Guardians of Orion (Phase 1) Guide

Beginners Guide for Guardians of Orion (Phase 1)

Beginners Guide

Overview

Learn all the basics of this game. Featuring tips and tricks and also a list of all guardians loadout.

Decent starting guide

Unfortunately, I don’t have much time to play this game like I used to due to study. So I won’t be able to keep this guide up to date. However, this guide still provide some basic information that can still be useful. Thank you for your understanding.

Introduction

Welcome to the Orion Universe

First things first,
Starting the game for the first time often takes a while to load. For me, it can take 3-5 minutes. After this, starting the game for the second time will be much faster.

Upon entering the game, one can choose to play online or offline.

This guide will focus on online play only.
When clicked on online play, one will be able to choose between going to Orbital Command or Agora.

Both location serves the same purpose. I recommend to choose Orbital Command since it is in line with this guide. The knowledge gained from Orbital Command can be applied to Agora later on.
A quick and dirty chapter about Agora has been added at the end of this guide.

A small note from the author.
My apologise for the low quality ingame screenshots. My potato laptop did his best 😉

Orbital Command (aka social hub)

Once the game has loaded succesfully, one will be dropped in the Orbital Command (also known as social hub).

This special place is for chatting, managing inventory, adjusting skilltree, shopping, forming parties and ultimately starting the actual game.

Inventory

Hit “i” to open inventory. See chapter Inventory for more information.

Skill Tree

Hit Esc>Character> Skill tree

Terminal

This is one of the many terminals. Get closer and aim at it. Then hit E to interact.
In the terminal one can see achievement progression, leaderboard, quest, stores to buy augments and more.

Starting a game

Here you can start a game. Get close to the table, aim on it and hit “E” to interact.

Tip! If you happen to be lost in the orbital command. Hit Enter to open the chat and type /suicide.
You will be spawned close to the area of the starting table.

Game mode Harvest / Survival

Currently as of 1.5 there are two game modes, harvest and survival.

Harvest

One has to defend this harvester

and kill all the enemies to win.
When the harvester health is down to zero. He will enter a state which we call “down”. There is a time limit for how long he can be downed before he explodes causing one to lose the game. Repair him with the regen gun (hit 3 to use regen gun).

There are 10 waves and 3 side objectives. Beating a side objective within time limit will yield bonus chest. It can contain crafting materials, consumables like XP scrolls and IONs.

There are 5 difficulties available for this mode
Easy, medium, hard, insane and redikulous with a K.
Redikulous has the highest amount of enemies while the enemies has more HP and does more damage.
Higher difficulty will drop augments with higher item levels.

Survival

This mode also requires the player to defend the harvester and killing all the enemies. However, the amount of waves is infinite. The enemies gets progressive harder and stronger the further one gets.
The augment drop rate in this mode is rather scarce. One will find primarily crafting materials.

Developrs have confirmed to redesign this mode in the future.

Ingame Harvest / Survival

Aim at other players and hold left mouse button to heal or to revive them.
Hold right mouse button to heal yourself.

Minor tips

Always take the initiative to repair the harvester, be a team player. Ask/remind players to repair harvester when needed. If one thinks other players will do the repair, guess what they are thinking aswell?

Blink is a powerful defensive manoeuvre. One will find himself using blink frequently.
It is also used to get the player to a destination quicker.

When a player level up, he will get a skil point. Hit Esc, go to character then skill tree to spend skill points. Don’t forget to hit save after assigning the skill points.

When one is stuck/bugged or whatsoever. One can hit Enter and type /suicide to respawn.

During the gameplay or in Orbital command, one can do some inventory management.
Hit “i” to open the inventory. Alternatively one can hit Esc then go to Character then Inventory.

Here one uses the left mouse button to drag and drop items.
An action will be performed with the right mouse button.

There are 4 toggles that can be selected in (A)
Normal, Breakdown, Use and Drop

Normal

Select this option to equip augments with right mouse button. Equiped augments will be moved to the right side near the guardian.
Any items in your inventory without a number on it are augments i.e. (D), with an exception of the first three items in (B).

Breakdown

This option allows one to breakdown augments for crafting materials with right mouse button.
Crafting materials are items with numbers on it like (C)

Use

Select this option to use items from (B) with right mouse button.
Explaining the items from left to right

  • Legendary (purple) Lockbox highest rarity
    Gives a random legendary augment

Two other consumables are not displayed here. They are the Gem Pouch and Material Pack. Those can be bought from the ION store. They give random crafting materials when used.

Drop

This option allows one to drop any items. These will appear in the game and other players can pick it up. RIght click on the item one wants to drop.

Open stats at (E)

A panel with character info is displayed on the right.
Hover the mouse over the stats to reveal additional info. In the picture my mouse hovered over the stat piercing damage reduction. The additional info are displayed above at (A) as Bite and claw damage.
Scroll your mouse button up or down to navigate through all stats

Currency

There are two types of currency in this game.

ION is the common currency. They are dropped when an enemy is killed.
Make sure to pick them up asap. They will dissapear after a while.

Credits is the premium currency. They can be obtained through several ways.

  • Buy with real money
  • Doing achievements (over 70k Credits are to be gained)
  • Doing daily/weekly quest
  • Converting IONs to Credits through the Trek Store (see picture above)

With the last three option, a player can unlock almost everything just by playing the game.
Only the elite skins are not unlockable without paying.

Recommended reading materials

I can’t tell how important it is for new players to read the following crafting guide. It will prevent new players from making beginners mistake.

This is a complete list of all legendary augments with its unique passives. One will find himself coming back to it frequently.

Agora (aka social hub 2) V1.5.5.1

Everything discussed in the Orbital Command can be applied to Agora.

There are just a few minor difference.
Agora is a huge map and players can get lost pretty quickly.
Hit enter and type /suicide should bring the player near the location where the terminals are situated.

The starting table in Agora looks pretty much the same as in Orbital Command

The terminals in Agora to do the shopping, tracking achievements progress etc looks like a bowl with fire.
