The fishing
Fishing is everywhere where there is water. Only there are not all fish in every body of water and at all times. Most fish have special locations and times.
You need the fishing rod first. You can either choose this from the item menu with Q or directly as a shortcut with the K key.
Alternatively, you can attach a bait to the fishing line beforehand, if you have one. You can do this by opening the item menu with Q (holding Q) while holding a fishing rod and then pressing the R key to switch to the bait menu. Then simply drag the mouse over the desired bait and it will hang on the hook. When your line is in the water you have to wait.
“With a little practice you can directly see what kind of fish you can get if you fish for a certain fish, right-click on it before the wrong one bites and then throw it out again so you save bait.”
As soon as a fish has bitten, you can either use the arrow keys or the mouse to pull the rod in the opposite direction in which the fish is trying to escape (right-up-left).
After a few seconds the fish gets tired and you can catch up with the left mouse button.
You usually have to repeat this a few times until you can pull it out of the water. If the rod creaks, it moves a little or pull in the opposite direction as already described, otherwise the fish will leave.
When fishing, make sure that there is no obstacle to the left and right of you, for example when the line breaks when you touch a stone and the fish is gone. You also have to stand in a place that is not too shallow in the water, since it also escapes when it comes into contact with the ground.
Sell the Fish:
You sell them to the Hunter’s Call at every Seapost
Seaposts are the small islands typically used for Merchant Alliance missions scattered across the map. They look like rocks with a big lantern on top from a distance.

Wreckers
These monsters love darkness and earthworms. Some call them ‘Fool’s Lanterns’ due to their natural lights.
Wreckers can only be found near Shipwrecks.
Requires Earthworms as Bait to catch.
The Blackcloud Wrecker is a unique Fish Variant, because it can only be caught next to Shipwrecks that are inside Storms.
If the fish makes the line touch the wreck while fighting, the line will snap. The best position for fishing is from the wreck itself so the fish is always fleeing away from it. Try to get a spot away from the edges such as a mast spar.

Stormfish
This aggressive ocean fish enjoys leeches. Merrick claims that lightning can strike their long snouts!
Stormfish are found in open waters inside heavy Storms (indicated by the spinning of the Compass and ringing of the Ship’s Bell).
The Stormfish are mostly Region based catches, with the Rare and Night variants being available to be caught anywhere but The Devil’s Roar Region, as Storms do not go there.
Requires Leeches as Bait to catch.
Tip: Shadow Stormfish are most efficiently caught at The Glorious Sea Dog Tavern and Uncharted Island (N-13) as these Locations are not inside any Region. At these Locations, the Fish spawn pool will only spawn Splashtails and the Rare and Night variant of Stormfish. Thus a daytime Stormfish is a guaranteed Shadow Stormfish.
Uralter Sturmfisch: Ancient Isle-Variante vom Sturmfisch.
Küstensturmfisch: Shores of Plenty-Variante vom Sturmfisch.
Wilder Sturmfisch: The Wilds-Variante vom Sturmfisch.
Schattensturmfisch: Der seltenste Sturmfisch. Kann in jeder Region gefangen werden, jedoch hat man die besten Chancen bei The Glorious Sea Dog in der Mitte der Karte oder bei Devil’s Roar.
