Overview
Every item that can be scrapped or crafted is listed here. Weapons, ammo, consumables and all the basic material items you find lying around the game. Includes detailed recipe locations.
Guide Layout And Info
This guide is essentially a list of items and all the materials involved, for everything that can be scrapped and/or crafted. I couldn’t find a complete list anywhere, so here it is. I’ve included notes for the more unique items, how they work and where you can find them.
First, it should be said that the frequency of certain items varies per map and might be affected by which events are happening. Regardless, it’s possible to find every item on any map at any given time, with the exception of a few late game weapons and recipes. You will probably notice that some items are more common than others as you progress.
I’ve separated all items into 3 main categories:
- Miscellaneous Items: These are items that can only be scrapped for materials, including Broken weapons. The run-of-the-mill junk.
- Weapons & Ammo : Worn or crafted weapons (no difference when scrapping).
- Consumables : Food, medicine, bandages etc.
If you are new to the game and don’t want to spoil the recipes you discover for the time being, you can stick to the first 3 sections since they list basic items only. Check out the Weapons & Ammo, Consumables and Extra Recipes sections later on if you need, once you start upgrading your stations and progressing a bit.
This is my first guide (initially meant to be an item list really), so suggestions or feedback of any kind are welcome 🙂
Note: Excluded from this guide are quest items, useless junk items and “Special” items since they cannot be crafted or scrapped, only collected. Do with them as you please.
Need Specific Materials?
Every item that can be scrapped in the game has 14 basic materials you can gain from breaking them down. Let’s call them.. Parts (9) and Food Ingredients (5). Each weapon, broken or not, gives you its respective weapon frame(s) when scrapped. These are covered in the next sections, but grab the ones you like depending on your playstyle.
You will find your bag to be full quite fast if you just grab everything you find, so I’ve listed the best items by material (with a few uncommon items that should be prioritized when found) should you want to focus on one in particular. The full lists are in the following sections. If you are looking for specific materials, here are the ones with the highest counts.
Note: This section might improve as I replay the maps even more and pass more days. Firewood seems to be the most inconsistent item so far for some reason. Sometimes it’s everywhere on some maps, other times I can go hours and only find a couple. But otherwise, everything else here has been pretty consistent while playing. Just keep in mind that item frequency can still vary to some degree.

Boxes of Stuff
The types of material in each “Box of Stuff” are the same depending on the color. However, the amount of materials can be random. Each one basically represents one of the three crafting stations and some of their related materials. Even the low count boxes are better than any other item you come across, so always prioritize them.
Various NPCs, friendly or not, can drop boxes as well, like the hostile squads that eventually patrol maps for example. The drop rate seems to be somewhat inconsistent, sometimes you can get 3 in a row or none at all. The boxes you receive from “beggars” do not give you more materials based on the quality of the item you give them, unfortunately. There’s a chance they can drop their box when they die.
Once you’ve progressed the story and are properly equipped, you can start seeking and taking out deaths squads and collecting more boxes if needed.
Note: Apart from the Boxes of Stuff, the only other item in the game that can have different contents are the Chemistry Vials. It depends on the vial’s condition (though the item name is identical). I’ve included my own model descriptions next to their names in the next section. Vials are very uncommon in general, but I thought I’d mention it anyways. The unbroken vials can only be found in the Science Lab in the high school (6-7 usually lying around, look carefully).
Miscellaneous Items List
Miscellaneous Items
These are all the basic items lying around that serve no purpose other than being scrapped.
Consumables List
Note: 2 of the 4 foods you craft at the station can then be scrapped to gain different materials they were crafted from:
- Nutria Stew doesn’t require Sugar to craft, but does give you Sugar when scrapped. You can do this to exchange 2 Proteins into 3 Sugar if needed.
- Jambalaya doesn’t require Fiber to craft, but does give you Fiber when scrapped. You can do this to exchange 2 Spice into 2 Fiber if needed.
The other two food recipes don’t act the same way unfortunately. Either way, check them out below to see the exact material exchange/loss.
A few things learned while collecting food after so many hours:
- Everything obviously becomes less common as you pass the days, but food especially (maybe with the exception of canned drinks) so always make sure to bring some back when found. You will need those ingredients for the buff recipes later on.
- You might want to grab food containing Proteins since you will go through them rather quickly if you are crafting the main stamina refill, Nutria Stew. I’m often low on Proteins..
- It’s always preferable to scrap the food you find. One crafted Nutria Stew refills more stamina than other food and does not lower your max health (then requiring medicine). You also save/gain more food ingredients in the long run by scrapping them and crafting Nutria Stew.
- Food items do tend to show up more often in kitchens (cupboards, fridges etc.) although not always consistently, otherwise they can be found in a variety of places in the game and the types of food are more or less equally common.
- A few of the larger canned foods have good combinations of ingredients. Canned drinks are very common. Every other type of foods seem equally common for the most part.
Weapons & Ammo List
There are only 2 sources for gun frames: the functional guns themselves or the Broken versions. The only difference is that Broken guns only have one frame each whereas the Worn guns you find (including crafted ones) may have more frames depending on the type, as well as other materials, so try to scrap them before they break.
**I don’t own the DLC at this point, so those 3 weapons aren’t listed here (The Sheriff, The Judge, and the National Guard Knife), but they are basically re-skins of the Nail Bat, the .45 Revolver and the Shiv.**
Note: The “Worn” versions of weapons you find yield the same amount of materials when scrapped as the crafted ones.
Note: The Recipe names are sometimes different than the actual item names, so I’ve placed the Recipe names in brackets.
Note: Ammo boxes you find seem to vary in bullet count, the numbers below are how many you receive when crafting.
Extra Recipes (+ Detailed Locations)
You can level each station up to 10 using various materials, but on top of that each station has 5 extra recipes that can be found. Some are lying around at specific locations, while others are locked in safes. The codes for the safes are randomized so you will have to find them first (can’t use codes from Youtube videos). Check the “Additional Location Info” at the bottom for more details on each item’s location and conditions.
Note: *SPOILER* Both The AR-416 Rifle and Ammo recipe can be found first during the last quest depending on the choice you make, but are also obtainable afterwards See the additional info at the bottom.
Additional Location Info:
Jambalaya: It might be possible to get this when you first arrive in Via Corolla, but The Tower is occupied, so you’d be trespassing (and might get killed). They will no longer be there once you advance the story a bit.
Gumbo: Simple enough, entrance via a hole in the wall on the side of the red house, in the fridge.
Beignet: You can only access this location by advancing the “When The Levee Breaks” questline, which opens the gate in the tunnel. When you exit the tunnel in St-Vincent and approach the intersection (near the NPC), it’s in the only accessible house on the corner of the intersection. It also drops off death squads later on.
Compound Bow: The house with the secret bookcase is occupied by NPCs when you first visit Memorial Lane, there being quest involved. After completing said quest or missing/failling, it will be unoccupied.
Explosive Arrows: You can access the blue house through a boarded wall in the back, for the code. Then, travel back to the Resting Place, through the tunnels hanging left and up in the street next to the truck you will find the safe.
Level Action Rifle: This location will be occupied on your first visit, you’ll have to sneak/fight your way through to it. Expect about 15 NPCs with various weapons.
AR-416 Rifle: You will have to flood the Comms Room instead of the Armory and kill Casey in the process, in order for it to be accessible a moment later. It becomes a random drop afterwards from death squads, I just need to confirm if both the rifle recipe and its ammo recipe drop before completing the final quest. (Getting it is the only way to get the crafting achievements as well, but you can get both the rifle and ammo recipes either way in a single playthrough regardless of your decision.)
AR-416 Ammo: Same as above.
.45 Revolver: You can access this safe during your very first visit to The Shallows by completing a side quest from the first NPC you encounter. You have to complete it before the day ends or she will be gone forever. You can find the code later on in the game from a random spawn in the mansion itself or The Tower in Via Corolla. (need to confirm exact location)
.45 Revolver Ammo: Same as above.
4th And Pain: From the inner courtyard, enter through the right wing entrance of the high school. The nurse’s office is at the end of the hallway (in front of the blocked staircase).
Sticky Proximity Mine: The only way to get this one is a random drop off human npcs. If you haven’t gotten it yet, the best way is to travel to maps where there are death squads patrolling, kill everyone and check next to their bodies. It took me 30 kills or so. I’ve seen plenty since then, so it has a decent drop rate.
Esteemed Mortal: For the code, from the inner courtyard of the high school, enter the east wing and find the Band Room. It’s sitting one of the music sheet stands near the hole in the wall.
Timed Noise Maked Bomb: Pretty simple, just go inside the gym and up the large stands off to the side, there is a ledge you can climb. Make your way through there and find it next to a corpse on the bottom floor.
Samedi’s Hand: The safe is accessed by climbing the outside wall of the house.
