no hard limits on gear)
- Accessories – These can either give you additional abilities, giving you increased flexibility – or grant passive bonuses, thus improving your current abilities. Some grant both. The choise is yours.
- Command items – All come with a passive and an active effect.
Warlock
The warlocks have a special symbol, to distinguish that trait from other key traits of the Eldar.
In Eldar Lore, Warlocks are Seers who have walked down the Path of the Warrior and it is their previous experience as warriors that allows them to control their destructive impulses in battle. Their previous experience in combat allows them to develop their combative psychic powers.
In Forgotten Emerald, Warlock (as an archetype) is a build that is mostly used offensively, employing damaging AOE abilities and powerful CC directly.
Elder Warlock
Elder Warlock, on the other hand – is something half-way between Warlock and Farseer.
A powerful Warlock, wise enough to understand the battlefield and the nature of combat around him.
Not just powerful, but also wise – Elder Warlock kit emphasizes summon-support, but in such a way that it can create at least as much – if not more – destruction than an ordinary Warlock can bring.
Elder Warlock no longer has the Runic Shield, which is a signature ability of other warlocks –
instead, he dons the Combat Shield.
When combat shield is discharged (and overflow damage does not kill you), you gain complete invulnerability for some time.
Spiritseer
Spiritseers, in the Eldar Lore, are the Seers are specialized Eldar Warlocks. They are experts in summoning and guiding the spirits of the dead into Wraith Constructs, specifically Wraithguard and Wraithlords.
In Forgotten Emerald, Spiritseers are the Eldar that are more focused on support and summoning rather than damage.
Do not be mislead; That does not mean they do not deal damage, or that they are not useful.
The Spiritseer archetype is presented by the following armors
- Shelwe Mar
- Sheman Tann
Farseer
You most likely remember the Farseer from original Last Stand.
This is similiar, yet not quite.
In the Eldar Lore, Farseer is a former Warlock who has become lost on the Path of the Seer, much like the Exarchs who have become lost on the Path of the Warrior.
In Forgotten Emerald, the Farseer archetype is an Eldar Seer that focuses equal part on support, cc, and AOE damage.
It is presented by two armors:
- Saim Sha’eil
- Slavhreenur
Weapons
The weapon choise for the Farseer was both shrunk and expanded, depends on how you look at it.
First and foremost, a rule of thumb:
No weapons grant active abilities
The weapons are as follows, by category:
One Handed Swords:
- Witchblade of Khaine – a replica of the Wailing Doom, this sword does some nice close combat damage.Comes with built-in searing strikes, which deal additional delayed damage to the target in burning damage.
- Debilitating Witchblade – Provides a nice option to gain energy. Also, has Second Strike, which compensates for its low initial damage.
One Handed Pistols:
- Shuriken pistol – better damage than it used to have, can atleast kill one or two guardsmen per volley.Grants Swift and Combat Expert.
- Fusion pistol – Medium damage, high AP, dmg scales with range (closer = better). Makes for a nice sidearm. Grants Combat Expert and +25 energy.
Two Handed Spears
- Executioner – High damage, armor piercing spear. Grants some max health, which is nice.
- Warp Spear – Medium damage, low attack speed, armor piercing. Does, however, give you and your allies energy regen, together with a bonus to max energy capacity for the Seer.
- Laughing Stave – Medium damage, medium attack, high utility. Can operate in ranged mode, in which you shoot lightning, which knocks back and confuses enemies.
