Overview
1.How to Behave in Modern Warfare 3 MultiplayerThis is the most fundamental rule: Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer is a game.It is designed to entertain. It should be fun to play. Do not take it too seriously. Avoid replacing fun with anger and frustration. This may seem like obvious advice, but once hormones are pumping through your brain, you may be tempted to forget it. It’s a game.Stay Calm – Be PatientIf you’re new to online multiplayer shooters, you may experience a tremendous adrenaline rush at first, once you face an opponent.Relax. Try to stay calm.Over time, you will learn to jump a little less high in your chair, you will regain control over your sweat glands and you will stop hyperventilating once someone shoots at your character. This relaxation is important if you ever want to succeed at playing MW3.Be patient. Take it for granted that you suck at first.Perhaps, MW3 multiplayer is the first Call of Duty game you ever played. If so, remember this: you will meet players who have been eating, drinking and breathing Call of Duty and Modern Warfare games for years.2.Never Stand StillAvoid this! Don’t stand still.I had one big problem when I started playing multiplayer shooter games. I was always standing still.I was fascinated by the fact that I could actually control this character on the screen. I could take aim with the gun and fire it, and I could kill the other characters. Fantastic! So, there I stood – waiting. It has been many years since I came across that sentence. However, it is just as relevant today as it was back then.If you want to survive in a game like MW3 multiplayer, you should get your character’s feet moving. Otherwise you will end up like me – like a sitting duck. Here is some simple advice on how to make the most of movement in Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer:I was waiting for that one character to pop up so I could shine with my gun. Of course, there was only one way that could end. I became a sitting duck, an easy bit of target practice for my opponents.Learn the MapsLearn the ins and outs of every multiplayer map. Good knowledge of the maps increases your odds of walking away from all possible situations as the winner. Learn where you and your teammates normally spawn. Learn where your opponents spawn. Learn where the various objects are located (flags, bombs, etc.). Learn where all the entrances and exits to the different buildings are. Learn where you can hide and where opponents are most likely going to hide. Find out where campers will most probably take their position. Learn all possible routes from point A to point B. Learn every shortcut that exists. All in all: be as familiar with the maps as is humanly possible. One way to do this is to study the maps you will find over at Call of Duty Elite.Be a Small TargetBe a small target.Hide behind something or go prone.A cover is not necessarily a cover. That is, bullets can penetrate much of the things that you can hide behind on the multiplayer maps, whether they’re walls, doors or fences. In other words: be careful with what you use for a cover.Be the smallest target possible. Go prone. Or use your environment. Even if a wall does not protect you 100%, it is better to stand behind it than in front of it!Many players will try to shoot at the visible parts of your character. If you manage to hide most of your character’s body behind something, you will make their job a whole lot harder.Sprinting from one place to another can be a good idea. The downside is that it will increase the time between you getting to a halt and setting up aim (there are perks that even this out). Therefore, it is often just as smart to walk from one place to another as it is to run.Stay away from the center of the map if you are moving from one side of it to another. Use the sides instead. In multiplayer shooter games like Modern Warfare 3, the center of a map is often referred to as the “Hot Spot” (or the choke point or a high traffic area). There is an obvious reason for it. Often, the middle of a map is where the action is. If you absolutely, positively, must move through a “Hot Spot” (the choke point or the high traffic area if you like), make sure to sprint. Hug the walls. Run from cover to cover. Try to move in such a way that you’re never far from the next cover.Try to flank your opponents. Do not run straight onto their gun muzzles. It is usually better to take a less obvious route so that you can attack your enemies from the sides or the rear.4How to Become Really Good WithWeapons in Modern Warfare 3 MultiplayerNow, it’s high time we start talking about the very essence of every Call of Duty game: weapons.I won’t just talk about the weapons themselves. I’m going to give you advice on how to get the most out of every gun you use in the game.Go Your Own WayThere are a large number of weapons to choose from in this game. Each weapon has its own characteristics, strengths and weaknesses. As the weeks and months pass by, some weapons will become more popular than others. That does not mean you have to choose them – you don’t have to use what everyone else uses.Instead, try to find your own favorites based on your own experience.By all means – feel free to listen to what others have to say, but do test all of the weapons yourself. Find out what you like and don’t like about them.Weapon PerformanceSome weapons will work in almost any situation. Other weapons have characteristics that make them best suited for certain tasks. After you have gained some experience in multiplayer, you can be the best judge of what kind of weapon works for the various tasks, depending on your own style and strategies. How to improve your weaponYou can improve the weapon’s performance by using various attachments and upgrades called perks. Here are a couple of examples: A Riflescope will help you perform better on longer distances. The Rapid Fire attachment will increase your weapon’s rate of fire. The Sleight of Hand perk will help you reload faster. Firing from the hip with the Steady Aim perk will make the weapon more effective in Close Quarters Combat situations.Weapon ProficienciesIn Modern Warfare 3, you are also introduced to Weapon Proficiencies. They are another way of customizing your primary weapons. The following choices become available to you as you play: Kick – Reduces recoil. Range – Increases the range of your weapon. Attachments – Lets you equip your weapon with two attachments. Focus – Reduces the disturbance you experience on screen if your character gets shot at. Melee – Makes your knife attacks faster. Stability – Makes your gun more stable. Impact – Ensures that bullets penetrate walls and the like more easily. Speed – Makes your character move faster with weapons. Damage – Increases damage done by shotguns. Breath – Allows your character to hold his breath while aiming down sights.Note that some of these options are only available for specific weapon types!Start with one weapon. Get familiar with it. Learn how it behaves. Notice what you like and dislike about it.Then, test it with the various attachments that become available to you. Take care to note the effect of each attachment on the weapon’s performance.Play some matches with your new setup before selecting another weapon or a different attachment.Get a good headset. The sound in Call of Duty games is very good. By using a headset, you can use the power of your ears to hear the movement of opponents, estimate their location and foil their plans.
