The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition Guide

Witcher II Storyline Checklist for The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition

Witcher II Storyline Checklist

Overview

This guide presents the major storyline decisions and their consequences with as little spoilers as possible.

Introduction

I recently finished playing Witcher 2. As it is a complex RPG, I decided to make a guide that will make the decision making easier by providing the consequences with as little spoilers as possible.

This is useful for people who want to check beforehand the consequences of a choice, just so they know where their story will go from there.

Here is the list with all the major decisions:

PROLOGUE

Melitele’s Heart decision

  • encourage Newboy to walk with his underwear into battle, in hopes that the amulet will protect him and he will die. The amulet may be looted from his corpse later.
  • convince Newboy to walk with his armor into the battle: he survives and gives you a tome about dragons. Also if you convince him to give the amulet to you, you get the Melitele’s Heart trinket.
  • Beware that if you tell him that you are unsure about the amulet’s effects , he will not die, but he won’t give his amulet to you. You will need to kill him later for it.

At the Fore decision

  • If you kill Aryan La Valette, his family will fall under the influence of Nilfgaard. Also by killing him and two characters later in the game you will get the Executioner Character attribute.
  • If you convince Aryan La Valette to surrender, you will encounter him later in the game and you will get a chance at earning the Strong Back Character attribute. His family will remain respected in Temeria.

Interrogation with Roche decision

  • If you cooperate with him during the interrogation, you live
  • If you are uncooperative too much, you will get shoot dead

The Dungeons of the La Valettes decision: the At the Fore decision influences who will show up in the dungeon. However, no matter who you encounter:

  • If you go to the torture chamber first, the forced confession that the royal bastards are not Foltest’s can be prevented
  • If you go to the cell chamber first, the forced confession that the royal bastards are not Foltest’s is already signed.

CHAPTER I

To drink or not to drink decision: in Flotsam you are asked by two alchemists if you want to participate in their long term research concerning mutations

  • If you drink the potion, nothing bad happens and it is hinted in Witcher 3 that it even has a positive effect
  • If you tell them that you are no interested, basically nothing happens.

Malena decision

  • If you do not accept the quest, she is simply taken to Loredo for trial and execution. If you accept the quest and you accuse her of working with Squirrels, the same thing happens
  • If you cover for her, she tries to ambush and kill you and you can either kill her or let her run away. No matter what you do, you will not see her again.

Hung Over decision

  • keep the Blue Stripes tattoo and when you import the save game into Witcher 3, Geralt will have it. It does not have a sounding impact overall, just some NPC commenting about it.
  • remove the Blue Stripes tattoo with the help of Triss. You can also remove it later with the help of Philippa or Síle in Chapter II. No bad tattoo anymore to worry about

The Rose of Remembrance decision

  • go with Triss Merigold in search of the Rose and you will have the opportunity to romance her in the best setting possible. If you go with her and deny the romance, you will get the Resistance to magic character attribute.
  • go alone to search for the Rose and you will miss the chance at romance and at the most epic romance cutscene ever.

The Drunken Troll decision

  • kill him and receive the contract reward from Louis Merse. If you are consistent with killing trolls through the game, you will get an achievement.
  • help him and receive a key to a bandit hideout. If you are consistent with helping trolls through the game, you will get an achievement.

Helping Iorveth decision

  • give him his sword and Loredo will bring chaos in Flotsam, using the dispute as an excuse. This is temporary and no permanent damage is done. Iorveth will treat you as a friend.
  • punch him and Loredo will celebrate the victory in Flotsam. No permanent effect.

At the Crossroads decision

(MAIN CHOICE of Witcher 2!!! It changes the entire plotline by branching into two different paths)

  • side with the Scoia’tael and basically fight for the non-humans throughout the Act II and Act III
  • side with the Blue Stripes and fight for the future of Temeria and the stability of the Northen Kingdoms.

Hero or Avenger decision (Scoia’tael path only!)

  • kill Loredo and save Flotsam from being sold to Kaedwen in the epilogue
  • save the elven women and have a sex scene with one of them later, at the cost of Flotsam being sold to Kaedwen in the epilogue

CHAPTER II

Scoia’tael Path

With Flickering Heart decision

  • kill the Succubus and receive your reward from Ele’yas. No special loot is gained from killing the demoness.
  • If you want to side with the Succubus and find the truths about the killings, you have to buy the surgical tools from Felicia Cori, in order to remove the metal splinter from the corpse in the catacombs. Then you will bring it as proof to Iorveth. Afterwards you are able to kill Ele’yas and stop a former mad murderer that is infatuated with the Succubus. By doing this, you get a nice armour from her and quality time in bed.

Royal Blood decision

  • let the mob kill Stennis and get the blood for healing Saskia. The Lower Aedirn will collapse because it does not have a king. However, the Pontar Valley will grow stronger with no opposition from him. It is revealed in the epilogue that Stennis was guilty of the poisoning. It is nice to note that if you choose the Blue Stripes path, Stennis is killed by default.
  • you protect him from the mob and you will not have his blood. He will try to convince the other kings to conquer the Pontar Valley later. It is revealed in the epilogue that Stennis was guilty of the poisoning.

Blue Stripes Path

Conspiracy Theory decision

  • let Roche kill Henselt and make Kaedwen fall in chaos.
  • stop Roche from killing Henselt and he will take control over Aedirn.

CHAPTER III

Scoia’tael path

For a Higher Cause decision I

  • get captured by the guards upon arriving in Loc Muinne and get the chance to speak to Radovid and exchange some extra words with Philippa. Nothing that you say will have an important impact.
  • reach the dungeons by sewers and miss the chance to speak to Radovid and kill monsters, but you will manage to ambush Shilard (not possible to kill him).
  • No matter how you reach the dungeons, you will face the below choice.

For a Higher Cause decision II

  • save Philippa and get the chance to heal Saskia. Triss will be saved by Letho. However, Shilard reveals the list with the members of the Lodge sorceresses to the summit and this starts a witch hunt in Loc Muinne. The Conclave and Council are not refounded.
  • save Triss and miss the chance to save Saskia. At the summit, Triss accuses Síle de Tansarville of the regicides, but the Conclave and the Council are refounded.

——————————————————————————————————————————

Blue Stripes path choices
    For Temeria decision I

  • save Anais and decide the future of the heiress of Temeria. Temeria can be saved. Letho reveals the list with the members of the Lodge sorceresses at the summit and this starts a witch hunt in Loc Muinne. The Conclave and Council are not refounded.
  • save Triss and lose Anais. Roche manages to save Anais, he is declared an outlaw and her future and Temeria’s will not be bright. Temeria will be in chaos. At the summit, Triss accuses Síle de Tansarville of the regicides, but the Conclave and the Council are refounded.

For Temeria decision II (only available if you save Anais)

  • give Anais to Radovid and Temeria will become a protectorate of Redania.
  • give Anais to John Natalis and Temeria will remain independent, with her as the next queen.

——————————————————————————————————————————

EPILOGUE

The Assassin of Kings decision
  • let Letho leave and he will make an appearance in The Witcher 3.
  • kill Letho and get different journal entries. No major impact in Witcher 3.

Afterthoughts

Hope the guide was useful. Enjoy playing the game!

P.S. Also, I liked the game so much that I even made a a tribute to Geralt. Be warned that it is better to watch it after finishing the game. Spoilers ahead!
