Easy Audio to MIDI Conversion for SONAR

Easy Audio to MIDI Conversion

Overview

The quickest way to convert audio to MIDI inside SONAR.

Overview

Converting Audio to MIDI has never been easier. Learn how to utilize the power of Melodyne inside of SONAR.

This feature works with every version of SONAR.

Steam Edition owners just need the Melodyne demo installed.

Adding Audio

  • Open up SONAR
  • Go to the Media Browser and make sure you are on the “Media” tab – Selecting the letter B on your computer keyboard will open and close this view.
  • The drop-down menu below “Media” will give you the different content options for SONAR.
  • The “Move up one level” button allows you to move backwards through the file hierarchy of your computer. Selecting this 2 times will bring you to your Cakewalk Projects folder.
  • Use the Media Browser to locate a mono audio file.

Audio to MIDI Conversion

  • Now, simply drag and drop the clip onto a MIDI Track.
  • You can also drag an audio clip from an audio track onto a MIDI track.
  • Alternatively, you can drag any clip from an Audio Track into a MIDI track. The conversion process is the same and you will end up with a MIDI clip.
  • Once the file is placed on the MIDI track, you’ll see a render process.

The Final Product

As with most automated processing, you will want to check the result. Some editing may be required to clean up the extraction.

This can be done via the Piano Roll View, Staff View, or Event List.

When selecting material to process remember:

  • Melodyne Singletrack (included with Professional/Platinum) is good for MONOPHONIC[en.wikipedia.org] material.
  • Melodyne Editor is good for POLYPHONIC[en.wikipedia.org] material.
