Intelligence Report #1 – German Infantry

Overview

This guide summarizes useful information on the German infantry and offers general tipps for Panzer Tactics HD.

Infantry

The many technical accomplishments of the Second World War were paralleled by an increase of the requirements of the infantry. Elite regiments like the paratroopers and sappers had specialist training and equipment, but even the humble private faced greater challenges than ever before, as they were required to master countless weapon systems, including machine guns, bazookas and grenade launchers. The new system of directive control also expanded the number of tasks the soldiers were expected to perform.

German Wehrmacht – Light Infantry

The German Wehrmacht is the standard infantry type. Because of its cheap costs they are ideal to back up heavy machinery or to fight against enemy infantry units. You can use them to keep control over captured airports and cities.

German Pioneer – Special Infantry

Pioneers are very useful against hard targets like tanks. But their attack values also allow you to attack enemy infantry. Best practice is to use them against bunkers as there are only two unit types effective against bunkers.

Infantry may be among the cheapest units in the game, however, they only have a fire range of 1 and are unable to attack planes or ships.

German Brandenburger – Commando Unit

The German Brandenburger are not a standard infantry type but commando units that are used to eliminate enemy officers. They ideally operate undercover as they can only be seen by other commando units or when an enemy unit stands directly on a hex field near the commando unit. Their attack and defense values are not very high. Consequently, direct combat actions against standard enemy units should be avoided at all costs.

German Fallschirmjäger – Paratrooper Infantry

Although they had not been used in battle before, all the major powers in the Second World War deployed paratroopers. It was the task of these elite troops to create bridgeheads behind enemy lines for the attack on conventional troops. The best-known paratrooper deployments took place on Crete (Germans), during the Normandy landings (Americans) and in Dutch Arnhem (British and Polish troops). You can use paratroopers for missions behind enemy lines, because they are the only unit type that can drop off airplanes on any hex field and not only on friendly airfields.

Infantry units are among those units that require the least amount of ammo in the game.

German Sturmtruppen – Elite Infantry

The German Sturmtruppen are best used against other soft targets such as infantry units as they do most damage of all infantry types. Their attack value against hard targets is equally high, but does not surpass that of the Pioneer. Sturmtruppen are not just excellent offensive units. They are also the first choice for ground defense, as they have one of the highest defense values among the infantry units in the German army.

Choose your Infantry based on the current situation in battle. Use the table provided in this guide as reference to make an informed decision.
