Overview
This guide helps fixing various bugs and glitches in the game that come from playing the game on a modern PC. This includes: – stuck on copyright screen- Lara dying quickly when touching fire
Introduction
Hey, Fellow Raiders!
If you clicked on this guide, you have problems with this game. If you feel like your game is borderline unplayable, this might help you out. All of these fixes have only been tested on my system, and I can’t guarantee that they will work for you, sorry. But I am telling you what I can. If you have any feedback, leave a comment below and I’ll take a look at it.
The Game doesn’t get past the “Copyright”-Screen
This problem occured for me when I was trying to start the game with a Xbox One gamepad connected. Sometimes, Windows causes severe Lag when you start a game while you have a gamepad connected via bluetooth. The problem also occurs in Tomb Raider Anniversary among other games.
EXPLANATION
The problem is caused by the severe lag caused by Windows’ native Bluetooth drivers. You’re not actually stuck, the game just plays at like 1FPS and it can take multiple minutes (if at all) to get back to normal.
SOLUTION
To solve this problem, you need to head into your Steam settings > Controller > General
then you turn on the Xbox Configuration Assistant as well as the Extended Features. Restart the Computer. After the restart your games should work fine.
This was easily the most irritating problem I faced. Without the solution above I always had to connect the controller, start the game, turn off the controller, then turn it back on as soon as it was past the copyright screen.
120/144Hz issues
The game also has various problems when you set it to higher framerates than it was designed for. The problems I found were:
– Lara sometimes doesn’t grab onto ladders and ledges the right way
– Lara dies basically immediately after touching poison gas or fire
– You can’t controll the Tesla Gun in Kazakhstan
– The camera moves too fast
EXPLANATION
The only reason for these problems I could come up with is that the game might check various things per frame. So for example, Lara might have a set damage value per frame when she’s standing in poison gas or fire. Since the game was designed for 60hz and 60FPS, the developers set a value that would feel managable at these framerates. When you turn the game to 120/144Hz you basically double the rate at which she takes damage, hence she dies in like half a second.
SOLUTION
Set the game to 60Hz in the game settings or the setup program.
Conclusion
A lot of these Problems come from the game being developed in the early 2000s. I really hope that I was able to clear up some things.
All of these fixes can be applied to Tomb Raider Anniversary as well.
Happy Raiding!
