Updates & Changes

While talking to Ace-Jr he mentioned that his guide hasn’t been updated in over a year, so in this section I’ll be compiling any changes that I find in the Windows Version through my regular gameplay.

Feel free to let me know of anything you notice not listed here!

  • Missable Content has been changed obviously.

Royal Vessel

After unlocking it during the main story you can find some sidequests related to it that we want to exploit (I did all of these after finishing the main story, just in case you do it straight away and dont find the things I’m talking about).

  • Photo Op: Restaurant.
When taking the boat outside of Galdin Quay Prompto will ask for this Op.

  • Photo Op: Gate.
When taking the boat outside of Altissia Prompto will ask for this Op.

  • Photo Op: Cape.
When taking the boat outside of Cape Caem at some point Prompto will ask for this Op.

  • Photo Op: Island.
When taking the boat to the island where Noctis starts Chapter 14 in, at some point Prompto will ask for this Op.

  • Sidequest: Monster of the Deep.
Keep going on your way to Altissia, eventually Gladio will tell you about a legendary fishing spot.

Now, you may notice that the sidequest will auto complete once you reach the spot, and, if you fish normally, you wont find anything particularly legendary there, turns out there’s a trick to get the Mummy Bass.

  • Fish: Mummy Bass.
You have to start fishing normally (close to the blue spot with a ring on it) and start reeling a fish, once you are in that process of reeling a fish to catch it, dont reel, instead move the fish around the place as bait until the Mummy Bass gets atracted (you will see the red lines as usual), eventually he will eat the fish and now the true catch begins.

  • Sidequest: A Second Sea God.
Accept this quest at the restaurant Maagho in Altissia, once it is completed you will be left with an amazing fishing spot that allows us to fish for the Styrial Bluefin Tuna.

  • Fish: Styrial Bluefin Tuna.
Your target is the yellow dot with a ring that moves insanely fast around the fishing area, after seeing the “circle” it makes you should be able to predict it to throw your lure in front of him, after catching it you unlock a recipe.

  • Dish: Scientia-Style Sushi.
    Catch the Styrial Bluefin Tuna.

Regalia Type-D

So, this one is a tricky one since the Royal Edition of the game adds another Type-D Regalia thats just waiting for you to pick her up.

Original Regalia Type-D

Normally, the Regalia Type-D is available to you after a sidequest once Cindy tells you about it.

For the record I found it on Cid’s garage after beating the game while doing her Sidequests but supposedly it can be done during Chapter 3 if you don’t want to wait too long.

  • Sidequest: Into Uncharted Territory.
After completing this sidequest you will have access to the Regalia Type-D.

  • Sidequest: Kings of the Off-road.
Simply complete the three Test Drives marked on the map to unlock the final upgrades.

Regalia Type-D Replica

Simply complete every Regalia Sidequest given by Cindy and call Umbra to return to the present (after completing the game), then head to Kingslaive and talk to Talcott, who’ll have a sidequest for you.

  • Sidequest: A gift from Cid.
After completing it you will unlock a replica of the Regalia Type-D with infinite gas to use freely in the Crown City of Insomnia.

Missable Content

As you may have noticed, this game is HUGE and full of stuff to do, that’s why the missable content will have it’s own section for easy access, keep these in mind before advancing the story any further.

Also as a suggestion be mindful of the Special ones even if you are reading the other ones Chapter by Chapter.

There are spoilers, obviously…

Special
  • Sidequest: Cid’s sidequests can be missed if the player sells any upgradable weapon before the respective quest.
  • Photo Filter: During Prompto’s cutscene when resting at Longwythe Rest Area choose:
    1. Make Small Talk.
    2. Urge Him.
    3. Act Unsurprised.
At the end of the Cutscene you will receive the Playful Pop Filter.

  • Rewards: If you have not met all 14 allies before starting the Adamantoise Sidequest, minor interactions are missed.
  • Achievement: During your playthrough The Pursuit of Knowledge is the only one you have a chance at missing, lucky us my friend The Horror Network covered that one, and every other achievement like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ boss here.

Simply Ctrl+F “The Pursuit of Knowledge” to find it 🙂

And also, as general advice, play the story normally first and then go back to each chapter to get the stuff if needed, but you do you lol.

Chapter 3
  • Extra: Though this is not missable right now, you can probably go to Lambath Haven to complete the tour A Flower for Iris to save some time for Chapter 7.
Lambath Haven is the last Campground on the way to the Outpost Verinas Mart – Ravatogh at the very last point on the West side of the map.

  • Quest: Pilgrimage – has to be completed before the end of Chapter 4.
Located near the Wis Chocobo Outpost.

  • Sidequest: Photo Op: Disc – has to be completed before the end of Chapter 4.
Take the Regalia from the Coernix Station – Alstor Outpost to the direction for Lestallum, before you pass by the second Parking Spot (Rydielle Ley) Prompto will ask for a chance to take the pic.

  • Sidequest: A Stroll for Two – Accept the invitation from Iris when prompted.

Chapter 4
  • Cutscene: Once the Chapter begins Ardyn Izunia will ask you to follow his car, during this drive eventually he will stop at the Coernix Station – Cauthess Outpost and suggest for the party to spend the night, regardless of which answer you give the party will stop at the outpost, simply interact with the NPCs that are next to you listening to the radio with a Quest Mark on them, speak to Ardyn to advance the Story Quest again.

If you said no to the offer to rest be sure to spend the night anyways to have Ardyn comment on his cameos on Prompto’s photo album.

Chapter 6
  • Sidequest: For the love of Odin make a stop at Malmalam Thicket when prompted, gotta extend every possible milisecond with Iris until mods come to the rescue… be sure to camp with her too!!!

Chapter 8
  • Cutscene: Before boarding the boat from Cape Caem a scene can be missed if you haven’t completed the tour A Flower for Iris at Lambath Haven.
If you have completed it simply approach Iris at Cape Caem for the cutscene to trigger.

  • Item: Take the elevator down at the lighthouse and talk to Cor before boarding the ship to Altissia to receive a Magic Flask.

Point of No Return.

From Chapter 10 to Chapter 14 everything is missable, below I’ll list everything you can do thats worth mentioning (not gonna tell you to grab that potion under the chair or to talk to the kid that wants to fart), be warned though again, EVERYTHING you leave behind is missed.

Here’s a list of worthwile things so you wont miss anything thats actually unique.

Extra: Check the Datalogs section of this guide in case you care about the missable Datalogs found during these chapters or the achievement attached to them.

Chapter 10
  • Datalogs: There are 2 Datalogs spread across this chapter.
  • Sidequests: When the train stops at Cartanica there are 2 Sidequests to take care of.
  • Misc: There’s an Arms Vendor, a Shop, a Restaurant and Lodgings in the train station.
  • Recipe: Chilled Food Tin – Camp at the Fodina Caestino dungeon.

Chapter 12
  • Datalogs: There are 3 Datalogs spread across this chapter.
  • Misc: Once again there’s an Arms Vendor, a Shop, a Restaurant and Lodgings once the train is ready to continue it’s journey to Gralea.

Chapter 13
  • Datalogs: There are 17 Datalogs spread across this chapter.

Chapter 14
  • Datalogs: There are 2 Datalogs spread across this chapter.
  • Recipe: Chilled Food Tin – Camp at the Lachyrte Haven.
Lachyrte Haven is located West of Galdin Quay, past the old fishing spot.

  • Weapons: Purchase the Hyperion Greatsword and Quicksilver Gun at Hammerhead.
  • Sidequests: After leaving Hammerhead and arriving at Kingsglaive Base Camp there will be 3 sidequests waiting for you.
  • Sidequests: Complete all upgrades for the Regalia and talk to Talcott at Base Camp.
If you miss upgrades you can always call Umbra to go back and do them… or wait to beat the game and then do those and return, your choice!

Bestiary
  • The Cup Noodle Quest has 2 enemies from which only 1 can be fought each time, this quest is non repeatable so it requires to use New Game Plus or Chapter Select.

To fight them choose Meat and/or Shrimp.

Comrades
  • If you choose Biggs or Wedge as Outpost Leader at Meldacio Hunter HQ you will permanently miss a Trading Post.

You must select Devon Elkton as leader.

Datalogs

So… as it turns out some Datalogs are missable from Chapter 10 onward.

They are in no way vital to get a feel for the story, but since there’s an achievement related to getting them and I made a guide on missables I might as well finish what I started… ♥♥♥♥ me…
