Fall of the Samurai Traditional Battle Guide

Overview

A strategy guide that teaches the basics to advanced battle strategy.

Basic Unit Types and Usage

The following are the advantages of certain units over others.

Melee Sword Units- Are an all round unit that is equally as good against all units.
Melee Spear Unit- Are extremely effective against cavalry, but are weak against most sword infantry.
Cavalry Units- Are extrmely good against missiles since they take low causualties when speeding towards them to kill them. Also, their high charge bonus does extra damage.
Missile Units- Are good against all infantry units since it can wear them down as the march towards them and then retreat to a closeby, infantry unit. Which will easily finish down the enemy infantry since they are now weak in numbers.

These Units can be further broken down into:

Light Infantry- Fast, quick yet low armor and attack infantry. Perfect for hit and run tactics or shock troops.
Heavy Infantry- Slow, yet powerful with good armor, should be used to do most of the the hand to hand combat.
Line Missiles- Inaccurate, yet fast-firing missile units with high numbers. Should be put on the front lines against a modern army. Also in front line against a traditional army, but remember to enable skirmish mode so the unit doesn’t fall into conflict against melee units.
Light Missiles- Accurate, Slow-reloading missile units perfect for guerilla tactics and skirmish tactics.
Should be put in the second or third line of any army.
Heavy Cavalry- Should be used to flank spearmen and support infantry in the field.
Light Cavalry- Should be used for pursuing fleeing troops and taking down missile units.
Stealth Infantry- Are infantry are that showed be used for ambushes and surprise attacks.
Elite Infantry- The best infantry in the game should be saved for vital times in battle.

Traditional Battle

If you have decided to make a traditional army, rather recommended during early game have the following units in your army:

1 Generals Bodyguard
2 Yari Ki
2 Katana Kachi
2 Yari Kachi
2 Bow Kachi

As you advance you should strive to get:

Bow Ki
Kisho Ninja
Shogotai

Land Battle-Defense

Place your Yari Kachi in front to brace against a cavalry charge.
Place the Bow Kachi behind the Yari Kachi.
Place the Shogatati if you have them behind the Bow Kachi.
Place the Katana Kachi behind the Bow Kachi or Shogitai.
Place the Yari Ki behind the Katana Kachi.
Place the General in the back.
Place the Bow Ki as near the front deployment line to be ready for skirmishing.
Place the Kisho Ninjas in hiding close to the enemy force.
Start the battle.

Start by sending your Bow Ki toattack the enemy in skirmish mode, thus wearing the enemy down. Then use the Kisho Ninjas to silently stalk the enemy, but do not attack or reveal your hidden troops. Wait until the enemy has reached your army and is in range of your Bow Kachi, then command your Bow Kachi to fire or set them in fire-at-will mode. If the enemy makes a cavalry charge keep your Yari Kachi in front, once your Yari Kachi are engaged you may send your Katana Kachi to aid them. If the enemy makes an infantry charge, send your Katana Kachi up front to face them. If the enemy decides to send its missiles to weaken your lines, move your infantry and cavalry back and return fire with your Bow Kachi and Bow Ki, soon the enemy will try to send infantry or cavalry charge. By now the enemy should have engaged you or decided to engage you. Remember to move your Bow Kachi behind your infantry, if charged by infantry.. In an event of a cavalry charge, you will probably lose your Bow Kachi unless your infantry is nearby and your Bow Kachi can run behind them. Once the enemy has engaged all or most of its troops against you, try to move your Bow Kachi to the sides or behind your enemy, this is risky should the enemy try a cavalry charge, but lowes the chance of friendly fire, so this step is optional. Also, try to take out enemy missiles using cavalry charges. Finally, f you have any Kisho Ninjas, that you should have kept hidden as a said before, send a surprise attack behind the enemy, this should startle the enemy enough o give you a slight advantage, once your Kisho Ninja’s fire bombs are used up send them into melee. Finally, depending on the size of the enemy army size, the difficulty of the AI and the efficiency of this plan that is carried out you should be victorious. If you do win, in a campaign pursue and kill as many routing units as you can, so you have less to fight later. However, in a custom battle you might as well end the game, unless you like to watch your units massacre the enemy. On the other hand, if you see that all is lost, in a campaign, retreat as many units as possible to the edges of the map and and make a last stand there so ll the units can quickly retreat to safety. In a custom battle just keep fighting or concede defeat.

Land Battle-Offense

Place your units in the same formation as in defense because it is a versatile formation able to take heavy frontline attacks and quick recoveries from flanking.
Place your Kisho Ninjas near the enemy but make sure they are cponcealed well.
Put your Bow Ki of to the sides of your formation to help provide cover fire.

First sneak your Kisho Ninjasbehind the enemy but don’t give yourself away it is good to use the stealth ability to do this quickly. Then march your formation forward using the move arrows, so you don’t disrupt your formation. Once your missile troops are in range of the enemy, wither them down with your Bow Kachi and Bow Ki to weaken their frontlines, should the send a melee or cavalry charge, use the defensive strategy given above. Should they return fire with their missiles send one unit of Yari Ki to their flanks, this should provoke them to attack using their Spear Infantry this should let you charge your cavalry into the enemy’s misslies. Retreat your Yari Ki from the enemies flank and try to assist the other cavalry in taking out the enemies missiles. Then, as the enemies spear infantry return to attack your cavalry use your Katana Kachi to attack them. Finally send your general and Yari Kachi to attack the enemies cavalry or join in the battle. Finally launch a surprise attack using your Kisho Ninjas, giving you a powerful advantage. If the enemy however is not provoked by your flanking manuover, use your other Yari Ki to flank the opposite side, but do not engage unless attacked then retreat the cavalry and use the defensive strategy above. Then charge your Yari Kachi, Shogitai and Katana Kachi into the enemies missiles, should they retreat continue your charge. Once engaged flank the enemy with your cavalry and engage. Send your missiles to support your infantry and cavalry on the battle field. Finally, mke a surprise attack on the enemies with your Kisho Ninjas.
